I wouldnt say any goji films are worse purely for the reason i wouldnt consider 98' a goji film.

As far as Godzilla movies go, I would say that All Monsters Attack, City on the Edge of Battle, and The Planet Eater are the worst (in my opinion).

All Monsters Attack has a really irritating main character (Ichiro is pretty much the definition of an annoying kid character) and the movie comes off as kind of lazy due to the fact that 95% of the monster scenes are made up of stock footage from previous (and in some cases, better) Godzilla films, the most notable thing in it was the fight with Gabara, but even then it's one of the weaker monster battles in the series.

City on the Edge of Battle had one of the worst cases of false advertisement, the film was heavily marketed as a Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla movie, which never happened. Instead, the movie ended up having a really ridiculous plot point of Mechgodzilla turning itself into a city (because that makes sense). As dumb as the whole "Mechagodzilla City" idea was though, they could've done something unique and creative with it, but they didn't. Most of the final battle pretty much being a rehash of the one from Planet of the Monsters and for the most part the movie was just really boring in my opinion.

The Planet Eater managed to do something I didn't think was possible, it made a fight between Godzilla and King Ghidorah boring, if you could even call it a fight (I've never seen a monster fight try that hard to be boring). Most of the film's plot comes off as borderline pretentious, with it trying to act as if it's the most profound thing ever, while also saying some insanely stupid things (there's seriously a moment where they try to get existential about soup), the characters were either bland or annoying and it also rehashed plot points from City on the Edge of Battle (the "aliens turn out to be evil and betray the humans" plot could have been mildly shocking if they hadn't already used it in the previous movie). Honestly, this was one of the only times that I was genuinely annoyed after watching a Godzilla movie...

Godzilla vs. SpaceGodzilla is the only movie I think the 98 flick has a leg up on.

Others that flirt with the same kind of resilience against critical thinking include Godzilla vs. Megalon, Godzilla x Megaguirus, Godzilla Final Wars, Godzilla: King of the Monsters and Godzilla vs. Kong--But despite the poor quality of those titles, I can't say they're necessarily void of the irreverence and lackluster, creative output of Emmerich's movie.

I think the 1998 film has some interesting concepts. The idea of a giant monster using a city to nest and the threat that its offspring could proliferate out of control to the point where they could replace humanity as the dominant species is a pretty cool concept, it just didn't really fit Godzilla.

SasquaDash,
It fits Alien more. Not that it couldn't be transplanted into the Godzilla series. Godzilla '14 sorta brushed on it a bit.

Narratively though, the 1998 movie had a good thing going for the first act as it replayed a lot of the same, paranoid beats as the 1954 film--fishing boats being lost and the terrifying mystery of what's attacking seaworthy vessels. The movie just falls apart once the setting shifts to New York, then the 1990s blockbuster cliches take over.

The monster nesting idea definitely worked better with the MUTOs.

I feel like 98 had a pretty strong opening, the scenes where Zilla attacks the fishing boats and his arrival in New York are actually pretty well done, the movie starts to fall apart when he's fully revealed and you realize that it's not really Godzilla.

Honestly, it's still hilarious that Zilla got destroyed by Millennium Goji in 30 seconds.

Yeah, The Planet Eater was pretty much the only Godzilla movie that genuinely mad while watching it (Singular Point came close though), which considering that there's currently 36 Godzilla films (not counting the TV series) and I enjoy most of them, that says a lot.

Personally I felt that Singular Point's constant focus on physics got really confusing and hard to follow after a while. Inserting real life science into a Kaiju story can be interesting, but I feel like the series put too much emphasis on it. As someone who has a lot of trouble with subjects like math and physics, it got to the point where it took me out of the story and it ended up feeling like I was watching an overly long college physics lecture, rather than an entertaining Kaiju show. There's also a couple of inconsistencies with the story and characters, as well as moments where it felt like the show kept contradicting itself and not explaining certain things that it should've, which kind of bugged me.

As someone who can't stand math and most forms of science, I actually found the kaiju slant on it all to be a fascinating way to draw me into it. Like a big puzzle to figure out.

I enjoy it when genres look for new ways to be watched. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, but Singular Point was a slam dunk.

There were certain moments where the writing for some of the characters was somewhat inconsistent. At the beginning of the series Mei is established as someone who researches "impossible creatures" and Yun is established as someone who works with technology, however later Yun is the one who goes after the monsters, while Mei spends most of the time dealing with technology (even though, logically, it should be the other way around), there's even a moment where Mei comes face to face with one of the dead Rodans and doesn't really seem all that interested, even though it proves her research right. Another example is that they establish that Pelops II's personality is unique and based around Mei's computer, however when they upload Pelops II to other devices, its personality stays exactly the same and when that fact is actually brought up by Mei, it's completely brushed aside in an "eh who cares" kind of way. There's also moments where characters will be introduced and then dropped completely, which not only gets confusing, but ends up making some of them feel pointless.

The series keeps going back and forth on explanations for the monsters, they start off referring to the Rodans as a surviving species of pterosaur, however they then proceed to change the explanations for them and the other monsters, referring to them as mutations that resulted from humanity’s effect on nature, deep sea creatures, extraterrestrial creatures, and interdimensional creatures. There’s even moments where they contradict themselves in the same scene, there’s a moment where some of the characters are talking about the monsters, stating that they come from the ocean, but then immediately start mentioning that they’re aliens from another world. It got to the point where I actually stated out loud “Pick an origin and stick with it”, before they eventually stuck with the idea of them being from another dimension. I get them trying to uncover the mystery behind these creatures, however they didn’t need to take that long to explain their origins. They spent so much time trying to over complicate the science that it almost felt like they were trying to pad out the runtime with it. It pretty much took the series 5 hours for them to introduce an idea that Pacific Rim was able to do in 10 minutes. There were also moments where they mention that the red mist comes from the monsters but others where they mention that the monsters come from the red mist. I’m not sure if that was an error in the script or a mistranslation, but it came off as a really big contradiction.

Also, despite the series having a huge emphasis at explaining things, there’s moments that they don’t explain things that they should. One example is the scene where they kill the Megalon/Kumonga bugs. Suddenly the bugs’ blood comes to life, becoming Hedorah-like creatures that “rebuild” the bugs, bringing them back to life. A similar thing happens when Godzilla Terrestris’ blood comes to life and protects it from being hit by missiles. Aside from some fan theories, these moments are never explained. Another example is when the giant shadowy Rodan appears and tries to attack Godzilla, only for Godzilla to immediately blast it out of the air. It's never explained where it came from or what relation it has with the other Rodans and after it appears it’s never mentioned again, making it’s entire appearance kind of pointless despite the fact that they make a big deal about it when it first shows up. I remember thinking “what the hell just happened?” and waiting for an explanation for these moments, but it never came.

These were only a couple of the inconsistencies that I could immediately think of.

Well to counter your points of Mei and Yun I wanted to bring up their characterization. In the first episode we do see what roles they will play, Yun is much the technological, but he gets very invloved in going out and paranormal investigations, Heck he even tries to climb over a fence. Mei is a lot more reserved as a character and tends to less active. Also thats ignoring what each provides in context. The reason Yun goes out against monsters is because the Tech leads him there, he uses to tech to fight monsters and improves it as he goes along. And though Mei studies fake animals, but her theories are more focused and zeroing in on archetype. She does not directly ever interact with the OD or super calculator, just figures out how each works, which is her study. She just needs the data. This is why they work together

As for the Rodan Labelings. Idk. I tried rewatching it in english, hated the voice acting and went back to japanese, So idk what was lost in translation. (Assuming you watched in english, if not, then could you be a little more specific)

And Pero 2, its humor, if it lands it or if it doesnt.

Honestly a lot of complaints about the show just make me think its just not really something that you would enjoy overall. The story telling is just not something that you enjoy. Im fine with it because I just enjoy it. While we could argue about whether when reiwa leave something unexplained to come back to later, or when marvel does it literally all the time, which is cool and which is just blatantly stupid and cashgrabby. It would just be a battle of semantics.

I wish the main characters had more traditional japanese sounding names because Mei and Yun don't sound like typical japanese names, they sound kind of korean and chinese

Yun and Mei both originate from chinese, mei allegedly meaning beautiful, and yun allegedly meaning "One born in clouds"

I've started noticing more social ideas in SP. Like Satomi being very tatooed, from what I know, some people get really weird about tatoos. But like nobody reacted to that so i think its normal. Idk if im reading into it too much. I just had a weird thought that maybe the names were supoosed to be representation? Idk anymore.

Im not even gonna delete this?
