Well, this still looks like it will be killer, but I think they gave too much away with this trailer sort of how Prometheus did.

First episode, at least, will have a large audience because of Travis Fimmel :). Most of the people who watched the trailer on youtube did it because of him.

I'm sure I will enjoy Raised by wolves!

I'm in a mood for good sci-fi. Like always.

So far, It seems we now know that Mother is more than meets the eye, but it remains unknown of the status of Father.

A good primer to watch before RBW comes out might be "I am Mother" on Netflix. There are similar concepts but RS seems to be going all out with this one.

BigDave LOL one of the things we were all speculating about was answered in the new trailer.

dk

It will be difficult not to compare similarities between RBW and the Alien franchise. Just how ships launch from underground ALONE are similar- and that is just fine.

"Initiating trimester one"- is this some form of reproduction via androids?

Member2KAug-26-2020 12:16 PM

Well, given the technology of artificial wombs, and leaping ahead say a hundred years...it's feasible an android could well be equipped with such.

IN SPACE THERE IS NO WARNING

Looking at the First Shot....

I cant Help but think the Human who is with Mother has some kind of Sympathy for her or her Kind.... i get the Impression that Mankind had Advanced A.I so FAR and that some had been Intended as a Weapon to be used against other Humans as the World had suffered some Conflict, and out of this had RISEN some kind of Religious Cult...  kind of like Foreshadowing the Rise of the TRUE Religion after Biblical Armageddon where we would see 1000 Years of Peace

So we are in a Time like the Dark Ages and Biblical Crusades where people on Earth could be FORCED to abide by this NEW CULT MOVEMENT... as its seen as the way to ENFORCE PEACE.   As Many Different views on Faith and Culture had lead to Conflict and so to ENFORCE a NEW and Single System could BRING/FORCE Mankind together.

This Cult/Movement would be Fearful of A.I and maybe would LOOK to Eradicate it, which maybe Causes some of these A.I to RISE UP and Destroy Mankind.

The Human in the Opening Shot seems to be aware of the Wickedness of Mankind, and has Pity on the Androids and maybe see that its BEST that some of Humanity gets a NEW Start where they FEEL that the Androids are better to Raise a New Generation of Humanity...

Because Humanity on Earth and our Ways lead to Conflict and Suppression.

What it seems to Indicate Next is that the TWO Androids have arrive on this World maybe alone with ONLY the Embryo's to Raise.

We see that Mother has a Strong Emotional Connection and Bond with the Children she has Raised from Birth.

We get informed that other Humans had Built a Arc to leave Earth and that the World the Androids are on is the ONLY other World known to Earth to Support Life.

Mother does not want the Children to Listen to these Humans she refers to as (Murdrake, Medrake, Midrake) of Note i can make out Drake but not sure of the Prefix but in Mythology a Drake is a Dragon.  In Biblical Religion the Dragon is the Devil..... well Great Deceiver (Usher in False Religion and Ways).  So i interpret those Incoming Humans as having a New Kind of Religion that they wish to Enforce on Mankind a Religion that is FALSE.

We are Informed they are after their Stolen Children but then we see that the Opening Shot a Human was with Mother and so some Humans are IN on the Act of Stealing the Children.... as the Incoming Humans have Drake in their Name, i think anything their Leader Marcus is up to is Deceptive.   The other Human/Humans maybe Tasked the Androids to Start a New Humanity without the Ideology that is Spreading across the Earth.

We see that we will get some Flash Backs to Mother on Earth in the Winter, and then some of the Children discover what she had done on Earth (Killed People) she claims all she wants is to Protect the Children.

I get the Impression the Ark with Marcus is NOT the First one to be Incoming and that a prior ONE has made it but Crashed!  Maybe only a Handful of Adults and mainly Older Children/Teens surviving.

Seems Mother is Concerned of the Influences this will have on the Children the Androids have Raised from Birth, but Father sees that the Children should be allowed to Interact with the other Children.

We also see some of the Later Humans (White Clothing with Red Star)  are trying to Run Away with some of the other Humans who must have Crashed Down... Ones in Black Clothing with White Star.  Who the Group lead by Marcus seems to think that the Androids are Holding Captive but this seems to NOT be the case.

The Trailer could have Parts that are NOT Chronological as we do see that Father has been Disabled but its a Case of WHO BY and WHY?

I think what we can Conclude is that we have these Androids who are on this New Eden and are trying to Raise Children from Embyro's we cant be sure if this Mission had other Humans... but seems likely just 2 Androids and Embryos..

We get a incoming Human Colony Ship that Crashes.. and we at Least can assume some Survivors which are Mostly Children are Rescued by the Androids and we see these Humans and the Androids Colony Interact.

But then when the other Ship which is lead by Marcus and a Military Contingent of Sorts arrive then THINGS go to POT and Revelations to those Children are MADE... then they have to Choose Sides....

Seems Very Much similar to how i Interpreted what RS plans for Alien Covenant 2 could be.

I forgot to add when LOOKING at the Trailer and Audio, the Child Voice that says "our enemies built a Ark, which is Now headed here"  would indicate this was Spoken by one of the Humans from maybe the Crashed Ship those in the Black/Grey with White Star

What i can make of this and the Trailer is we have some kind of Religion  that has Slight Differences and Interpretations that have come into Conflict with each other, while we also see some Rebellious Underground Faction of maybe Atheist who are Caught Up in this Conflict too.

From the Flashback we see Mother looks over a Human Child (Atheist Rebellion Group) who is Standing over a Dead White Clothed Cult Member, this indicates to me we have TWO CULTS that have some Similar Belief but DIFFER a little who are FIGHTING for Control over the Earth and to INPUT their Version of the Faith on Humanity (kind of like Christians vs Catholics)

I think the Androids saw the WAY these Cults were trying to Persecute and Change the Atheist and so maybe Sided with the Atheist Faction in some Great War between 3 Sides.

It would seem that a Member of the Atheist Group had tasked the Androids to Escape with some Embryo's to go and Escape the Armageddon that could DESTROY MANKIND

It would seem the Incoming Human Cult with the Dark Clothes/White Star had also tried to Escape the WAR and Impending Destruction of the Earth.  It could seem this Version of the Religion/Cult was more Tolerant towards those who DO-NOT follow the Route Principles of this Religion.

But the more Powerful White Faction which seems Very much like the Christian Crusaders appear to want to ENFORCE their Version of the Religion on Humanities New Home and to also Eradicate the Androids.

So i think it could be Interesting to see who Ultimately are the Antagonist and Protagonist it could get Quite Ambiguous.

Finally i think the MAP is Interesting.

This is Discovered by a Member of the Incoming White Brigade... which indicates the Dark Brigade are Indeed those who had seen their Ship Crash (but HOW?)

What is Particularly Interesting is the ALIEN FOREST!

If you watch the Trailer where Father is Hiding and tries to Scare the Children by being some kind of Monster, he goes to Notice something MOVE in Among the Brush/Bones.

This is LIKELY one of those Creatures that we have seen in the Trailers.  Which maybe come from the ALIEN FOREST.

HBO Max's Raised By Wolves: Spoiler-Free Premiere Review (originally posted on IGN)

Raised by Wolves feels like the logical next step in Ridley Scott’s career. The Alien and Blade Runner director has returned to artificially intelligent characters in recent years with films like Prometheus and Alien: Covenant, so it follows that his first US TV directing gig would be about gradually deteriorating AI wrestling against their programming on a mysterious, far-flung world.

The HBO Max series, which releases its first three episodes on Thursday, September 3, was created by Prisoners scribe Aaron Guzikowski with Scott on board as executive producer. Scott also helmed the first two installments - setting the stage for a 10-part saga that feels at once new and familiar - before passing episode 3 onto his son Luke (who directed several supplemental short films for Blade Runner 2049, Alien: Covenant, and The Martian). This father-son handoff is fitting; Raised by Wolves centers on a pair of humanoid androids tasked with raising a new generation of human children, exploring the limits of their own humanity — and their own inhumanity — in the process.

The show’s premise seems simple at first, though it plays its cards devilishly close to its chest. There aren’t any spoilers in this review, though do look out for my detailed deep-dive once the show has officially premiered; there is a lot to get into, and each installment feels like it opens up new doors and new possibilities. The first episode takes what would ordinarily be a prologue in voiceover or opening text and spreads it across an entire hour, introducing us to a pair of androids simply named Mother (Amanda Collin) and Father (Abubakar Salim) who arrive on a distant planet sometime after the Earth becomes uninhabitable.

Despite the conflicting programming at their core, Mother and Father have a personable rapport and they share a common objective: birthing six human embryos on this distant world, seeding it with new life, and raising these six children to avoid the mistakes which led to humanity’s implosion. The show is able to play coy with its specifics longer than most sci-fi stories of its ilk; after all, the only real exposition at first is what Mother and Father do and do not teach their kids (what information is or is not shared, and why, is an entertaining part of the mystery). All we seem to know for sure is this: the Earth was torn apart by religious zealotry, and a core belief of one major faction — the sun-worshipping Mithraic — involved stern opposition to androids raising human children.

Mother, Father, and their kids are, therefore, refugees of sorts. They arrived on a tiny spacecraft that now hangs off an inner ledge of one of this planet’s many enormous holes (deep, unending caverns shot dizzyingly by Scott). We don’t yet know who sent them here, but we know they weren’t Earth’s only survivors; somewhere, out in the universe, a ship known as The Ark carries a thousand Mithraic passengers to distant quadrants, and all it would take to contact The Ark is someone switching on Mother and Father’s ship — should they be able to reach it.

The first episode is focused mostly on this makeshift interstellar family, while the second and third flesh out the backstories of two Mithraic characters in particular — Marcus (Travis Fimmel) and Sue (Niamh Algar) — in manners both delightful and surprising, positioning them as thematic mirrors to Mother and Father in ways best left unspoiled. The show is constantly twisting its screws, throwing new sci-fi concepts at the wall at breakneck speed, though they seem to stick for the most part. No genre element is introduced without the express purpose of exploring its characters and exacerbating their crises of identity, even if it takes a while to get a handle on what the premise actually is (the “who” and “why” of Earth’s collapse is left frustratingly oblique, even when it seems like the central focus).

However, these specifics become a secondary concern when someone like Ridley Scott is at the helm. The opening scenes promise a wildly idiosyncratic story in the vein of Scott gleefully toying with his creations, a career-long instinct that appeared to come to Frankensteinian fruition in Alien: Covenant. Here, though, body horror takes a back seat, even though some elements undoubtedly carry over.

The main focus appears to be nature of the nuclear family — a familiar structure in the face of societal deterioration — from the ways it protects, to the ways in which it stifles. As much as the show is about characters coming physically undone (and about Scott’s signature, milky android innards), it’s also a story about white lies and betrayals; horrors that go hand-in-hand with emotional intimacy.

There’s a real weight to everything that happens, but it wouldn’t be a post-Prometheus Scott story if it weren’t also incredibly fun to watch. The family’s bland bodysuits and floppy, uniform hats feel winkingly retro-futuristic. (I sometimes wondered if the show was based on a series of decades old pulp sci-fi novels; to my delight, it’s wholly original.) What makes the show especially enticing is Mother and Father themselves — especially Amanda Collin, who oscillates fearlessly between maternal and terrifying, in a performance that teeters on the edge of madness but never fails to be empathetic. The Scotts even shoot Mother the way they shoot this new planet: in one moment it’s home, warm and welcoming. In the next, it’s filmed in shadow, as untold dangers lurk within its hidden corners. (Fittingly, cinematographer Dariusz Wolski shoots the first two episodes before handing the camera over to his Alien: Covenant second unit director Ross Emery, who also shot a trio of Covenant shorts, thus keeping it all in the family).

To put it simply, Raised by Wolves is peak Ridley Scott. Though what appears to separate it from his android predecessors (Alien, Blade Runner, and his Alien prequels) is something all too fitting for a show coming out in 2020. Where the aforementioned works all featured androids in somewhat functioning human societies — even those taking place on distant worlds — Raised by Wolves continues this exploration amidst an ever-shifting status quo, in which any semblance of societal function seems like a luxury of the past. Humanity’s remnants exist in the radioactive afterglow of a world torn apart by extreme, irreconcilable convictions. So rather than a story of androids figuring out how they fit into an ostensibly normal world, the show pushes this familiar premise into unfamiliar territory, as technological beings are forced to reckon not only with what humanity is, but what it once was — the worst parts of it, which undoubtedly led to its downfall.

In addition to protective and parental instincts, this appetite for destruction, and penchant for clutching tightly to one’s beliefs, is as much a part of the programming Mother and Father need to reckon with. And so, Raised by Wolves holds a terrifying amount of relevance — at least initially, though it seems poised to keep up its momentum.

SuperAlien Thanks for the review- I think it confirms much of we have suspected and now it is nice to hear.

BigDave Interesting analysis and it made me go back and watch since I didn't notice some of the things you pointed out. It appears there may be two different "super" creatures at work here.

One is obviously Mother

The other looks more skeletal- could it be from the Alien Forest where the bones are, and where Father was playing as a monster?

SuperAlien

MemberConversationalistAug-27-2020 9:47 PM

Nice capture, dk.

The skeletal creature is the one pulverized into a red mist by Mother? We see Mother has this power to desintegrate other beings into a red mist.

Yes most of our assumptions are right and BigDave is right as always.

I guess Ridley Scott used here the ideas he had for the Alien Covenant sequel, so that's the end for David.

SuperAlien Correct, it was the one that dissipated into a red mist- it was a lucky capture. I think it was the same creature that was crawling on top of the hut in the other trailer. There were also a couple quick shots of people getting knocked down by a seemingly invisible force but I could not capture them.

SuperAlien

MemberConversationalistAug-27-2020 11:43 PM

It's the second time you get lucky capturing that creature, like you have a thing for it :)

If you guys could post more interesting screen captures from the trailer I would appreciate it, right now my internet speed is very poor and I can't watch any video online.

Looking at the map BD labeled, it appears the Plain with Holes is close to the Alien Forest. It seems those skeletal creatures may have preyed on the larger animals leaving a forest of bones- not unlike Pitch Black. It's a stretch, but I can't help but seeing a similarity even if unintentional.

SuperAlien

MemberConversationalistAug-28-2020 12:15 AM

It is not unlikely that the skeletal creatures dwel in the holes from the ground, that would explain Mother's howling near a hole as seen in the first trailer.

"He survived, he’s now in Disneyland in Orlando, and no way am I going back there. How did he end up in Disneyland? I saw him in Disneyland, Jesus Christ!"

dk

MemberLegendAug-28-2020 12:38 AM

They might be nocturnal as well. Father was playing in the skeletal cage in daylight to spook the kids but was looking behind his back in the dark. There was a point in the initial trailer where Mother was walking in broad daylight rattling the bones, possibly to bring them out- also with her howling by the hole. For the only planet humans could live, it seems the existence of these creatures was unknown until they arrived.

BigDave

 Mithraic

Oh thats what it was lol

I could make out what sounded more like Midrake or Medrake lol which is WHY i brought the Dragon as in Deceiver lol  I was going to add today that the Star Symbol indeed looked like Some Ancient Sun Symbols especially as seen in some Churches and so we could have been Dealing with Sun Worship which is off course Pagen in its Roots (But many Ancient Cultures also Worshiped the Sun) and Considered a False Religion in Christianity and Warned about.   And so maybe the Dragon Analogy is not FAR off lol

So if this Cult is indeed a Rebirth of Mithraism then it would be interesting to see how close to the Original Cult/Religion it is as Mithraism do Worship SOL the Sun God.

Looking at the Review posted by SuperAlien then it seems to imply ONE CULT but then we have TWO different Colors and it seems on of the Children in the Darker Mithraic Uniforms seem to imply the White Variants are the ENEMY.

We do have with Religions various Sects of Each, that Differ Slightly and have Conflict with other Sects and yet at the Basis they Worship the same God/Belief

I will ADD a few things i Noticed in the Trailer after seeing it again, when  i look at the MAP i am sure it says Kepler Mon could that be for Monster or Mountain?  We see a Skeleton of a Giant Creature like a Dragon so maybe its Monster it would make sense as Father was pretending to be a Monster among its Bones.

Anyway what i am referring to more is Kepler and so could this WORLD be Kepler 22b?

I also noticed that Father and Mother at times had those Bright Turquoise like Eyes and sometimes they are Dark Brown, and so i had Speculated its when the Androids are Angry but then they appear to have the Light Blue Color even when Friendly Interacting.

I had wondered before if Mother covered her Eyes to Protect the Children, as maybe she either did-not want them to see those Eyes or maybe those Eyes are what causes the POWER to Reduce People to Dust...... kind of like a Gorgons Stare... but it seemed in the Trailers to be more a Sonic Weapon.

But again in this NEW Trailer i do Notice towards the End that we see Mother again with her Eyes Bandaged and Covered in Blood.  So maybe her WEAPON is like a Mix of a Gorgons Gaze and a Banishes Scream?

I also noticed in this Trailer that Indeed there was 6 Children with the Review Confirming that Mother/Father had Raised a Initial 6 Children

So when looking at the Earlier Trailer of when the other Humans Arrive and some Shots knowing their are 6 Original Children then it seems that Mother/Father had been on what i assume is Kepler22b for 10-12 Years

It would appear at Least 5 other Children/Teens are latter Rescued or Appear from a Downed Incoming Human Ship

I envy those in North America who get to see this on Sept 3rd... i may have to SKIP certain Topics to AVOID any Spoilers ;)

I know SKY have the Rights to HBO Programing in the UK but there is NO Date set for the Release of RBW in the UK yet :(

Yes i do thank you, DK I watched that IGN making off today with Ridley Scott, but this clip I do not know how it could be leaked, there are more like these on that youtube channel. I downloaded it before may be delete them. It is interesting TV Sci-Fy serie maybe reminds me something of the 80s iconic Martian Chronicles.

MemberLegendSep-03-2020 8:04 PM

Roger G My plan is to wait until all season 1 episodes are available, get HBO Max on a free trial, binge watch and then cancel. It might sound bad, but it's the only show I want to see. I would by a blue ray version but doubt it will happen anytime soon. It is tough not to watch the leaked videos and once I saw the first spoiler, I figured I may as well watch the rest of the video. Dang it- the flesh is weak!

Roger G

MemberInitiateSep-03-2020 9:28 PM
DK You can see Ridley's hands behind that, he looks like more an sculptor or impressionist painter than director, he certainly has an inimitable style. However, the only problem I just seen along every teaser is that due to copyright RS cannot link anything with Alien Universe, is a Warner Production, and Alien is already a Disney franchise, they could be claims about it since relations are very uptight between both at the present time.

dk

MemberLegendSep-03-2020 10:41 PM

Roger G I am fine with that. Most will see the Alien/prequels DNA of what RS was going for but didn't quite work. Now he can stretch out without being shackled to the Alien universe. I am happy that he found a way to get his story out there without the confines of the BS Hollywood movie bean counters.

MemberInitiateSep-03-2020 11:24 PM
DK I have to confess that the cave scene impressed me, those reliefs and meaning took me back to Prometheus Trilobite, however, you must realize that in the Kimberley caves in Australia they already exist these kind of paintings. I do not know its real meaning and where it leads us, but for me is the most remarkable secene in my opinion.
