MemberRespectedSep-07-2020 3:08 AMCorrect me if I am mistaken but the android in the last picture that DK posted looks a bit like General Grievous in Star Wars 2. It actually looks kind of cool, also the elongated thing that it has for a nose looks a bit like it was when we saw the Space Jockey in the first Alien movie.

Pitch Black has David Twohy as a director, he was involved with one of the scripts for Alien 3. He was the first one that mentioned a prison planet that later became Fiorina 161, the planet where the prison was located. One of the interesting things about movies is that you can see similarities with other ones, intentional or not. This only shows that it is difficult to come up with something of your own, since many things have been done before.
"Now he can stretch out without being shackled to the Alien universe."
If that’s the case I'm glad if he won't get to direct a third prequel because what I have seen of RBW isn't very interesting. Another crazy android, where have we seen that before? ;) Seriously, if people will find it interesting then good for them but I just feel bored from watching the trailers.

That sounds crappy, but then Scott is a visualizer that got to have a decent script otherwise he is screwed. My reason for boycotting this is that I am not even the least interested in an android series or movie that has crappy human characters. Both the story and the characters got to work, the look comes after that. Unfortunately Scott just seems to be able to handle the visuals even though he's very good at it.
Nope, I'll watch something else since I am tired of the android stuff but it seems to have some sort of take on religion which is interesting. As far as the video-clip is concerned, to me it is just another AI gone bonkers in other words boring.

I take it your more of a IPHONE kind of a Guy ;)
Joke ;)
I hope this Series does well.... because maybe it could lead Ridley Scott to look at doing another Sci-Fi TV show but then maybe ONE that does-not rely on the A.I Theme so he can try something Different.

If you care to read a good one, you can find it on IGN.
Not for BigDave, he has enough patience to wait for the show.

Fair enough. But sometimes the best way to avoid temptation is to simply yield to it.

@Roger G
I cant seem to Access that Image on my Computer, i did have a Quick Look on a Phone but the Screen is Small and Image not Clear so its HARD to work out so i need to see the Image some other way and i can give better TWO Cents.
From what LITTLE i saw of it and taking into Account the Mithraich (Sun Worshipers) then maybe it bares more to the Story of Icarus

MemberMartianSep-09-2020 5:45 AMNope i cant view the image anywhere NOW so i have to go by the Few Seconds i had a Quick Look at it.
The Painting that MOST resembles it is
The Fall of Phaeton by Sebastiano Ricci
This MAY-NOT be the same, its just what i think it looked a bit like from the FEW Seconds i only got to see the IMAGE.
The Story of Phaeton is Similar to Icarus to a Degree and i think maybe BOTH of these Stories could Connect to what we may be shown in RBW.... but then i have YET to see the TV Show and could be WAY OFF BASE.
I can from the Trailers only assume that Mankind had Advanced Science to FAR to Create some Synthetic Beings who became Powerful, that it Caused a Religious Cult to go to WAR against Science and Atheist i can only assume that MOTHER saw that Religion had always Caused Downfall for Mankind and Conflict and maybe is Sentient and Feared for her own Species that HER KIND had led to the Destruction of Earth.
I will assume some of the REBELS (Atheist) saw that they have to SAVE our Species and Tasked the TWO Androids to go to Kepler22B to Raise Embryo's and Start Again.
Maybe the Mithraich Religion has some Armageddon Prophecy about the Destruction of Earth and HOW their Cult/Followers will Inherit a NEW EDEN and so they are OFF to Kepler22B which may HOLD some Significance to them in some Prophecy.
The Arrival of the Mithraich Concerns Mother she knows if they Discover she is a Android they would Destroy her, and she would also FEAR that the Cult of the Mithraich would just lead to the SAME DOWNFALL of Mankind again.
So her Agenda is to STOP THEM and maybe Rescue some Children to TRY and Raise to be about Science and not Gods but that has Conflicts.
Even though i have NOT seen the TV Series i would be Drawn to think that WHEN/IF we get to a Season TWO we could see MOTHER get a GOD Complex and wish to RULE the Planet Kepler22B as a God and develop her OWN kind of Cult of Worship to HER.
so she kind of would BECOME what she had at First been FIGHTING against.

MemberConversationalistSep-09-2020 4:15 PMMother is a Necromancer, a battle model repurposed to raise children. That's why she is feared by the Mithraic.
I can't wait to see the series, until then I am open to spoilers, that won't make me enjoy less each episode, on the contrary, I would be more attentive to details that otherwise I might miss without the spoilers.

MemberLegendSep-09-2020 4:51 PMSuperAlien I watched the first episode off YouTube several times now and keep finding little details- and a couple flaws. Mother is a very interesting character and there are things that are strange but will likely be explained as the story unfolds. Right now I can see at least three major things that will develop but I don't want to spoil anything. The first episode is well paced and even has some humor that balances well with some tense and dark scenes. The musical score really helps too. It's very much about religion/atheism and starts to point out the pros and cons of both camps.

MemberConversationalistSep-09-2020 5:59 PMThanks dk.
Sounds like my kind of show, and by the time I will be able to see it, I guess all epispdes will be released. I'm preparing for binge watching.
I am glad they got it right with the musical score. That's one of the things I like at Ridley Scott's films, although the visuals are great, the score and the actors' voices spice up the whole package, sometimes I just like to close my eyes and immerse in the soundscape.
It's gonna be a cool winter!

MemberInitiateSep-09-2020 6:46 PMI am not a big fan of the this show...I like some of the special effects and that is about it. This looks more like a rough draft on screen then anything else....and it looks like they had a lot of money to do this but could not get the concepts right.
No spoilers but this has taken a lot out of the RS playbook from other films....these androids are horrible in my opinion.....saw better treatments back in the day on star trek tv shows.....this is no Michael Fasbender playing a synthetic - not even close.
The screaming part is cheap and very annoying.....we get that the mechanism can create high frequency waves....less is more.....and the fact that it is a female characterization with the screaming could be misconstrued as potentially sexist....
I get that the show is a dystopian portrayal and yet even with the sparse levity that is there the show just seems dark and overcast like a cloudy day overall.
Everything has a serious undertone to the performances like the characters are not happy in their roles....a lot of the actors are young so this happens on productions like this with inexperienced directors....I give this so far a C- for the effort; but, there is nothing here to love or keep....
Moving on and cutting my losses with this....gonna fast forward through most of it because you kinda have to...it was not worth the effort in certain parts.

MemberLegendSep-09-2020 7:00 PMBlackAnt Though I disagree on a some points, your assessment sounds fairly reasonable. I am only speaking of the first episode open to the public and figure things will be fleshed out later. I am confused on Mother's powers but will ride with it since it's only the first episode.

MemberConversationalistSep-09-2020 8:11 PMRoger G you are over thinking.
This way you could find some mythical dimension in the Snow White and the seven dwarves, seven being a magical number as well, while BlackAnt could say the story is sexist, racist and sizeist.
C'mon people, just enjoy the show or at least let others enjoy it.

MemberLegendSep-09-2020 8:23 PMSuperAlien Yes, but that is part of the fun around here. We can enjoy or trash but we discuss and debate. I disagree with BlackAnt and that's ok since he does bring up some decent points. Roger G and BigDave can get way deep into the weeds but it's cool that a show can inspire that engagement. As much as I like it, I can even troll a bit and call Mother a Karen!

Fair point. Maybe they couldn't afford Rob Halford screaming for vengeance /s Good screams aren't cheap, and cheap screams aren't good.
SuperAlien
MemberConversationalistSep-09-2020 9:59 PMRob Halford's screams didn't hurt anybody, so casting him as Mother would defeat the purpose.
On the other hand, Amanda Collin's screams hurt a lot, both on / off screen.

MemberLegendSep-09-2020 10:29 PMVictims of Changes, Screaming for Vengeance and Pain Killer prove that he has/had the chops for the screams. I know it's way off topic, but I am also adding some distracting levity to a serious OT like we traditionally do around here. The screams literally melted faces, which is very metal. Halford's screams melted faces too. That's what a metal god does- all fear the Sentinel. Cheers!

MemberConversationalistSep-09-2020 10:54 PMdk I think of a better candidate than Rob Halford; Sinead O'Connor.
