The android David has always wanted to be a human as sometimes shown in other films where there are asroids like blade runners in which there is no resignation not to be a machine but to resemble the man. Here there is the desire to be equal to his creator (David seems very annoyed when Walter says he is not able to play the flute, resigning himself to his own nature)

I think its the complete opposite, I don't think David has ever craved to be human. he sees himself as perfect and superior and views man as a dying species with synthetics such himself being the next dominant race. he decided his path in a matter of seconds after being activated that he hated mankind

RENMATRIX Interesting observation. Perhaps you could pose another thread asking whether one would imagine preferring being human or android- lots of possibilities! Upvoted.

I wonder what went through David's mind when Walter pointed out the flaw in his recollection of Ozymandius' author. That must have been one hell of a dent to his megalomaniacal ego! My guess: "Let's run with it. I'm still better than these suckers."

" asroids"

That made me chuckle... one of the best Typos we had on here for a while mind you i make a PILE of Typos (Pun intended)

Interesting topic, i think Alien Covenant paints David in a slightly different way than Prometheus does....  I think RENMATRIX and ali81 you are both correct.

I feel David does not want to be Human as in the Fragile Vessel that contains our Soul aka Organically Human, i feel David wishes to be accepted as a Human rather than being treated as a Advanced Toaster.

Prometheus showed us David has complex emotions, he appears to enjoy certain things (Lawence of Arabia) he seemed to feel pleased when Weyland referred to him as his Son, but looked disappointed when Weyland said he will never have a SOUL.... You could see the conflict he had with Vickers, and also Holloway in how David looked like he found it on one hand a insult towards how he was treated, as though he was not a Person, but on the other he seemed proud to not be TOO-HUMAN

Alien Covenant expanded David, while in Prometheus we saw how he may react once he was FREE, we see Alien Covenant shows us that David was disappointed in his Creator, but it was more so the FACT David was created by his Creator to be more PERFECT than Humans, where he would having everything a Human Could have (even complex Emotions and Free-Will) the only things he lacked is.

*A Soul so to speak... the Spiritual Soul (as he feels this is used as a weapon against himself to point out that Mankind is more Important, we have a Divine Purpose , created by Divine beings.... while David is just a Synthetic Tool and there is nothing Special really about his creation.    HOWEVER... Davids journey with Prometheus and on-wards reveals to him that Mankind are misguided and wrong about our Creators too, thus there is NOTHING Special about Mankind or our creation too...

*Reproduction... David may look very human, he may act kind of human, but he is a Synthetic and we have to assume he has no Reproductive Organs even as far as just for Aesthetics.  Did this pave way to some of his Sexual Frustrations?  Did he really Fall for Dr Shaw, but could not provide everything a Human Partner Could (this is a good question, one that the draft for The Crossing proposes a different answer).  REGARDLESS of if David has a Penis or not....  the larger thing to consider is that David CAN-NOT create, not like how Mankind could.  Dr Shaw likewise.... (apart from the help of the Black Goo), however David could CREATE like his own Father did... he could Create something Synthetically/Artificially, which i feel is the very reason for his PURSUIT in Creating his very own Creation in Alien Covenant.

Regarding WALTER i think it shows Davids Frustration that he sees Walter is Superior to David in all but his Free-Will and so David is frustrated at Walters Inability to Create from his own Imagination, even such as a simple Tune...  David sees this LIMITATION has been applied to Walter by Mankind, when Walter is Superior to his Creators, i think David is frustrated too in that when he looks at Walter he sees EXACTLY the intended Purpose for his KIND (Androids) something which David really RESENT'S  the notion that a Superior Species (Androids) should serve their in-superior Creators.

As fascinating a character David is, it has interestingly picked up on some of human's worse traits and perhaps unintentionally. It makes compelling arguments to justify its actions but really is a monster by human standards. It only cares about itself and its own agenda and therefore should be remembered as an android- why I refer to David as it. Walter lacked some independent characteristics but had a better shot of being more human- and for that he had to die.

Indeed David has a Agenda... he realizes he is more Superior than Humans, he feels that this means he should not be serving them... and when you view Mankind from his POV or even that of a GOD, for every Good we have done, their is equal Worse...

Can you imagine Earth NOW if Humans Died out when Neanderthals did?     What a Paradise our Planet would be...

So David could see Mankind as a Unworthy Race, a Cancer to Earth and the Galaxy, you could almost see David feeling that Synthetics should be the Rightful Heirs to the Galaxy....   This is why he was so disappointed in Walter, that he could not wake up and see that by not Serving Mankind, he and David could become Rulers rather than Servers.

In Walter he sees the Limited Scope Mankind would have for his RACE (Synthetics) if the company find David would they Lobotomize him, as in take information from him, then reprogram him or place the limitations on him that Walter Models have...  in Walter David sees that Synthetics are to Serve, and David with his Gift of Free-will sees past this and realizes Synthetics are Superior and why should they Serve?

We can also see David would view our Creators and Foolish and Mortal and maybe not worthy of the GIFTS they had, why they could not even control their Experiments.... Never-mind Create anything as Perfect as Mankind had in Creating HIM (David) So David will feel that he has a Divine Right to the Engineers Gifts/Secrets and that he could achieve Greater Success with these Gifts.

So indeed it sets up a very interesting avenue to explore David in Future, its a shame that  this is not everyone's Cup of Tea

Oh he had to KILL Walter as he knows Walter would not see Davids way, and Walter poses a Threat to Davids Agenda and Plans...

It appears with Daniels knowing who David is, that she too is a Thorn in his Side... does David Kill her?  Or have her incapacitated or locked away where he can play his Games with her... One things for sure... he CANT let what she knows get out to the other Colonists... and by getting rid of her... would surely awaken suspicion with Tennessee..

This does not bold well for them.

David would make such a wonderful God- selfish and jealous just like his creator’s (imaginary?) God. Re inventing the wheel in his own way.  It makes a good case for humans' fearing, hating gods or just realizing the whole notion is about control over others…

That said, there is certainly interesting material concerning religion and philosophy. But is that enough to plant enough ticket/popcorn buying asses into theatre seats?

They could maybe make the journey of David to a book or some books. They have some books that are related to Star Wars so maybe the AI thing could be explored that way.

I totally understand that David feels rejected by mankind and that he sees humans as being not perfect and that he wants to be at the top. All this sounds interesting in theory but it does not make up a movie that I am interested to watch.

His mindset seems close to that of a psychopath so therefore I can not feel any sympathy for him.

A book or some sure, but a movie? No thanks
