MemberPraetorianMay-12-2017 3:45 PMThe Nostromo was constructed in 2101 as an interstellar cruiser, but was refitted in 2116 as a commercial towing vehicle. The ship was subsequently operated as a commercial hauler, transporting automated ore and oil refineries between outer colonies and Earth.
It set down on LV-426 on June 3, 2122
-Aliens: Colonial Marines Technical Manual, p. 135
As it was returning to Earth when the events of Alien went down and we know it was refitted in 2116 (presumably on Earth) that would give a final launch date anywhere between 2116 and 2122.
A:C took place in 2104
18 years before Alien
12 years before the earliest date the Nostromo could have left Earth.

MemberFacehuggerMay-12-2017 4:48 PMexcellent info iRaptus cheers mate, i wonder if there was multiple refinery platforms? interchanged with other tugs? guess there would be.

MemberPraetorianMay-12-2017 5:34 PMThank You airshaft_surprise
I cant find any more info on the refinery platforms but the Nostromo was a "Lockmart CM-88B Bison - an M-Class starfreighter used as both an interstellar cruiser and a deep space cargo transport. In the latter role, the CM-88B operated as a tug, connecting to and pulling loads like a tractor truck rather than carrying those loads on board like a traditional freighter.
The Book Alien: Out of the Shadows also mentions at least one Orbital Mining Vessel on LV-178 owned and operated by a subsidiary company of W-Y.
So you'd have to think there were multiple operations and platform out there.

MemberPraetorianMay-12-2017 5:39 PMThere'd have to be more than one Processing Barge, really. It's just logical, right?
IN SPACE THERE IS NO WARNING

MemberPraetorianMay-13-2017 2:34 AMYour welcome Sunilbkalgutkar
Blackwinter-witch You'd have to think so, too much riding on one platform seems silly. Also, there a tonne of dead planets out there for a harvesting. I imagine they would work in conjunction with something like Dead Space's Ishimura Planet Cracker ships.
Blackwinter Witch if you want some fantastic inspiration for concept designs have a look at Dead Space. The atmosphere and "feel" of that franchise is very similar
