MemberNeomorphAug-23-2017 8:46 AMwhy does the runner not grab any of the inmates and cocoon them? I get that we don't see any bodies but on film it seems like the runner is just killing the inmates rather than gathering them for the impending birth of the queen. or even if it was unaware of the existence of the queen larva, would it not do the same as the xeno in the directors cut of alien and begin the egg morphing process? as I say, u don't get to see much after it has grabbed an inmate but even when they are leading it to the metal works, it kills a few inmates rather than grab them and at this point it is aware of the queen ripley is carrying
also, would the queen, or for that matter any future drones accept the runner? are they similar to us in the manner that though the same species, they would become aggressive toward the runner due to its differences or would they accept they are just all the same species?

MemberTrilobiteAug-23-2017 11:20 AMI think the movie wanted to show the runner as a straight up killer since it came from a dog or ox depending on which cut we view. As far as the cocooning- maybe they are ignoring the Director's cut.
I don't know how different species of xenos would act toward each other.

MemberOvomorphAug-23-2017 1:14 PMSomeone feel free to jump in here but I believe Fincher was going to transform the assembly hall set into a cocoon chamber (and Ripley et al we're supposed to come across the superintendent and a few other prisoners - either transforming into eggs or plastered to the walls - waiting hosts for birth of the queen). FOX pulled the plug on the idea because it would have been too expensive... it was either in the script or in the novel as well (that I honestly can't remember).
Would have made a great scene - and for the record, I LOVE Alien 3... my favorite in the entire franchise. Yeah, I'm one of those guys. Fiorina for life :D

MemberTrilobiteAug-23-2017 1:18 PMspirit_light_speed You could be right- the movie was so plagued with issues it was almost surprising to come out all. I think the movie gets better with age.

MemberNeomorphAug-23-2017 2:03 PMI am actually in the middle of watching the bonus dvd of alien3 and they made no mention of visiting Giger. it seemed pretty early on that due to time restriction, the relationship between fox and Giger was at an all time low. Giger himse;f states he was faxing his concepts to the studio. but it would have been cool to see a cocoon scene

MemberNeomorphAug-23-2017 2:54 PMI know, for it to have been the original concept and we never see it in any detail.

ModeratorPraetorianAug-23-2017 2:59 PMcheck this one as well!!
Original plot ideas for Alien 3. not just the wooden planet one...
I remember reading the Anchorpoint script ages ago.. Written by a Cyberpunk author. It wasn't great.
Apparently Alien meets Blade Runner was very nearly a thing!!

MemberPraetorianAug-23-2017 2:59 PMFincher is one of my favourite directors. He should have directed a 4th Alien movie, not the 3rd one...

MemberTrilobiteAug-23-2017 3:02 PMFincher would be an interesting choice. Hopefully he isn't angry about the whole A3 mess anymore. I thought he did a great job.

MemberNeomorphAug-24-2017 6:56 AMMaybe they felt that it had been shown already so they ignored it? To me it seems like a serial killer in Alien 3 rather than a biological thing that cocoons its prey (if that makes sense). I don’t have any problem with the lack of cocoon in the movie.
“are they similar to us in the manner that though the same species, they would become aggressive toward the runner due to its differences or would they accept they are just all the same species?“
They are so far from humans so it wouldn’t surprise me they have a way of dealing with each-other that is far from how humans interact. I would like to keep that as something unknown.
