Alien Covenant was not a sequel of Prometheus 2, it was just a generic thriller/horror movie, with almost 0 lore and some really superficial prometheus themes.

So i would like to ask, since Ridley made Covenant cuz of fans bitching about Prometheus not beeing an Alien movie , wich it shouldn't be and thank god for that, cuz The Engineers are 1000x times more interesting then the alien buggs, same goes for David, the first artificial life in the series that actually turns conscient, to explore what is conscience and so on , and on, i could write 2 pages about how brilliant Prometheus was.

Can someone make or point me to a petition for Prometheus 2?

Bellow is a brilliant review of alient covenant from imdb:

Prometheus is one of the most underrated and misunderstood science fiction movies in recent memory. Do NOT view this as a prequel to Alien. It is part of the same universe, but while the first 4 are action/horror films, Prometheus is a sci-fi adventure that explores the origins of mankind. This concept is something I've always wanted to see put to screen, and Prometheus delivers so well that I'm enthralled by it no matter how many times I watch it. The cinematography and score are Oscar worthy, and the direction and visuals are near perfect. I believe Prometheus would be much higher rated if more people went into it with an open mind. The first Alien did have mixed reviews upon initial release, and now it is an all time classic. I really think that one day Prometheus will have the same status, and I hope the sequels are more appreciated.

I totally agree with you. The engineers were the most compelling aspect of these prequels, yet Ridley butchered and discarded of them in A:C. WTF, man?

Just watched Prometheus again last night for a fresh prospective. i have to admit I enjoyed it and some of the things in covenant just override what was done in Prometheus. If Ridley still goes off what was done in Prometheus then I still think we have more to learn and that David was not the original creator of the aliens but more he has tinkered with it. Also those engineers on that planet are not the engineers we know.

Yes we definitely need a film which takes place between the events of Prometheus and Alien Covenant! There is so much that has to be told after Prometheus.

I have a dream that they will one day use CGI to remake a couple of scenes from the movie and make it perfect. I've seen Prometheus over 30 times. I just ignore certain scenes an it becomes my all time favorite movie

Agreed. I hate how Ridley Scott changed his mind and went with Alien path instead of Engineers plot for sequel. There are so many unanswered questions involving Dr. Shaw and David. Why in the hell did David kill the engineers?! Why did David even kill Shaw?! We need a spinoff movie explaining their journey to Engineers homeworld and actually see what happened to Shaw!

Scott is keeping the whole Engineers story in the bag - so as to make more money from it in the future. I just think many fans are upset David created the Xenomorph - but many more - such as myself are ecstatic that he did.

In my opinion Prometheus was a mess. It is quite unique in that the director, writers and producers can't really explain what is going on in the opening scene no matter how hard they try. It goes against evolution and basic science - where as everything else in the Alien universe - the viewer is willing to give the benefit of the doubt - such as alien blood being acid and so on..

the opening scene in Prometheus makes perfect sense, seeding new worlds makes perfect sense, what are you talking about?

It s called panspermia, google it.

MemberOvomorphMay-21-2017 4:55 AM

Of course seeding planets makes sense. However the context of the whole film is that Engineers built humans and this scene has nothing to do with that and thus adds to the confusion. Even Scott is annoyed at the scene and got audibly annoyed that fans assumed the opening scene takes place on earth.

It is not good to start a film with a confused premise. On the plus Scott has shown clear regrets over Prometheus - so we have to be mature and admit people mistakes - and move on.

I thought the first scene was about the DNA of that Engineer being the beginning of humans. I never believed they intentionally made humans and were pissed off when they found out about us because we are an abomination to them (like how the Predators view Predaliens).

MemberOvomorphMay-21-2017 6:09 AM

@JPFFL That is why the scene is misleading - and the writers, Scott and everyone else connected with the film is lost on the scene's meaning. Even if that was supposed to be Earth - which Scott says it is not - the sacrifice scene as it stands would not lead to the evolution of a human species that matches perfectly with the DNA of Engineers.

Ridley regrets nothing, Wonder Boy.  It's a bunch of crap.  He just wants the Alien franchise to be HUUUGE (said as much himself) and he was just pissed that half the fans didn't like it because it didn't have Xenos and so he basically sold out.  That's it.  If it wasn't for fan whining I can't see him ever sayinge made a mistake.  He's a weak old man who should have stuck to his vision like a stubborn ass visionary does.  He's lost his mojo, but I guess hat comes with old age.  Like impotence.

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion.  I watched Androids blow and finger each other's flutes.

I will sign anything you throw at me to petition Ridley to make a sequel to Prometheus! I loved Prometheus and desperately wanted to see a continuation of David and Elizabeth's story. My huge frustration with the AC was that we got NO answers about them at all! Show me a petition and I will sign it!

I know this might be offtopic, but did you compare the landscape scenes from A:Prometheus (Earthlike landscape in the beginning) with the landscape scenes from A:Covenant (Planet 4).

The shots, camerawork and the landscape looks exactly the same, even the sea and waterfall are exactly the same.

This leads to my theory, that the opening scene of Prometheus wasn't earth and didn't show the beginning of life on earth.
I rather think that the real engineers brought life to Planet 4 and probably used human DNA and their own DNA to create a mixture of engineers and humans.

Which is a result of the fact, that these "engineers" on Planet 4 were smaller, had white eyes, had females/children and looked like they would normally age.
In return the original engineers had black eyes, perfectly white skin and were giants!

Okay... I went twice Thursday evening. I enjoyed the film immensely even if it does have flaws. I must say that I was able to relax and appreciate it much easier the second time (my anticipation and nerves were so high, I was dying waiting to see it).

I do feel as though the Xeno was thrown in to appease fans and boost margins while we did get a pseudo-sequel to Prometheus (potentially my favorite movie of all-time). I think it would've been fantastic to have let David create the Neos and leave it at that. That being said, I don't think we have to mourn the future of the franchise just yet.

I don't recall which event it was from the press run, but I remember Waterston cutting Ridley off when he was asked about the future of the franchise and began chronologically listing the films when he placed "Awakening" before "Covenant". This would explain why the second prologue of Shaw and David's journey was excluded from the film. I SERIOUSLY doubt Ridley would risk his reputation in a return to the franchise (containing the classic beast, no less) unless he had a fairly rock solid plan regarding the story that was developed and cosigned with a braintrust.

Regarding the Alien evolution/creation origins:

As has been discussed, if David is the true creator (for the record, in my opinion he seemed vague when pressed by Oram as to whether his creations were from inspiration or in copy-cat fashion) then how does that fit into the timeline? If Covenant is 20 years before Alien, then as Dallas comments to Kane and Lambert, how has the Space Jockey become fossilized? Did David preserve or alter it? That's my main worry currently.

To finish up a final thought on Covenant, I like what Ridley was trying to do, continue philosophical elements and story from Prometheus and bridge toward Alien, but the execution may have been off. HOWEVER, if he does intend to have "Awakening" precede Covenant, which actually the title could imply, then we might have something really special on our hands.

the opening scene of Prometheus is not Earth, but the planet David arrives in Covenant and bombards.

Pretty obvious after watching Covenant.

I agree, and if true, that lends credence to the theory that the "engineers" in A:C are, in fact, not the same type engineer we saw in Prometheus.

splatterpunk -

Assuming I am the Prometheus fanboy, i am, to which you are referring. I am ok with criticisms for that film, say what you will. I must clarify, however, that the reason for my post and concerns is for continuity within the franchise (includes Prometheus). The series needs to continue to build this to develop further credence in order to justify continued entries.

Prometheus brought fresh air in the Alien brand. I hoped it would be expanded but A:C was a major blocker in this regard jsut a recycled Alien Horror/Action theme we already know.

Comon Ridley be open for new fresh ideas!

Here you go! You can find a petition here at Change.org...

https://www.change.org/p/ridely-scott-prometheus-fans-demand-a-sequel?recruiter=74969119&utm_source=share_petition&utm_medium=copylink&utm_campaign=share_petition

I urge anyone that wants to see a Prometheus 2 to sign this. The more signatures we get, the greater the chances that Fox and Scott will take notice.

"This concept is something I've always wanted to see put to screen"

I guess he never heard of a little movie called 2001... or Mission to Mars... or the original Battlestar Galactica ("there are those who believe that life here...began out there...")

I am one of the few who actually enjoyed both Prometheus and AC but I think many are wrongly blaming RS for eliminating Shaw. i loved the char and possible storylines but looking at the IMDB profile Of Noomi Rapace she seems to have a full plate , is it possible that she simply was not available for that bigger storyline ?

I am against any return of Ripley or the supposed movie between Prom-AC .
