Who were your favourite characters in the movie?

Mine were Tennessee, Karine, Walter, Faris and Upworth.

They were all nice and likeable(except maybe Oram) but these were the ones that i hought were the more caring and nice.

Walter and Daniels. Some characters were barely noticeable except for roles in the Prologue.

David by a mile, all the others deserve to die.

I thought David would go without saying lol!

To be honest, they were all likable in my opinion. Yes, that includes Oram. What a horrible fate for a colony ship. I actually felt sorry for those that died.

But if I have to chose then it's David (and Shaw even though she is gone), followed by Walter and Daniels.

Oram seemed more likable after watching some deleted scenes.

Unfortunately most of the characters lacked specific character traits that made them stand out. It seems like the only characters that were given a thought or two were David and Walter but I think that they made an OK job with Oram. They should have fleshed out the human characters a lot more, I hope that this is a mistake that they have in mind for the next movie so it will be better.

Can someone make a list of the names of the characters and more exactly explain how they are as characters? To me most of them didn’t have their specific personality (patient, hysterical, serious, and so on). If someone can think of a character with at least tree traits that we are really shown as an audience then please let me know because I can’t think about many of them.

They must get these things right in the next movie or else the franchise will be fucked.

Walter.

I have a soft spot for androids in general, especially dutiful ones. I relate to them and I admire their loyalty to their companions despite always being among but not entirely "one of" the group.

Plus, while I'm always hoping for things to turn out well for them in the end, in the interim it's enjoyable to see misfortune befall them. Their stalwart disposition in the face of adversity is endearing and enviable.

I love how Walter, like Arjuna, aspires to be dispassionate and take action rightly renounced...but fails, as he secretly has feelings for Daniels.

I love the tragedy of Walter being the most selfless member of the crew and basically doing everything right but still winding up badly injured and abandoned by everyone he cared about.

Though deep down, I really really hope he finds a way off that planet and saves Daniels.

...I know that's unlikely...but I'm going to be super devastated otherwise. Like, seriously, guys. I will cry.

If Walter dies in Awakening and you hear someone quietly sobbing in the theater, that's me.

David, Tennessee, Lope, Walter, Daniels and Oram

Karine, Tennessee, and Loupe. I would like to have said Jussie Smollet, but, like many of the characters, he was underused to the point of feeling like he was the "token black guy" in the cast, sadly. Daniels was annoying and I simply could NOT buy her as the heroine, and her diction and whining was/is intolerable to me. She did not speak clearly and sounded unprofessional most of the movie.

@Starlogger

That's really interesting. Actually, I just watched Covenant last night, and I kept thinking...I really liked the way Daniels spoke. Her and Ferris.

They both sounded so much more like real, believable people. I like how she pronounces Covenant as "Cov'nant".

I mean...it just sounds real. It seems like there's a really limited array of dialects that people in Hollywood usually speak with, and they all either speak like college professors or stereotypical hicks.

Daniels and Ferris just talk like normal people with their own distinct mannerisms, who sound like they could be your own coworkers.

I think Waterston as Daniels was a mistake, like Bloom in Kingdom of Heaven and Edgerton in Exodus. She was no match for David, not even for Oram. She is a good actress, no doubt about that, but was miscast in Covenant.  I mean for whatever Daniels said the only reply she deserved was: "I'll put it in the log. You are dismissed. " She was too fragile and tired, her voice, although very expressive, was too soft and too nostalgic. You only feel that she wants everything to be over to get some sleep and forget about all, and that eventually did happen.

"He survived, he’s now in Disneyland in Orlando, and no way am I going back there. How did he end up in Disneyland? I saw him in Disneyland, Jesus Christ!"
