Dune Movies after Part Two

The long awaited Dune 2021 is out. Part one that is. The movie only covers about half of the original book, rather than trying to condense it.

Now a Dune part two has been greenlit by Warner brothers and we’ll at least be able to see the full first book in Frank Herbert’s series, (if you didn’t watch the lynch film or any of the miniseries) but I was thinking, what later books would be good for adaptation?

Denis Villeneuve has already expressed interest in adapting the sequel book Dune messiah and I think that’s a great idea, the books I’d love to see fully adapted are Children of Dune, God Emporer of Dune, and Heretics of Dune. I think they’d really work well despite their more “crazy” stories (Leto II I’m looking at you).

But at the least I’d like to see Dune Messiah to fully wrap up Paul’s Journey.

what do you think?

As a fan of the original book and the original book alone, I'm not sure what to think. Legendary greenlighting Dune: Part 2 seemed to have been out of outcry and respect more than box office, as it sunk like a rock in its second weekend. Is it good for a covid curve or would it have done about the same business?

Unless Part 2 does gangbuster business in 2023, I think a third movie is a stretch. If it happens, I will say Children of Dune deserves another screen adaptation. I liked the decidedly not terrible Sci-Fi Channel adaptation with James McAvoy, so a big screen iteration would be an interesting curiosity--If possible.

Dune Messiah would be a good choice to adapt, but Part 2 would need to succeed.

It appears WB and Legendary are very confident in Dune, as they have also greenlit a HBO max series about the Bene Gesserit.

I would love to see Children of Dune in this new interpretation of the Duniverse. I would live to see God Emporer of Dune given screen treatment as well as I feel it wraps up Leto II. But either way I’m excited to see part 2.

HinikunaGoji,
Legendary/WB certainly have more faith in Dune right now than some other franchises of theirs. I'm not entirely sure it's founded, given the start. At this juncture I would say the future of their Dune franchise depends on the next movie. But that's such a long way off it's hard to call that the only indicator.

I wasn’t really saying they’re justified in having higher hopes, more that I’d be interested in seeing more of dune. And more of the novels adapted whether that happens or not

HinikunaGoji,
No, I get that. I was just musing over the possibilities.
