MemberNoobApr-09-2013 12:33 AMI thought of something interesting. What would happen in real life, today in the 21st century, if giant creatures from another planet really actually somehow made it to Earth and attacked our world? Most of all if they could exist than what would they exactly be like or look like? Would they really be able to target and destroy our major cities? And if so than what would the militaries of the world responses would be? Would they immediately try to bring down these creatures or try to study them?
What I'm basically is all the events and things that happen in Pacific Rim really possible today in reality, and if so than what would happen as a result of it? Please leave your comments below, I really want to hear what people think about this.

MemberNoobApr-18-2013 10:19 PMThe monsters would die horrible, horrible deaths. We're deploying rail guns within the next 4 years on Navy ships that accelerate a piece of metal to a fraction the speed of light, generating so much kinetic energy on impact that they will make missiles look like firecrackers.
Also on the kinetic energy side of things, one of these monsters would be easily brought down by a Rods from God attack; a giant canister of 6 foot long tungsten rods that are released via satellite from orbit. Originally designed to saturate an area and counter the massive Soviet armored forces, this weapon system would literally make mincemeat out of a giant monster.
Then ofcourse there's the various biological and chemical agents. We have poisons so deadly that repeated direct hits into a monster's respiratory system would quickly bring the beast down. Alternatively, we could simply detonate a fuel-air explosive directly near the monster's breathing apparatus and suck all the air out of it's lungs, then instantly replace it with superheated oxygen hot enough to melt steel.
Giant monsters just simply wouldn't stand a chance against our militaries, even without giant robots.

MemberNoobApr-18-2013 10:29 PMActually giant robots make the least sense. A swarm of nanomachines could be released and enter the monster's body through any orifice. Once inside the machines could literally disassemble the monster from inside.
Buuuuuut that wouldn't be nearly as exciting.

MemberNoobApr-20-2013 9:40 AMDepends on the monsters involved I guess. The ones from Pac Rim would die quickly though.

MemberNoobApr-29-2013 8:52 PMYeah. I bet even I could beat up the Kaiju in this movie. At least I have green atomic breath.

MemberNoobAug-04-2013 12:27 PMI don't think we have any of the orbital kinetic weapons available that you speak of. But I suppose it could be created launched and prepped fairly quickly in such an emergency.
You hit the nail on the head with rail cannons..
Now that we have seen the movie piercing weapons seem very affective.
I could see one rail cannon shot (from 300 miles away mind you) taking down otachi for sure, possibly something as thick an armord as leatherback even.
We would even be able to fire them at decent depths of water to get at it before it hits a city I believe. As I understand it the plasma created by such awesome forces that the rod is creating actually vaporizes water before it is able to create a slowing force.
Perhaps a batter of 200 submersible rail cannons surrounding the breach?
However, eventually it wouldn't matter. WE WOULD DIE
There is no way we could take them down fast enough if the rift hit full capacity. They would be sending a new kaiju every second eventually.
We couldn't stop an army....

MemberNoobAug-23-2013 7:07 PMI personally would NOT mind having this film come true!

MemberNoobAug-24-2013 12:12 AMWell in the movie the excuse for using giant robots was that conventional weapons just weren't cutting it. That and nuclear fallout plus kaiju blue pollution. Whatever the case, I don't mind... because giant robots.
