It seems we will never be happy

In short, we're no different from any other interest group. Humans are never 100% happy, such is life.

True, it is that and Scified is VASTLY better than so many other places! :)

But we all need to keep in mind, that as an example, not everybody loves Gone With The Wind, Wizard of Oz, etc..

Same is true of every movie/book/tv show since the first cave paintings :)

dk Why then I  love "Mad Max Fury Road", a sequel that I never asked for in the first place. Good movie making will never go out out of fashion. Covenant is just lackluster both conceptually and aesthetically.

I think there's a difference between being happy and seeing the perfect movie. As you highlighted with Godzilla, there are plenty of films I enjoy and am happy I saw, but if you asked me if there was anything I disliked or thought was wrong I could easily name them. 

It comes down to what you're looking for in the movie, and how the movie's tone is. I find myself much more critical of things like Prometheus, the Nolan batman trilogy, and G14 because those movies seem to take themselves seriously, while different movies like Kong: Skull Island, Batman & Robin, and to some degree A:C seem to know there's no need to try to cover what they are, thus I don't look at the movie with such a microscope.

this is why i joined this forum the other day lol I got sick and tired of posting on various Alien youtube videos because the comments section is just mad sometimes haha your lucky to end up in a conversation with a like-minded fan, most of the time you end up in an argument or have people mock you for writing long posts...

I've had my opinion flipped on so many things in my 50+ years it's hard to trust myself!

Growing up in the 70's, I'd listen to my favorite rock band's last album every day....Then they would release their new album...I'd rush down to the store buy it....get home play it....and it would SUCK! big time! AWFUL....I'd seriously think about taking it back(they won't take back an opened album).....I wouldn't play the god awful thing for a week..then maybe a couple songs off it....then maybe a side..then maybe the whole album...It's actually wasn't THAT bad! Just different...kinda grows on you...play it a little more...it's actually kinda good...play a little more...WOW! It's actually much better then their last album!! In fact it's one the greatest albums evar!!

Done this 'cycle' with books, movies, women you name it.

Yup. Everyone I know who didn't walk in with expectations loved the movie. We most certainly got carried away to a degree here, though it all has been and continues to be a lot of fun. 

might as well moan at something we love.

a:c has grown on me though.  first watch i was totally dismayed at the lack of reveals. the movie is ok and i chose to watch it over anything else the last few nights, it just could of been so much more if they had just given us a few answers. thats all it needed for me. just a few reveals on the fresco the elders, anything. just something. 

if that had happened i would of walked out aafter the first watch and been mesmerised.

but as it stands its just an average action flick that happens to be in a universe i adore.

yet my feelings would be so different if we got some of those precious answers.

so i probably am never gonna be happy.  although that does depend on what we get.

ill watch a:c again tonight though ;)

I'm really hoping a directors cut of AC will take care of this for us. I feel the exact same way. 2 minutes of the David commentary about the engineers that we get in the book would have been more than enough.

The reason why I enjoy Prometheus and Covenant is because I didn't expect answers as I just expect more questions. Sure both do give some answers but a lot is still left up to interpretation.

It's hard to disappoint someone like me but I know every movie isn't perfect.

i know - its fine margins,  i think most of us are quite grounded and would be happy with just some of the things we expected and waited for.

were not expecting a classic. we want a balance. seems fair to me.

BTW!!!!  you mentioned answers about Engineers in the book. What book? My pre order is not until June?(i aint got it yet)  Have you read it?  

I love both Prometheus and AC. They may not be considered as classic but it definitely opens up a whole new universe with the same Alien timeline, which I am very happy about it. Apart from Star Wars, I don't see any other Sci-Fi franchise is as big as Alien. 

Remember, there are reasons why David wants us all extinct. I think we have come across one of them.

@Im durp well said. This movie was for the masses, and Ridley has said so many times. See what happens when we all piss and moan too much? (not that I HATED this movie by any means, I rather liked it, but if you didn't, then reexamine if you protested Prometheus or not) The reactions to Prometheus are EXACTLY why we got EXACTLY this movie.

Hell, I think David may actually be Ridley's catharsis. He probably thinks we all deserve to be extinct.

MonsterZero I am the same way about music and probably about your age. New music seems to suck at first but grows on me eventually. If I like it the first go around, I usually tire of it quicker. If it grows on me, it tends to last. It is a bit different for movies since I always have music going but don't always have time to sit down to watch movies. Prometheus was an example of repeated views and still didn't like it. Go figure.

QueenElizabethShaw I hope for a director's cut too although RS seems to not be keen on them. I am holding off on viewing and figure by the time I see it, my expectations will have leveled out and maybe can be enjoyed more.
