The participants of AVP galaxy's latest lengthy podcast (3 plus hours!) weighed in on the flaws and achievements of "Alien Covenant", while expressing their disappointment over Ridley Scott's blunt dismissal of the Alien lore and his persistence with repeating the same mistakes from "Prometheus". Stressing the fact that Ridley does not like to read reviews (making him oblivious of any criticism), the panelists reflected on why Scott, who is not a writer, should not meddle with the screenplays; they brought up anecdotes about the times when a producer or the studios had to reject some of his most outlandish ideas, from having the villain of "Legend" rape the female lead, to killing off Ripley in the first "Alien" movie. Another interesting aspect was the analysis of the technical aspects of the film; it was mentioned that "Covenant" was one of the first movies where 3D printing has been extensively used to create the set and the props, and that in many respects the film was a learning process on a technical level. The opinions ranged from describing "Covenant" as a rehash of old tropes, to franchise filler and soft reboot of the series. Finally they expressed their frustration that 20th century Fox chose not to produce both "Covenant" and Blomkamp's sequel simultaneously, with some of them suggesting that future installments might opt to drop the prequels' lore altogether to persue their own take on the franchise.

When Ridley made Alien, he treated like his baby. Now he is making ten movies at a time and has a cast of thousands working for him. That there is the problem. Too many people involved. Diluted and ruined themes and too many changes...... Just like Prometheus's breath taking original script, ruined by re writes. I'm just really fucking disappointed.

I'll give this franchise one chance, the talked-about sequel to Covenant.

But it better be damned good or I'm washing my hands of the franchise and focussing on fan-based works where the true love of the franchise lives.

IN SPACE THERE IS NO WARNING

I like it. But most people expected an aliens-style flick I guess. So glad they didn't get it.

There's so much to like about Covenant. And even though it's better than Alien on so many levels, it just lacks a little polish and passion. But that's fine by me.

It's impossible to know, franchises can always be saved or thrown deeper into the hole. I personally didn't LOVE Covenant, but I also didn't think it was necessarily bad. Some deleted scenes I do wish were in the movie, and "the last supper" prologue SHOULD'VE  been in the movie. That simple scene would've made us care about the characters that were killed and not just be confused all the time trynna figure out who is who's partner and whatnot.

I think it's safe to say 90% of Alien fans are just hoping for Ridley Scott not to pull a George Lucas on us.
