RISE OF THE KAIJU

Disclaimer: Most of the monsters depicted in this fanfiction are owned by Toho, Daisei, Sony/Tristar, Legendary/Warner Bro’s, TMS, and Tokyo TV.

This fanfiction is unrelated to my Gojiverse, This fanfiction will neither feature any marvel characters nor canonize all godzilla movies; it's its own continuity. I am to make this fanfiction more in-line to a proper Godzilla/Gamera storyline that draws inspiration from all eras (Showa, Heisei, Millenium, TriStar, MonsterVerse, and Reiwa)

Creative feedback is appreciative.

Prologue

251 million years ago…

A blinding flash of light raced across the mid-day skies before a terrible thunderous roar echoed across the earth. The once clear skies were now smothered in dense clouds of ash. From the Siberian traps came a bright light shooting up into the dark skies, the light exploded into a fireball; radiating like a star before taking form. Massive blinding illuminating golden wings unfurl from its metallic cocoon as the creature stretches out its three biomechanical serpentine necks to their fullest extent.

From the coasts, sharp dorsal spines burst from the watery depths. BwuamBwuamBwuam...blue atomic fire bursts from the water directly at Primal Ghidorah. The Ghidorah recoiled for a moment before firing its gravity beams towards the coastline, the water exploded wherever the beams touched; revealing the kaiju hiding beneaths. A massive triop-like beast rose from the water, it was a Deiakhan, a radioactive deep sea arthropod that serves as earth’s balancer since the late cambrian period. Its tail spines begin to glow blue, Deiakhan flares open its mandibles as it releases its atomic beam into Primal Ghidorah. Ghidorah collectively flashes its teeth before shielding itself with its wings, the atomic energy like a great wave washes over Ghidorah’s golden form. The golden wings unfurl, ghidorah collectively flickers its tongues at its adversary. Ghidorah’s left head fires a gravity beam behind Deiakhan, Ghidorah's right head fires a gravity beam in front of Deiakhan; the guardian kaiju is tossed around like a ragdoll. Then Ghidorah’s middle head roars before commanding all to fire directly at Deiakhan’s soft belly.

Deiakhan squealed in pain as its body was being lifted out of the water by the beams, Ghidorah levitates Deiakhan closer to its trio of hungry mouths. It stretches out its weak vestigial arms to hold the triop-like kaiju onto its smooth scaly underbelly while its jaws clamp down on to Deiakhan’s soft spots. Atomic energy flows into Primal Ghidorah jaws and skin like a sponge. Deiakhan’s body makes one last spasm before recoiling into death. Primal Ghidorah took to the skies as it rained down from the sky a volley of cluster gravity beams onto the planet surface, the earth rumbled by the touch of Ghidorah’s radiant light. The following centuries and millennia the earth burned under Ghidorah’s reign; The forests were dying while many beasts lie suffocating on the surface. Every volcano across the earth has since erupted, leading to what will be called The Great Dying. The oceans were polluted with large quantities of unfrozen methane, causing the waters to become acidic which kills many marine lifeforms. Primal Ghidorah cackled at the destruction it had wrought.

Tiny moth-like insects clinging on to the surviving trees caught in the inferno began to radiate with a blue-green light, their collective energy summoned the avatar of mother earth herself; Gigamoth. Gigamoth flared her wings, she cried out to Primal Ghidorah in defiance, Ghidorah turned its three collective heads towards Gigamoth. Ghidorah’s middle head sneared, the right head growled, the left head turned away from its siblings towards another threat; it was the beetle-like Megalon, the spider-like cephalopod Scylla, the spider Kumonga, the lobster-like shrimp Ebirah, the crab-like shrimp Ganimes, and a swarm of the dragonfly-like Meganulons come to Gigamoth’s aide. The meganulons kamikaze into Ghidorah, the three headed space dragon disintegrates most of the swarm before Kumong spits its web around the left and center head, sticking them together. Megalon charges in prematurally as Ghidorah’s right head is still free, Ghidorah open’s its jaws, a flash of light radiates from within its jaws before blasting the beetle kajiu apart with its gravity beam. The right head turns its attention to free its siblings, Gigamoth seizes her chance, she digs her bladed forearms into the right head’s neck  decapitating it. Gigamoth makes a speedy getaway before turning back around to finish off its sibling heads; the middle head fires its gravity beam into its left head, tearing away kumonga’s webbing as well as obliterating lefty’s head. Ghidorah fires its gravity beam into Kumonga, obliterating the spider kaiju. Gigamoth barrels towards Ghidorah, to strike at its last remaining head. Ghidorah ignoring the other arthropod kaiju focuses on Gigamoth, its sibling’s headless necks began regenerating their heads. Gigamoth flares her antenna, a beam of energy fires out of them, the regenerating ghidorah sibling heads bursts into goo. Ebirah clamps its pinchers around Ghidorah's left leg while Scylla wraps her tentacle mouth around the right leg. Gigamoth prepares to slice off the middle head, she cries in anticipation. Primal Ghidorah fires its gravity beam into Gigamoth, the beam sent her flying backwards, in due haste Ghidorah flapped its wings hard to gain lift off despite the efforts of scylla and ebirah, Gigamoth fired her energy beam into Primal Ghidorah as it took to the skies. Scylla and Ebirah release themself from Ghidorah’s leg before falling back into the water.

Primal Ghidorah flees back into the dark cold void of space. Gigamoth landed on Deiakhan’s carcass, she nudged the fallen kaiju to awake. Deiakhan remained motionless, the volcanic fires burned the sky, rivers of molten magma flow to claim Deiakhan’s remains. Gigamoth quickly returns to the skies, she cries as she releases her divine energy over the planet earth. For one million years, Gigamoth spent her energy repairing the damage Primal Ghidorah has brought to the blue planet. A new dawn sets up on the Earth, the Permian period as well as the paleozoic era has now ended, the dawn of the Triassic and the beginning of the Mesozoic has begun. Gigamoth softly lands on a mountain overlooking a great valley. Tiny diictodon leave their burrows as vegetation returns to the surface. Gigamoth will spend the remainder of the Triassic recovering from her wounds, for the time for Ghidorah’s return will come again and she doesn’t know if she would be strong enough to stop them.

CHAPTER 3: ASCENSION

60 Million Years Ago, Early Paleogene, Paleocene epoch

A million years later and the world has since recovered from the meteor, unfortunately the mighty non-avian dinosaurs and their pterosaur cousins who ruled this earth and soared the skies for 140 million years have gone extinct, fortunately some of the non-avian dinosaurs retreated underground among them were the kaiju species, Eogojirasaurus the Primitive Godzilla and the abelisaurid Gorosaurus. Non dinosaurian archosaurs kaiju species also survived the K-Pg extinction such as the pseudosuchian Anguirus and the pterodactyloid Rodan. The hollow earth was teeming with life both new and old, a safe haven for creatures that would otherwise face extinction in the world above. Several species of large turtles quickly take over remote ecosystems, foreshadowing to something greater.

40 Million Years Ago, Mid Paleogene, Eocene epoch

As mammals conquered the surface world, the reign of the reptiles continued to dominate the hollow world. The primitive Godzilla have been facing increasing competition with primitive skullcrawlers, parasitic Muto, last surviving therapsid Gabara, and kaiju snapping turtles, this drove many primitive godzilla species to flee to the hollow world’s oceans.

25 Million Years Ago, Late Paleogene, Oligocene epoch

The primitive godzillas have readapted to an aquatic lifestyle, revolving gills as they make brief trips to the surface world as competition within the hollow earth’s oceans intensifies with the arrival of primitive snake-like Mandra, land-squid Gezora and the reawakening of ganimes and ebirah. Several million years later earthquakes and volcanic activity shook as the roof of the hollow earth collapsed in sparse regions around the globe. The introduction of cenozoic mammals now flood into the hollow earth.

15 Million Years Ago, Early Neogene, Miocene epoch

The “gateways” to the hollow earth have since sealed up on the surface world, except on one remote island somewhere in the indian ocean, one near the Sea of Japan and one in the middle of the atlantic. A pack of former seafaring apes now resides solely on this island, the increased activity between the hollow earth and the surface will surely impact the evolution of the primitive Kongs. The Godzillas have since fully escaped from the hollow earth through two of these “gateways”.

4 Million Years Ago, Late Neogene, Pliocene epoch

Early protohumans arise from ground dwelling apes in Africa while the godzillas further diverged into two distinct species. In the atlantic, the atlantic godzilla retain its ancestral theropod body frame in favor of maneuverability on land while in the pacific, the pacific godzilla evolved more upright and bulky compared to its atlantic cousin. On Skull Island, the Kongs have since grown in size to limit the number of kaiju escaping the hollow earth.

30,000 Years Ago, Mid Quaternary, Pleistocene

The surface has changed, much of the northern hemisphere has been blanketed by glacial ice sheets in a time that is called an ice age. Early homo sapiens have since spread from africa to europe and asia. In Japan, the hunter-gathering Jomon people stalk the island’s frozen forests for prey. After failing to catch a deer, the lead hunter shouts in frustration. The mountains shook to life. Snow and earth rolls off the mountain’s back taking much of the forest with it. The lead hunter stared in disbelief and awe as he realized that the mountain was a titanic creature. Fat reptilian head with pronounced front teeth jud out from its premaxilla like that of a dilophosaurus, sporting tiny external ear-shaped crests made of bone on the side of its cranium, a row of razor shaped scales running down its neck to protect and hide its gills, three rows of maple-leaf shaped dorsal spines roll down its back, a pronounced sternum juds out of his chest, an extensive long tail, large powerful arms ending with grasping claws and two powerful thick legs. GODZILLA, specifically a pacific godzilla has awakened from its long slumber. Its yellow circular eyes glare down at the tiny human as a curious child would an insect.  It tilts its head to the sky bellowing “GYOOOOAAAAANNNNNNNNNN!!!!!” to announce its presence. The ground shook again another mountain sturs awake, the hunters turn their gazes to yet another beast awakening from its slumber but this time it was a giant snapping turtle, “Aaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh” Gamera screams as its turtle shell began to glow blue, Godzilla in turn began powering up its dorsal spikes. Gamera propels itself into Godzilla, not allowing the theropod kaiju to discharge its atomic breath. Godzilla topples over the mountain side. Gamera props its feet out to slow its momentum, it sticks its head out scanning the mountain slopes of Godzilla. There it was, Godzilla was struggling to climb back on its feet, this was Gamera’s chance. Gamera inhales swiftly, his undershell glows bright orange and red. Godzilla manages to exhale his atomic breath back to Gamera, Gamera counters with his own divine fire breath. The blast sends both kaiju hurling across the frozen japanese landscape, while the humans were unfortunately caught in their blast. While the lives of the hunting party were lost, the Jomon tribes would worship these two titanic beasts as gods for generations to come.

Throughout human history, the kaiju have shaped human belief being mis remembered as mythical monsters rather than factual creatures. In the last couple of thousand years, humans once worshipped the kaiju, the result saw the rise of kaiju-based civilizations: Atlantis in the Atlantic and Mu in the Pacific. These civilizations would meet their end sometime before the closure of the bronze age for reasons unknown and thus would pass into myth.

Basically I use MonsterVerse Godzilla specifically the 2019 variant as a base. Added a dilophosaurus-like snout, gave it Shin Godzilla's chest, and Millennium godzilla's neck. thinking about giving my Godzilla Heisei's double rows of teeth.

CHAPTER 4: DISCOVERY

20th century, Late Quaternary, Holocene epoch

Indian Ocean, Skull Island
1933 AD

The moon hung in the midnight sky, plump and beautiful. Psychovulture flock screech in glee as they feed on a retrosaurus carcass. A tree is thrown at the tiny flying reptiles causing them to scatter from the dead sauropod. King Rongu, a member of the kaiju ape race known as Kongs stands approaches the dead retrosaurus. He grabs his tree before kneeling down at the Retrosaurus, Rongu places his head over its eyes to close them shut as he bids his friend farewell. Guttural hissing startles the great ape king, Rongu quickly finds himself confronted by a Vastatosaurus; a tyrannosaur-like theropod native to the skull island gateway. Rongu gripped his tree before sliding his hand across its trunk stripping it of its branches. The Vastatosaurus, young and inexperienced lunges towards Rongu, the ape king swings his tree-club at the tyrannosauroid; sending the kaiju rolling across the jungle floor.

Then two older Vastatosaurus burst from the treeline to double team Rongu, they were using the younger one as a decoy. Rongu roars out in pain as the two tyrannosauroids bite into his left shoulder and rift shoulder. Rongu struggles with the two beasts but to no avail, a loud snap and surge of pain coursed through Rongu, his left and right arms both go limp and numb. Rongu looks over to his son, Kong, who was hiding in the underbrush. His father refusing to give up found the strength to defy the two vastatosaurus as he lunged towards the jungle floor, tearing out most of their teeth but at the cost of widening his own wounds.

Although free, he turns back towards the tyrannosauroids. Rongu grunts as the vastatosaurus teeth are quickly replaced. Rongu looks over at his young son Kong, before looking back at the two hungry theropods. Rongu growls at Kong while gesturing his head towards the mountains. Kong understood as he took off running in that direction, the two vastatosaurus quickly lost interest in Rongu as they were after Kong the entire time. Rongu tackled one of the vastatosaurus to the ground, he laid his body weight on top of the tyrannosauroid, hoping to delay their pursuit of his child. The other vastatosaurus clamped their jaws around Rongu’s nape, dragging him off the vastosaurus’s mate. Rongu roared in anger, CRUNCH! Rongu’s eyes widen as his roar is cut short, his body goes limp as the vastatosaurus releases his jaws from the great ape king’s neck. The male Vastatosaurus roars triumphantly, the three vastatosaurus now dine on Kong’s father.

Kong stops to hear his father’s last roar, the young kong whimpers as he is forced to retreat back home. Now deep in the jungles of Skull island’s interior, Kong was being pursued by many of the island’s most deadly predators; among them were the Mother Long Legs, Psychovultures, juvenile Skull Crawlers and Venatosaurus. The Venatosaurus were large dromaeosaur-like abelisaurid theropods, they were closely related to the much larger gorosaurus which also stalks the island’s jungles. The Venatosaurus corner Kong at the edge of a ravine, the head Venatosaurus barks at two of its packmates to circle around Kong. Then up from the ravine came the larval Mothra, her cries frighten away the Venatosaurus as she encircles herself around Kong.

Pacific Ocean, Bikini atoll.
1953 AD.

It was a nice sunny day on the bikini atoll, seagulls chirping, and waves clattering. Then came a blinding light followed by a loud boom, the trees were engulfed in a fiery blaze as the island was consumed by a mushroom cloud. The american government were conducting nuclear tests on the remote island preparing for the day if russia would deploy their own nukes on american soil, the united states could retaliate. Once the tests were over and the planes returned to base, a sole survivor of the atoll raised its head out of the water to cry out in pain. “GYOOOAAAAAANNNNNNNN”

1954 AD. Odo island, Japan.

Kenji was just strolling on the beach collecting seashells and starfish. A shine caught his eyes from the horizon. He approached the shiny thing, only to stumble across the fishing trawler, The Lucky Dragon 7. Kenji froze in fear as he saw a giant reptilian leg standing behind the remains of the ship, he slowly examined the creature from the feet up. Standing at 167 feet tall, covered in radiation burn scars. Godzilla glared at the tiny human before roaring, “GYOOOAAAAAANNNNNN!!!!” The massive kaiju followed the young boy, due to its large size it was more than capable of catching up with the child. Planes soar in the distance catching the attention of the hulking creature, Godzilla stops its pursuit before retreating back into the ocean. The boy ran home to his mother, “Mom, mom! There is a big monster on the beach, come quick!” The boy and his mother doubled back to the beach where the beast left its footprints. “We must warn the village elder, come quickly” The mother and her son head to the village chief, they explained what they saw on the beach, the beast and its footprints. The village elder takes three abled body men down to the same beach to confirm the mother and her child’s story.

“It is as I feared” the elder spoke to the three men. “What is it Isshin-sensei” the old man turned to his three young protege, “Gojira, has awakened”
Later that night, a storm rolled in, “GYOOOOAAAAANNNN!” and the village of Odo Island was no more. A plane flies over the ruins of the village, large footprints dot the island. Rescue boats are soon dispatched to Odo Island to search for survivors. Boots penetrate the sands of Odo before running up the hill slopes to the village. There stood paleontologist Kyohei Yamane and his american colleague Steve Martin. The two paleontologists study the footprint putting both of their extensive knowledge of the fossil records to the test as the rescue teams go searching for survivors. “Three functional toes, semi-digitigrade, aquatic lifestyle. My hypothesis, a highly derived sauropod” Dr. Martin observed. “I disagree, Martin-san. Three toes indicates that the creature is of theropod ancestry” Dr. Yamane corrected.

“We found survivors!” called out the rescue team. The mother, her child and several others manage to hide in a shinto shrine. Dr. Yamane and Dr. Martin walked over to the survivors. “Did you see anything?” Dr. Yamane asked the survivors. “Big monster, looked like a crocodile if a crocodile could walk on its hind legs” the boy told the paleontologist. “Nay child, it was gojira!” the village elder interrupted. “Excuse me but what is a Gojira?” Dr. Martin asked. The village elder ignored the american man, “Please tell us, old man” Dr. Yamane asked politely. “Not in front of the foreigner” the old man whispers. “Then somewhere private” Dr. Yamane took the village elder out of earshot from his american colleague. Dr. Martin saw the village elder talking to his japanese colleague about something, Japan has always been distrustful of foreigners long before the recent war in the pacific. World War II ended in the pacific theater with America forcing Japan’s surrender by dropping two atomic bombs on the cities of Nagasaki and Hiroshima. However shortly after the war america rebuilt japan and has since been trying to heal relations between the two countries but with the recent nuclear tests on the bikini atoll may have reopened fresh wounds between their two countries. Dr. Yamane walks back to his colleague, “The old man declares that Gojira was responsible for this travesty”

“Gojira? What is that?” Dr. Martin asked.

“Gojira, translates to God Incarnate. It’s a monster god that the Odo-people believe, he said the fish harvests brought no returns and the recent ban on certain religious rituals, he fears that gojira has grown angry”

“So what is your professional opinion, Dr. Yamane?” asked Dr. Martin

“We must find the creature and study it” Dr. Yamane replied, “Dr. Yamane and Dr. Martin, I think you should take a look at this!” said one of the rescue team personnel. “It’s a trilobite” Dr. Martin stated. “Impossible, trilobites went extinct in the paleozoic...yet here it is” Dr. Yamane stared at the specimen in disbelief. “Doctors! Look” one of the rescue team members point over at the adjacent hill. A large head peaked over the horizon, “GYOOOOAAAAANNNNNN!!!!!” Godzilla roars before lowering its head out of eyesight. “The cattle! It's eating the cattle!” screams one of the villagers.

The rescue team evacuates the remaining villagers of Odo Island, bringing them to Tokyo for further questioning. While Yamane and Martin discuss the nature of Godzilla. “You were right, Yamane. It was a theropod dinosaur” Dr. Martin admitted.

“It must be one of the large ones, the american tyrannosaurus perhaps?” Dr. Yamane hypothesized.

“I don’t think so, the snout and head is all wrong. Did you catch a glimpse of its back, it has dorsal plates like a stegosaurus?” Dr. Martin shot down the thought before making his observation.

“We may have discovered a new species of dinosaur not found in the fossil records, we must study it further to see if our hypothesis is correct” Dr. Yamane added.

“If this Godzilla is indeed a dinosaur, maybe there are more of them out there” Dr. Martin concluded.
