We never did get an explanation as to why there was only one living engineer on lv223. Lv 223 had more ships with more engineers i assume. So there were multiple breakouts or that sole breakout wiped out everyone on there?

Why did that lone engineer survive? Did he cause a sabotage? Why has nobody checked on what happened to those engineers in 2k years?

I am afraid we will never know since scott just got rid of all of them in one of the biggest cop outs in movie history.

thoughts?

Is there an agenda the mods are not telling us about? ;)

Interesting question, but I'm also sure, we will never know the answers.

When I watched the Prometheus, i thought, there isn't just one Engineer. Some of them survived and they are sleeping in the pods. They were enough fast to escape from the infection... Then nobody wakes  them up, so sooner or later they will die. But you mentioned above a sabotage... Could be, why not. In that case a new path of interpretation come up. I don't want to make a theory about that, just some adds: this Engineer didn't symphatised with humans, but at least he listened to them, listen to their story (in the extended version). Also in the extended version this guy is interested in our culture a bit (as I saw it, he looked at the books, listened to the violin girl a bit etc., but of course, there comes the fighting scene with Shaw, so they don't communicate so much... :)

What do you think, why did he/they make a sabotage?

Why has nobody checked on what happened there? I think they checked. Maybe they read that holograms, what the Prometheus crew also saw. Well, I think, they thought lv 223 is a danger zone, later they will go back, when the planet's fauna is absolutely extint. At least I explained this thing to myself in this way.  I was sure, the Engineers had a lot of project, so they postponed the Earth project. But if this was a sabotage, maybe the answer isn't that easy.

I agree there's an awful lot of questions still left from Prometheus and LV-223 etc. but I'm not so sure we should jump to hasty conclusions yet that RS killed off all the Engineers left in the universe, just those dwelling on that very well hidden paradise like world. I think that world is possibly where they plucked the Sacrificial Engineers from for seeding new worlds like we see at the beginning of Prometheus.

There could be many groups of Engineers left in various parts of the universe and Humans are more dangerous now than they ever were 2000ish years ago, especially now that humans creation (David) is playing god and causing complete chaos so if there are any Engineers left who catch wind of these events I think we're in for fireworks.

I think another batch of LV-223 type Engineers could be set for a comeback in the next film if RS can convince FOX he has the right story, and Covenant makes enough money.

Cue war between Humans, David, Engineers and Xenos ending possibly with an Engineer making a dash for it with the derelict and the Xeno Eggs to destroy humans once and for all but encountering some issues forcing a put down on LV-426. Or something possibly to that effect.

Even if some of the questions from Prometheus remain unanswered such as the ones you posed here, we may get some more insight into the Engineers if they return to the story in a similar fashion to this and we may feel slightly satisfied with that.

This is a very very good point.

One that some was hoping to get answers for, but alas we shall never know what happened and why.

Firstly the Sabotage theory is something i came too as well a long time ago and the deleted Scenes helped me to ponder this Question... where i felt the Last Engineer maybe felt Mankind did not have to be destroyed and so he Sabotaged the mission, but after he was woken up and found Mankind had managed to find this place and build AI that can communicate and use Engineer Technology, the Engineer saw how Weyland had been acting and realized that Mankind indeed are Cruel and Selfish and now they can travel the Stars and have created Artificial Life that can use the Engineers Technology... The Last Engineer Realized that he has not choice but to carry on with the intended Mission and Destroy Mankind as we are NOW a serious threat and so his Brothers was correct.

I believe the other engineers all disembarked from their ships and while loading their cargo there was the outbreak/attack we see in the hologram. the holes in the cryo pods seems to suggest the others were victims of chestbursters. there doesn't seem to be any concrete explanation for the last engineer. he certainly didn't appear to be someone who had witnessed the events that took place at the facility, he looked more puzzled than anything. as BD says, to his knowledge the last orders were they were going to destroy mankind so he was going to carry out those orders and the fact that humans were on lv223 may have reinforced his belief mankind was straying and becoming a threat

the Theatrical Cut however, and how RS made comments paints a different story that these Engineers did Totally want to Destroy us, and so indeed Outbreak had occurred 2000 years ago that killed nearly all of them off.

We dont know how this happened, but we can assume Janeks deleted Scene about having to Nuke a Facility on Earth because some Scientist Split something.. i feel is a direct clue that something Accidental had got out of hand on LV-223

So its just Coincidence the Last Engineer survived.

We do-not know if there was any more Survivors, so this part is pretty much open for debate.... There was a Total of at least 5 Complexes and it appears each has at least ONE Juggernaught but there could be up to 4 for each Complex

David informs Shaw there are many more Engineer Ships, and to me Many means more than just 4 more, many would imply to me 8+ but its all down to interpretation...  Looking at Prometheus in detail i have worked out each Complex had at least TWO Hangers

At the End of Prometheus Shaw was carrying Davids body and head towards the other Temple Complexes, but the Prologue Video shows us Shaws hair has grown at least 6 Months worth and so its likely she was stranded on LV-223 while she was pondering putting David back together.

So the Questions are...

1) Was there more Engineers in those other Temples that are in Cryo-sleep, because if there was and Dr Shaw had known about this, then surely she would get David together and wake one up to ask Questions?  But this is risky, maybe Shaw feels that getting to their Home-world would provide more Guaranteed Answers.

If Shaw does not know about any Engineers but David does, then after Dr Shaw is in Cryo-sleep David is free to go and investigate the other Temples and even Quiz a Engineer then unleash the Black Goo on them.... this would give David those answers... as the Prologue said he found out the Engineers ways, after he had put Shaw in Cryo-sleep and what David found out certainly was upsetting and certainly made him 100% sure that he had to destroy them as soon as he could.

2) Was the Outbreak confined to just One Outpost... it would seem very odd for a Accidental Outbreak/Spillage to go and infect the Engineers of the other Complexes, but this is something we dont know about as we have no idea what those other Complexes are like... or if there are bodies there too.

The Complex the Crew found in Prometheus had between 16-20 bodies pilled outside that one Door, we see there was the One Dead Decapitated Engineer and i think i recall about 7-9 Engineers had entered the Big Head Room..

We have 3 Chest Busted Engineers on the Juggernaught and ONE Survivor

So there was between 28-34 Engineers in that Complex, that seems a awful lot for one Complex if we assume its 4 Engineers per Ship..

Plus we have to ask what happened to those who made it into the Room?  From Prometheus i could make out another Hanger near the First Complex so maybe they had gone to that Ship... well at least some had.

so yes its a real puzzle as to what happened, and pretty much open to debate.

The only Logical Explanation, well one Explanation is the Sabotage Route.... That before they set off on their Missions, they was all called to go to that One Outpost to have maybe a Celebration Drink... like the Last Supper Prologue

A Toast... where the Engineers all congregated in that Complex, to Toast to their Mission and then they would be off to the other Complexes to get onto their Ships...  But they had their Drinks Spiked by a Saboteur....  Maybe the Last Engineer.

We cant rule out others who escaped and then left LV-223 and we dont know what became of them, was they infected?

But i feel after this Outbreak and especially if the Hierarchy/Other Engineers know about the LV-223 Outbreak... then it would be likely they abandoned this Place.

The drafts gave a better explanation as it showed the Hologram scene the Engineers where Calm going about their business to prepare for the Mission, then fast forwards and there was just One Engineer running around Panicked and he went into the Cryo-Pod.

So something went down, and the Surviving Engineer was in a panic and headed to get into Cryo-sleep.

"And he pushes it forward. Now, the GHOSTS are just BLURS --
FLYING AROUND THE ROOM -- Sometimes there are MORE, sometimes
LESS, sometimes NONE -- God knows how many years he is
ZIPPING THROUGH -- How many CENTURIES -- But David’s advanced
system seems to be tracking it ALL until --
He EASES up on the control -- Bringing things back to NORMAL
SPEED. And instead of six fairly relaxed Engineers?
There is only ONE.
And he is clearly PANICKED. RUSHING ACROSS THE ROOM in FEAR,
leaving the main CONTROL AREA and into a CORRIDOR"

where can I find this draft BD? to me though the engineer didn't seem too bothered about anything when he emerged from cryo. he just didn't seem to display any signs that hed just been through an ordeal like that. remember to him it would have been moments since hed gone through it to then waking up

I was thinking about this today as well!  I had the thought that we had worshipped the Engineers at one point & time on Earth.  The higher beings found out, were not happy with the Engineers, & sent Jesus to us to help us change our ways but we crucified him.  The Engineers were not the true GOD & tried to act as such.  We turned from them & they wanted to kill us all.  The higher beings who sent Jesus, made the black goo erupt at their facility on LV-223 & ended them.

Here is the Draft  Paradise

The Space Jesus was considered but was too much on the nose, and we need to remember there is no such thing as Space Jesus or Space GOD of the Bible in the Franchise, GOD and Jesus are just interpretations of the Engineers that formed many of the old Mythos and Religions.

And so in context to the Franchise, Jesus would be a Emissary sent down to guide and watch over us, maybe this is where those Paradise Engineers come in... they are a different Sect/Hybrids that are different to the LV-223 Engineers.

And so one of those beings or a number could have been sent down to watch how Mankind has started to loose their way, and well we Sacrificed/Killed a number of them.

Maybe some Emissaries survived on other continents like the South Americans and Pacific and would explain the latter Star Maps after 2000 years ago... as these Cultures had not quite lost their way to the Influences of what Mankind around the Roman Empire had been doing...

Today a evolution of these concepts is what we have... Mankind have adapted a different approach to Religion, Sacrifice and Culture even as far as more Native Islands are concerned (Polynesian)

Compared to how different Society around the World was thousands of years ago.

Most were killed by the mutagen black goo that got loose.  There may have been other Engineers in hypersleep aboard other craft that may have been stored at the facility, but that was never part of the movie.  If there were others in hypersleep, some or all may have died because they were in it for too long, or the sleep equipment failed.
