Hi guys, I have a question and hope you guys can answer. In prometheus, few crews was infected by the black goo, and they transformed to be zombie like creature. My question is how come in Covenant, after the crew was infected by black goo, they had a small alien-liked creature bursting out of them? Thanks!

What infected the Covenant crew wasn't the goo but spores.

The spores are produced by egg sacks. Egg sacks are a result of David infecting the environment of the planet with the goo.

Hope this helps.

Where did that information come from Edgy Name? is it Official i.e taken from a Book or Fan Made?

From what i can see to answer the OP....

I will assume after the Juggernaught Crashed onto the Hillside that had Water Streaming down it, some of the Urns in the Cargo Hold that had not been Primed/Weaponized for Bombardment..  had leaked into/fell into the Water and infected the Water, or overtime some left over Urns in the Cargo Hold infected the Water... (most likely the last point)

Overtime the Stagnant Water would lead to Moss, and Mold and thus Spores that are then infected by the Black Goo to create those Spores we see in the movie.

The Spores Release a Hybrid Fungi/Mold Spores that are infected with the Black Goo DNA.... these Spores then bury into a Hosts Blood Stream and start to fuse together and take DNA from the Host that allows these Spores to then start to merge and divide and start to take on the Hosts DNA to create a Hybrid Creature that then grows and bursts out of the Host.

But i guess when the books of concept art comes out we may get a better idea.... as the other option is David created these and then they just spread out over the landscape.

Yes I think that's pretty dead on.

I've come to think the pathogen will transform whatever it infects (whether that involves fully breaking down the infected or simply altering them.)

In either situation it would seem that once an organism is infected, the goo changes it's role and the infected organism then gains the ability to impregnate another organism with a creature which will eventually erupt from the second organism.

It seems hijacking the reproductive system is the common first step, almost as if the pathogen intends to evolve through assimilating whatever it can. But it will not create a hybrid organism with just one host. It must turn the first organism into a delivery system that will find another host to reproduce with.

I could be completely off on this but, so far that seems to be the way of it.

Does anyone else think the Black Goo is too much of a "Magic Bullet". There is no defined law or rules governing it. It is basically a blank slate plot device.....

Thanks for the answer!

so can we assume these spores also infected all the animals on planet paradise? Do alien pop out of these animals as well?

How come there isn't more aliens on that planet?
