MemberChestbursterAug-07-2017 8:10 PMOn the blue ray of alien covenant, there is a commentary by ridley scott. during the scene were daniells tears the protomorph apart with the crane, ridley scott saise that the xenomorph can regenerate and regrow limbs! he saise that that xenomorph will eventually grow back together and reform on the planet.
first of all I think this is very interesting to say the least. wether this is a Good thing or a bad one, I am not so sure.
on the positive side of things, it gives us a completely new concept to the xenomorph. it also adds some more menace to the the xenomorphs that have sinse just become shoot um ups. if they can regenerate limbs and body parts when the marines or space pirates shoot them they are not actually getting killed. unless they are hit square in the head i hope. the thing is, we don't see them regenerate limbs in aliens or alien resurrection. perhaps this takes a while or mabye it is spicific to the protomorph. possibly because of its direct contact with the black goo rather than just inheriting it.
on the negatives:
if done sloppily the xenomorph could fall into b movie territory.
also this is just a bit out of knoweres.
do you have any thoughts about this new concept? do you generaly like or dislike the idea?

MemberChestbursterAug-07-2017 8:24 PManother negitive I forgot to mention is that it would be just a little bit unrealistic. if it could just sort of regrow limbs after they were torn off that would be like a gecko with there tails or a starfish with there limbs, but if ridley is saying that know matter how much damage it endures it will always just grow back, thats just unrealistic.

ModeratorPraetorianAug-07-2017 8:55 PMTimmy the ultramorph with respect, this exact topic has already been discussed.
Scott states the Alien can 'Re-Grow".
Please have a quick check of the More Alien: Covenant Topics before posting a new thread.

ModeratorPraetorianAug-07-2017 10:54 PMwhat about you Timmy the ultramorph did you ever play the Dead Space or Resident Evil series that both had regenerating enemies? If done well like you suggest they can be quiet terrifying.

MemberDeaconAug-08-2017 8:48 AMIndeed debated already....
I think maybe and as i stated on the other thread, it had been mentioned before the Xenomorph was intended to have a limited Life Span, and the Alien in the movie Alien had performed its task and was going to die.
I think the whole Re-grow is a bit Stupid, but we did see the Hammerpedes do this but i would assume this was the Black Goo Evolving a Regenerative capability of the Worms.
Regrowing does go against what we saw in most of the Franchise, but if RS says Eventually then its a Process that takes time.
I dont like the idea, i think yes having it be able to Regenerate small wounds would work as Ripley 8 could Regenerate. But getting crushed like the Xenomorph in AC i think to have this regrow would be a bit lame..
HOWEVER.... looking at the Organism as a Parasite and connected to a Pathogen, and looking at it being Engineered as a Weapon... and how before it was claimed the Xenomorph has a limited Life Span.
Then indeed i would propose that maybe.... when the Xenomorph outlives its natural Life Stage or is Killed.. its Genetic code, just starts to re-assemble to create a Egg. I think this would work.
And if this is a Engineered Weapon, then having them with a limited Life Span before they Die, and when killed... that there Body then breaks down and then grows into a Egg would certainly be a very good Trait to have as far as using them as a Weapon.

ModeratorPraetorianAug-08-2017 2:36 PMBigDave I liked that original idea about the xenomorph dying after securing the next-stage propagation of its species. Just like the battery acid blood theory...they just seem so incomprehensible and alien to us. Yet also very efficient!
I can't say im a huge fan of the regenerating xeno either, seems tacky. I point out Dead Space / RE because in those instances it works well, and they are intimidating enemies to combat. But given the already established traits of the xenomorph you're right I don't it works from a bio-weapon perspective.

MemberChestbursterAug-08-2017 9:36 PMif ridley decides to use this concept, it should just be for small ingurys like cuts. mabye to go as far to say that is a hand is cut of, it will eventually grow back.

MemberChestbursterAug-09-2017 9:02 PMI have not listened to the commentary yet, but the fact that organisms created by/modified by the pathogen can regenerate was already established in Prometheus.

MemberChestbursterAug-11-2017 1:34 PMI thought that was just because it was a worm but I guess you are right.
