Top 10 Favourite Movies of 2017

10. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2

Although it's nowhere near as good as the first one, I still enjoyed this film. Even though it kinda threw away the character development from the first film and made Drax a pervert, they beautifully ended Yondu's story.

 

9. The LEGO Batman Movie

You know it's sad when a campy Lego movie is better than a live-action superhero team-up *cough cough* Justice League. This film was funny, enjoyable, and overall a fun flick.

 

8. Wonder Woman

One of the unexpected surprises I saw this year. Given how the DCEU flopped last year with Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad, I expected this film to flop as well. Fortunately, I was wrong. This film made Wonder Woman my favourite character in this universe.

 

7. Thor: Ragnarok

This was the film for which I had the lowest expectations besides Wonder Woman. All the performances are great, and while Hela isn't particularly outstanding as a villain, she's better than garbage like Whiplash and Ronan.

 

6. Kong: Skull Island

One of the few films from the first few months of the year I liked. This movie helped set the Monsterverse on stronger ground, after the somewhat shaky reception of Godzilla three years earlier.

 

5. Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi

This is probably where you're gonna stop reading, but hear me out. I know this movie has a lot of dumb shit in it. I know some of you will complain that it's a dragged-out chase scene, but so was The Empire Strikes Back. If you can look past the flaws like me, I'm sure you'll find enjoyment. But if you hate it, that's fine.

 

4. Blade Runner 2049

Truth be told, the marketing for this movie was so bad that I forgot it existed for a while. But boy was I glad I remembered it, because it sure was amazing.

 

3. Dunkirk

Christopher Nolan basically can't make a bad movie at this point, given his success with the likes of Dark Knight trilogy, Inception, and Interstellar. This is my favourite film he's made behind Inception and The Dark Knight.

 

2. Spider-Man: Homecoming

Seeing how I went nuts over how good this movie was, you probably expected this at first place, right? Well, it was beaten out by one other film. Nonetheless, I still loved it. It made great use of its comedy through the performances of Jacob Batalon as Ned Leeds and of course, the star of the show himself, Tom Holland as Peter Parker. Michael Keaton as Adrian Toomes is also one of the MCU's better villains.

 

1. Logan

This movie made 2017 one of the best years for Marvel. This is their answer to The Dark Knight. Hugh Jackman gave it his all in his final outing as the Wolverine, and Daphne Keen's X-23 steals the show, as does Sir Patrick Stewart's Charles Xavier. The ending is breathtaking, heart-wrenching, and tear-jerking, being one of the few movies that's made me cry. If any Marvel film has shown that they can stand to The Dark Knight, it's this one.
