Well the newest Star Wars movie has been released and seems to have divided the fanbase. Since it's hard to discuss this movie without spoilers those will be allowed so if you haven't seen this movie yet don't read any of the comments below.

For those of you that have seen the movie, have at it.

It is a disgrace. They dared to kill off Luke Skywalker with no fanfare? He didn't even fight Kylo Ren, he appeared as a stupid projection--and then just randomly dies on the island. HE NEVER EVEN LEFT THE ISLAND. The dialogue was bad, it was easily the most boring of all the Star Wars--I just despised it.

Who was Snoke? Obviously no one as he was killed off literally like a fly. "I can see your every INTENT" *Is impaled with a Lightsaber."

I just HATED this movie.

Good grief.

Sadly Star Wars The Last Jedi  is to The Force Awakens as Alien Covenant is to Prometheus.

By that the first of this new series (EP7-9 for Star Wars, and Alien Prequels) had set up a Story and Plot, that ended with Main Characters and Plot Points left to be explored, to then just be brushed under the Carpet.

SNOKE Built up as a Very Important and Huge Character, a Enigma, someone with a History that many fans would be thinking who is he, how old is he, is he a Sith etc etc...  only to be used in the Next Movie as a Plot Device, and killed off with such little impact...  This was similar to the way AC dealt with the Engineers, as opposed to finding out more about them in the Prometheus sequel.

LUKE: They Key Player next to Vader in the Franchise, he was not used enough and Disney had to Plug their Unnecessary little Characters to add some hey its Frozen/Shrek appeal (i am talking about the Race that shared the Island with Luke and the Comedy Moments that they ended up in).  But i guess Pougies or what ever too lol....  I think they Rushed to Kill off Luke i think he should have survived but then be Cut Down maybe even Betrayed by Rey in the Next Movie.

SNOKES GAURD: WTF with that... these guys had the most Action Time than any other New Order Members, like Storm Troopers and whats with the Praetorian Guard all looking a bit different and each having a different Weapon, this was like some Evil TMNT Scene or Actually Fricken Power Rangers. I felt they needed to look the same and be armed with a few weapons and not given as much time.

STORM TROOPERS: Well these Guys are one of the Biggest Part of the Franchise, and in this Movie they mainly appeared Marching, Standing and getting Blown Up... The same goes for ever other New Order Personnel...

THE SHIPS: The Battle Scenes were Disappointing to, be it Tie-Fighters, X-Wings what ever, they all appeared for short periods, and basically Poe super fast gunning down X-Wings that barely appeared, and then repeat with them vs the Falcon....  The same goes with the Last Scene... this could have been a bit of a HOTH but those Snow Speeder replacements was just disappointing and basically just got wiped out, the NEW AT-AT thingys just basically stood there killed the Speeder thingys then played SW Battlefront vs Luke LOL

The Larger Ships did not play a good role either, it was just Destroyer blasting the Rebel Fleet, then Last Rebel Ship turns around and Hyper Drives into Snokes Ship which destroys it.

PHASMA: Another important Character Killed off, but at least i guess she got a bit more Screen time than Poor Bobba Fett in ROTJ, i think her use/appearance again was rushed but maybe being Flung into Space with a Hole in her Helmet she can Survive like Supergirl i mean Princess Leia

KYLO: I felt they teased us with a TWIST here but i saw it coming.. so i thought, so we got the double bluff but you know he is gonna turn Good in the End Right? I felt some of the scenes between him and Rey was interesting, a lot of the movie is Sacrificed for the purpose of THESE Two.. i feel more could be done.. but again KYLO just does not look the Part, his costume is disappointing.. but we wont be seeing that again lol,  and the Voice... anyone would think we got another SCREAM MOVIE on our hands.. to be fair a unmasked Kylo is not that bad, i mean look at young Anakin? They just need to cut out the Stroppy Teenager on his Period Antics.  THERE IS HOPE for Kylos Character.

REY: I feel in parts she was not to bad, the whole meeting Snoke Scene could have been done different, but they did a good job of teasing maybe we would see either Rey Turn to the Dark, or Kylo sees the Light or both.... but i think this is something we shall see NEXT i hope they do more with her and throw a Curve-ball in the next movie... i feel the reveal about her Parents is just a DISNEY MORAL Story.. "hey its not about where your from, its what you can become"  Yeah im Jenny from Block etc. and so a message to the Kids that Believe in yourself you can become what ever you want.

LEIA: No Comment.... well ok Superwoman lol but i can think of a reason for this, so its all good, hey if Rey can become a more Powerful Jedi than Kylo, with less Training than any Jedi ever had, then i guess Leia has to be be Force Strong.

YODA: Erm... i can see why, but i think it was done a little bit to Disney,

I think thats enough for now...  As i started with i feel this has taken a similar route to disappointment that Alien Covenant had too.  Also as with AC it appears they took Fans Back Lash at The Force Awakens being too much New Hope meets Phantom Menace and WANTED something NEW

And Boy they got that LOL I think Disney also put FAR to many Disney ish Characters/Monsters and Goofs in a little is ok... we can live with JAWA'S and EWOKS but seems Disney are plugging to many Goofy, Funny Cute Scenes to please the under 10's this is NOT Shrek!

Well good thing I skipped it. But I need to ask you something: Do they really burn the books of the Jedi, destroying 1000s of years of tradition and knowledge to democratize the force usage? The could be an event as impactful as the burning the Library of Alexandria in our real world and it is portrayed as a good thing? Now how will force users became one with the force when they die, every ghost will visit it's relatives?

MemberInitiateDec-19-2017 8:36 AM

If you're really curious the books aren't destroyed, but by doing so it seems to really undercut Yoda's last lesson to Luke on it.

The movie isn't all bad, but it does destroy certain OT characters to further their plot with the new ones.

Mark Hamill on the Last Jedi

The legend himself explains it perfectly.

Good grief.

MemberInitiateDec-20-2017 9:04 AM

I will say my biggest problem with the movie is how they handled Luke. I agree with Mark Hamill that to really enjoy the movie I just have to think of him as another character, or some alternate reality Luke

GG

Member2KDec-20-2017 11:09 AM

Jake Skywalker, as Mark said lol.

I honestly am rather mixed on this movie.

Godzilla... Truly a God incarnate.

MemberInitiateDec-20-2017 6:17 PM

Some one on a fan site pointed out this movie might have worked better if it took place much later on down the line rather than just 30 years or so after the original, and I tend to agree, as things are they basically say the OT failed and everything they did either meant nothing, or they fully regressed and actually went backwards in progress.

Member2KDec-21-2017 10:25 AM

What is ticking me off are these articles saying people dislike it because it is PC. IT'S NOT ABOUT PC, it's about the fact that they disrespected and disregarded OT characters and most of the mythos of Star Wars!

They literally blew up Admiral Ackbar with no fanfare!

Good grief.

Im Durp, Luke was probably in purgatory. He 'died' when the temple was brought down on him. Unable to leave purgatory he did was he could.

I can see some reasons for certain things....  Lukes fate, totally understand it, but i would have left this fate for the last movie, as Luke really did not get involved as much as should have, the problem is the movie had multiple Plot Points it was pushing its like we was covering 3 main Plots, flashing back and forth and the main one was Rey and Kylo and this came at the expensive of not dealing much with Snoke, the Storm Troopers or any real Space Battles etc...

The Arc of Fin and Rose, Poe and Leia and Rey and Kylo all came at the expensive of other plots...  Fans expecting a Typical Star Wars battle scenes etc and Action would be disappointed, much like those who say expected Alien Covenant to be like Aliens..  The Storm Troopers were given as much service as the Xenomorph was in Alien Covenant.

It was a bit OTT in removing a number of Characters, while also adding little scenes and comedy alien race moments that suited a Shrek Movie or Frozen than being in a Star Wars movie...

Saw the movie again, and i just felt more disappointed, i got to understand and accept the Luke Arc, i understand the Superwoman Leia scene now.... well i can think of reasons to explain it lol  but i still think the whole New Order vs Rebels was pushed aside inc most of its characters on either side, purely to pursue Fin and Roses Adventure and Rey and Kylos Plot..

I think the whole IDEA could be interesting but then the whole Story should have been given to someone else to then Tinker with it and not make it too well Disney...    the same i feel with Alien Covenant, i feel the Idea was good but executed bad... that movie needed someone to take the whole Plot and Tinker with that too.

After 2nd Viewing i have to give The Last Jedi a 5/10 on par with Phantom Menace and it only gets a 5/10 for same reasons as PM  because ignoring some irritating Characters (Ja Ja) half of the movie was pretty decent....    the same applies with the Last Jedi...

Lets hope Disney try and make it more dark for the last movie.. but still can be seen by Kids... i mean look at Revenge of the Sith, Return of the Jedi and especially Rogue One and Empire Strikes back, were we can have a darker tone to the movies.

Unlike Phantom Menace and The Last Jedi

MonsterZero- I don't see that as the case at all, I posted this on another fansite, but I'll repost it here as it highlights most of my problems with what they did to Luke, and why it makes no sense for that character to act that way.

Literally had 0 respect and understanding for Luke as a character and what he went through and accomplished in the OT. It's clear they made his story based on the 2 new leads Rey and Kylo and what they needed for their story rather than anything the character would do or act. Rey needs a disgruntled master so Luke gives up. Kylo needed to still be played between good and evil so a very ridiculous reason had to be made so you sympathized with his choice, so once again Luke gets thrown under to make this happen for the new character.

You have a character that is built on hope and never giving up on people, but he has no hope and gives up on people and the galaxy in general for no reason, when compared to what he has done and seen. You can't have a character stand before the Emperor who is the ultimate evil in the galaxy, then try to kill a sleeping boy because he has visions of a darkness he couldn't control. If anything this story would have been much better a few hundred years down the line, as another new jedi that has never seen the darkness Luke has might have gotten scared from seeing something in a student, but for Luke to do it doesn't make sense.

I'll just add my two cents. I'm actually one who enjoyed the movie. Only seen it once but plan on going again this Saturday.

Leia: Ok, sure the Mary Poppins thing was a bit weird. However, recalling back to episode 6 "The Return of the Jedi", I recall Like telling her she also possessed the ability of the Force and would be able to use it in time. This happens when they find out they are brother and sister. So I have to say it. It's Canon.

Luke: Ok, despite the change in his character, I think we all knew it was coming. What got me was how he was able to hologram himself to fight Kylo Ren. Probably the strongest way of the force to be used.

Porgs: Come on. Cute little guys.

Kylo Ren: Much like Vader. Whiny little baby. Well, to a sense, Anakin type whiner. Only difference is he is the new Sith Lord.

While I admit the pacing is far tooth-stretched, it was enjoyable for the most part. I think this is the change the franchise needed to stay fresh. But, I understand completely where all you die-hard fans are coming from. I'm not the biggest fan of Star Wars, but I do have to admit that The Last Jedi is my 45th favorite. Now, I'm not here to debate. I was simply expressing my opinion on the matter. I've read your alls comments and completely understand how you all feel.

Kylo Ren is far worse than Anakin on the whiny scale. Anakin tried to keep his composure most of the time, this guy just goes insane at every instance. He lacks the distinguished demeanor of Vader even when he dons the mask.

I'm really surprised people complained about the prequel acting, but don't complain about Kylo Ren's temper tantrums, clunky dialogue, and overpowered nature.

Good grief.

Luke as a character?

He's saved from death by Han Solo...allowing Luke to be the hero(thanks to Obi Wan)

His storybook princess turns out to be his sister. !? (and she has more backbone)

His father chopped his hand off...and he barely escapes with his life. Needs rescue.

His dad has to save him from death at the hands of the emperor. (real hero stuff Luke....he runs into battle like Kylo Ren)

Allows billions to die in TFA.

Would have been cool if Luke sliced the emperor in two while his dad held him above his head.

I'm not much for the plot or characters of Star Wars...that's secondary stuff for me.

Love the effects and the music of any Star Wars far more then story.

TLJ had amazing music and great 'splosions. Very well edited. cool wipes and nice sound effects.

Luke was the only character that I cared for in the movie, and of course Leia so those were my only reasons for watching this. I think that they had Chewbacca in it also but his role was so reduced so it almost did not count. I don't care for Rose, Rey, or what ever their names are, just forget it. F the next movie if they will not have Luke in it in any form. Hopefully they will not replace Luke by making the next one a Rey movie because that would suck, she is boring also. Sorry for sounding emotional but I am very dissatisfied that they eventually killed Luke. **** that ending

Kylo Ren is just a character that is whiny and that I just do not care about. This is not to over-react, I am sure that they want us to care about him but he is just whiny and boring.

Rey is over-powered and no I do not care about who her parents are, they could be senators and I wold not give a.

Nope, I will never watch this again just as with episode 1.

Well since you don't care about characters not sure Star Wars is the franchise for you, not sure why you listed those things as none are really relevant to his story or arc, and are viewed in a rather pessimistic way, that could almost all easily be turned into positives, on his behalf.

I can almost guarantee that Luke will make a force ghost appearance in ep 9

Lmao Ren never killed an entire tribe of people when he went on a tantrum.

He's never come across a tribe of people that tortured and killed his mother so not really sure what comparison you're trying to draw.

Kylo never *****ed and whined about sand.

He didn't have a horrible backstory where he was stuck on a desert planet as a slave. Once again not sure what comparison you're trying to draw, seems like it's comparing Anakin who is a totally different character with different experiences to Kylo.

Member2KDec-23-2017 1:51 PM

Kylo is literally just a spoiled brat.

Anakin killed the sand-people because his  mother died because of them, while Kylo killed his father to prove how dark he is...

Member2KDec-30-2017 10:40 AM

^This shows why Kylo Ren is a great villain IMO. But Kylo Ren isn't really whiny, he's more angry.

"Part of the journey is the end..."

GG

Member2KDec-31-2017 2:45 PM

How does killing his father to prove how dark he is make Kylo a great villain? Anakin killed the sand people because they literally TORTURED HIS MOTHER. Kylo has NO reason to be evil. He had a great upbringing we can imagine, and was sent off to train with LUKE SKYWALKER.

SERIOUSLY

Good grief.

Having just seen the Last Jedi, I must say that I did enjoy it. There were quite a few interesting points, but now might not be the best time to start a discussion about a spin of series based on Luke Skywalker’s summer camp massacre.

BTW can anyone recommend a good dip for Porg nuggets?

GG

Member2KDec-31-2017 5:42 PM

Still trying to find a way to understand how there are those who dislike Anakin for bad acting, but not Kylo Ren--and Adam Driver's overacting BS and poor dialogue.
