Looking for an old SciFi movie that has humans being converted to robots

Hi all,

I am looking for a movie I saw as a young boy about 20 something years ago (approximately...)

In the movie they had people being trapped in a machine were you'd see cables and stuff being laid on them eventually turning them into robots or something (against their will).

There were also small non-humanoid robots (small) accompaning humans.

I have no recollection of the plot and only the mental images of some scenes and trying to get this ghost of my past resolved. It has stayed with me all these years...

Any Ideas?
