Happy Halloween everyone! I thought for today we could list off some of our favorite obscure monster films. I think this will be great way to learn of some new films to watch for the holiday. Matango (1963) Fungi have always fascinated me, and I'm surprised there have not been more films with killer mushroom people. Yog: The Monster from Space (1970) I have mentioned this film before, but I felt like it needed more attention. The monsters in this are cheesy sure, but cool nonetheless. The Deadly Spawn (1983) I't a nice tribute to the blob and other 50's horror movies. However it still manages to be quite unique and loads of fun! From Beyond (1986) Based off the H.P. Lovecraft story of the same name. This film has some great effects and squishy, slimy monsters! The funny part is the whole short story was told in the begging credits, so really this movie is more like a sequel/remake to the source material. Necronomicon (1993) Another great Lovecraftian film with lots of equally awesome monsters and effects!

OOH this is right up my alley.... i am well known for wasting way too much time watching B and lower grade movies. well some of the better known ones i love are the "critters" movies. i enjoy the first 2 even more knowing the redhead kid (scott grimes) is the guy that does steve smiths voice on family guy. "pumpkinhead" is also a pretty iconic movie but it is one of my favorites. i LOVE the movies you named, especially "from beyond", i am a huge jeff combs fan( and i would very much like to kiss him on his mouth.) its hard to say what people consider a monster in a movie or what movies are technically monster movies.... like "castle freak", the freak was human but still a monster in some ways. i really love the old full moon features, thats some great stuff right there. also a troma fan. *puts thinking cap on* lesser known id say "deep star six" " curse 2: the bite" "metamorphsis: the alien factor" (deadly spawn sequel) "the gorgon" "monster in the closet" better known ones: "the howling" movies " ghoolies" "CHUD" "house" (does that count? ghost monsters? lol) "its alive" (how cool are monster babies!?) the "leprechaun" movies "creepshow 1-2" (the second one scared the crap out of me as a kid) thats all i had off the top of my head, ive been watching these movies since i was an under supervised kid so im sure ive forgotten to mention a TON. oh and it isnt a "monster" movie, its an alien movie but it it is so underrated i always have to suggest to people to watch any time i can "THE HIDDEN". it is SO good but most people have never heard of it. and kyle maclachlan is quite cute so its worth watching just for that... (i would also like very much to kiss him on his mouth as well) but of course, i cant end this without saying my OBVIOUS favorite, the basket case movies. the first is by far my favorite, but i do enjoy the sequels as well. these movies are on my regular rotation and i watch them quite a bit especially when im doing any art stuff and i need something on in the background. i never get sick of them.

Thanks Bella! Some of these movies I have never even heard of before! I didn't mention Critters because I figured they were already too well known. I actually just watched PumpkinHead the other day and really enjoyed it. Deep-star 6 was okay, but I much prefer the Leviathan instead. I did watch Metamorphosis, however I have to say I didn't much enjoy it. Monster in the Closet was very funny indeed. I felt like C.H.U.D. needed to show off the monsters more, because most of the story was dull. As for Basket Case I really need to watch it, it does seem to be pretty good. The Gorgon and the Howling sound interesting I will have to check those out as well. Again thanks for the recommendations!

Nice NCC I love all of those! Except I have never heard of Grizzly. Is it about some regular grizzly, or some sort of bear mutant?

The original Blob and Fly are both great, this stuff was on television when I was 5 or 6 years old and both managed to scare me to death! The Blob because it seemed so alive and was clearly NOT a guy in a rubber suit and The Fly for the press and spider scenes ( My grandfather was a salesman of giant machine parts and liked to scare me with tales of industrial accidents. The spider scene is just horrific on every level ). Both of these are not so obscure though. My offering is only slightly less so: The Green Slime! This 1969 space horror film features American and Italian actors and a Japanese director. I loved it for its over saturated color and squashed aspect ratio, just like the Godzilla movies. The story is similar to Alien, in fact. Super groovy theme song, too.

The Thing will always be my favorite monster movie (besides Alien). Has anyone read the short story that the movie is based on? The movie is surprisingly accurate to the story. It's called Who Goes There? by John Campbell.

I have to say I have never heard of Prophecy, but that clip you posted was hilarious! I think I am going to watch that soon. Oh and I too forgot to mention another favorite of mine. It's called Troll Hunter(2010). That movie is the best!

Well I just watched the movie Warlords of Atlantis (1978). It was awesome! The acting is fairly good, and there are lots of monsters in this as well. I highly recommend this film to anyone who likes old adventure movies. It reminded me of a combination of King Kong and 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. This film is so much fun!

@NCC 1701 AS much as I have enjoyed monster movies through the years I really enjoyed your visuals,, Nice movie posters. I recall the movies and there was a certain style about how they were filmed, I always liked the crowd reactions to seeing the monsters screeming tyhowing their hands in the air as that would help in anyway.

The Creature from The Black Lagoon is awesome! I hope that someday someone makes a good remake of it. Typically I don't like remakes, but some are terrific, like The Thing, and The Fly.
