This topic is meant for those who couldnt help themselves and watched the leaked 10min footage of the sneak peek.

So spoilers ahead..

________________________________________________

Also I want to lay aside the arguments we used to have here shortly, so no sarcasm intented.

Overall I must say I am impressed by what we got to see in the 10minutes of footage - except for the (baby)neomorphs design and especially its behaviour. Way too animalistic and hyperactive. The movement has strong resemblance of a monkey or macaque thats attacking or fleeing (look it up and compare no joke lol)

Ofcourse thats not really a big deal and still makes a terrifying monster - but:

Do we really want the Alien and its relatives to be more animal than humanoid spawned demons? The Neomorphs and Proto/Xenomorph we got to see in the trailers and footage thus far all walked on their 4 legs, extremely fast and animalistic in motion.

I have the increasing concern, that this design choice of animal like Aliens had to be made for box office reasons.

The asian market, esply. the chinese, has some regulations for (horror)creatures and what not. I dont know the cultural or political reasons for this but its a fact. For example in video games such as mmorpgs the monsters like sceletons, undead, abominations, zombies and other humanoid baddies have to be altered (to look more like humans&animals and without visible bones/intestines etc.) to get censorship approval for the chinese market.

Also I cant imagine Ridley deciding to use this kind of pretty ordinarily behaviour for his creatures just by himself. The artworks and unused Prometheus artworks for neomorphs and deacon -like creatures all had them looking way more humanoid and undefinable than what the back- and throatbursters looked and moved like.

Remember the Alien back then used to lurk, stand, crouch, float down chains, just lay there in between some pipes, or just drop from the ceiling and erect almost in slow motion which all was way scarier and outlandish than running and jumping space monkeys..

But thats just a concern for a possible incoming disappointment, we have to wait for the movie luckily.

IF - I get what you are saying. I had the same feeling of seeing a cracked out space lemur attacking Carmen.  That whole scene with the backburster was gut wrenching but the thing jumps at Carmen and just lays there holding her knife in mid air doing nothing.  Man I'd be gutting me a neo from the side if that b*tch is on me.  I'm also thinking that when the Neo is born the fight/flight response is automatic until it gets bigger and it loses its napoleon complex.  Then I think its gets a lot more lurker'ish like original.

Overall good post keep it up

In the words of Pearl Jam: "It's Evolution, Baby..."

Although my complaint wasn't about the animalistic movement per se, mine was more about how the movement "LOOKED" on screen. It seemed a little bit fake and "video gamey", but I'm hoping that sort of thing will be fixed by the time the film is released, although we're getting close to THAT date (thank God!). It won't ruin the movie for me, as I know you can't please EVERYBODY, but...anyways...my 2 cents.

SLog - I didnt see it being too video gameish.  Re-run the part where Carmen kicked the little Focker across the room the first time.  I can kind of see it when it took a "stance" before charging.  That is completely game'ish.  No creature is going to telegraph its opening move, it just does it.

@ Inquisitor Fifield, A very interesting topic of discussion, and one which could have some big implications.

I think that there are a wide variety of issues that can be raised here which can look at the cross examination of what makes an acceptable film for the Chinese market. If you look at every stage in the production of a movie, there are points that can flag up from, script, concept creature design and many other aspects that might not get through Chinese censorship.

It is certainly the case that what a movie takes on opening night in Hollywood, is not an automatic reflection of what is taken globally.

I think things should be taken as a whole. Why sacrifice creativity for the sake of one market, at the expense of losing what may be the more profitable alternative? In the case of the Alien franchise I think tampering with the creative elements that we know work would be fatal to the franchise. In other words, do not kill the goose that lays the eggs. I’m sure there will be some accountants somewhere who will have looked at potential profits, if all the right markets have been exploited.

As I see it, if China wants to ban something, it will find an excuse, one way or another. If China wants to ban something , it will do it, end of.

All I really want to know is if the invisible mouth chap is simply a variant, or an end stage of the actual monkey fellows we watched.  I really don't care or look down on the presentation of the behavior of the young, as long as they become more menacing later. The slowish removal of the mouth membrane could possibly be a good sign, yeah?

IASU - Have you see the stills we took from the Neo once it is full grown and kills Rosenthal?  It has a thin line smile before it opens up like a gulper eel and takes a huge chunk out of you.

hard to tell with the quality of the footage, but i think the throatburster looked and ran slightly different than the backb.

I could imagine they all are and turn out different and imperfect or even defective (by xenomorph standards) somehow.

Sidenote; wth was Orams girl thinking when she tried to hug and comfort the shaking pale as dead fella with something erupting in his back just like that? :D

LMAO....I think one of the spikes nailed her in the hand right before she flipped out.  I agree.....now what's your take on Walter just sitting there like a chump going uh wtf just happened?

Inquisitor Fifield

MemberFacehuggerApr-27-2017 6:44 PM

well either Walter really just is a working tool deprived of all understanding for emotions and personal will or judgement and waiting for orders of a human around, or he may be up to something 'weyland-yutanish' or even 'special order 937ish'?

The concerns about neomorph being to much monkey like and jumping around is (hopefully) based around it being just born and still a tiny baby morph.

Real human Babies or especially younglings, kids are much more active and fast moving compared to grown ups or adults. Kids do have a kinda spastic uncontrolled behavior of sorts sometimes. Especially their more or less constantly moving extensions arms and legs.

I think and do hope when the neomorph is grown in size it will more or less walk on two feets and will be much more sneaky and controlled over its behavior and movement.

I also think we have effidence for that. In one of the trailers with the neomorph attacking the woman from behind it firstly sneaked up to its prey. Than attacked her in upright position.

We don't know what potential pools of DNA the Neomorphs are pulling from. There may be a good reason why they move so frenetically.

Starlogger

MemberChestbursterApr-28-2017 7:10 AM

@auximenes you are correct, but I'm hoping they iron out those movements a bit. They look a little too "Alien 3-ish" in the way they "flitter" instead of gracefully move. But again, I'm being pretty picky here. Love it overall in so many ways!

@Rick - I am with you. While watching the clip I was thinking "Why is she just laying there? Get up and stomp that thing!" It is understandable that witnessing something that traumatic (especially if it happened to someone you are close to) that she would be in shock but she also knows that that door is locked and there is no one else there to help take control of the situation. Once the creature jumps on her I would expect her to be flailing around a lot more than what we witnessed in the clip. Personally I think something like this would have helped this scene but all in all it was a great sequence and I cannot wait to watch it in full!

Well at least Neomorphs are different enough from Xenomorphs and imho way more efficient for slaughtering a great number of people. I have always had a hard time to consider the Xenomorphs as an effective mass destruction weapon. However the Neomorph ,especially with an efficient way to spread the spores, is a more potent slayer species. The spore is very optimized spreading and sleathy medium.

This said the Xenomorph especially the one from the first movie seems smarter, potentially more powerful and way more frightening.

Tim,

When I think of the nest in A2, I am reminded that little neos have nothing on the thoroughbred Xenos. They would hide and ambush in numbers. So, perhaps if we are talking about an army of hundreds hunting them, they would be better, but any less number in an environment with cover would be game set match Xeno. Agree?

MemberFacehuggerApr-28-2017 10:39 AM

The neomorphs seem to be a very basic animalistic creature, the xenomorph is like a mechanoid hybrid. As these creatures havent been 'modified' as such, they seem to have taken their evolutionary direction from local wildlife, boar, dogs, monkeys

Timiteh

MemberOvomorphApr-28-2017 11:09 AM

IllegalAlienSignedUp,

What make the Neomorph more efficient as a mass destruction weapon, is their more efficient way of spreading and their sheer agressivity since birth. Off course once you reach a critical mass the xenomorph become more dangerous but still their way of spreading through Facehuggers is quite inefficient to quickly reach a critical mass.

If i had the choice between using neomorph or xenomorph to wipe out an entire population, i would choose neomorph especially if i can weaponize the spores.

Xeno vs Neo - In a head to head match up, my money is also on the Xeno.  The adult Xeno is going to win out-right, against the Neo, or kill the neo with an acid blood rupture!

I still am really hoping to see some Engineer fights & what they can do, too!!

Walter, what can we say?  He was as useless as an awe-struck fanboy!  I do agree we may be seeing some 937 directive influence in Walter?

As Ash said, the Xeno is the perfect organism.

I personally thought that the neomorph bursts where actually brutal but really good. I for myself like the more animalistic approach on the younger versions. But I hope that they will get more 2 leg like when they are fully grown up. I think that they will be on 4 legs but then try to mimic the humans and use an crouched movement on 2 legs.
Personally I also wish that they would show more footage of the mouthburster. And I hope that they will explain how they grow in the host so fast.
But I`m looking forward for the first screening the 9th May

Inquisi Fifi – (Sorry, this name was created by Rick, and I like it very much…)

You are writing about the creatures in the neomorph birth scene:

’Way too animalistic and hyperactive. The movement has strong resemblance of a monkey or macaque thats attacking or fleeing…'

It would be a good idea to try to find the answer to this feature in the neomorph behaviour before jumping to descriptive conclusions, don’t you think? Why are they similar to ’running and jumping space monkeys’? Hmmm?

Perhaps we are going to enjoy an origin movie and these neomorphs are not created by humans, androids or engineers but nature itself. Perhaps the existence of these creatures is the product of millions of years. Perhaps these creatures are closer to animals. Perhaps these creatures, I mean the neomorphs, are wild animals…

’Do we really want the Alien and its relatives to be more animal than humanoid spawned demons? The Neomorphs and Proto/Xenomorph we got to see in the trailers and footage thus far all walked on their 4 legs, extremely fast and animalistic in motion.

What you state here is simply not true. The adult neomorph with its big hungry mouth is on two legs in the tv-spot ’Hide’, no doubt. Probably xenomorphs were not introduced in the materials, but the shower scene in the trailers reveals a Protomorph/Xenomorph (?) on two legs – its hand can be seen on the shower glass as well. And it uses its tail like its brother from 1979.

So I think it can be claimed that a kind of evolutionary span will be revealed and explained in Alien – Covenant and the future Alien movies. And it is expected and regarded as a clever thing.

’But thats just a concern for a possible incoming disappointment…

The disappointment in question was born in your mind and let’s hope it will stay there forever.

Also I want to lay aside the arguments we used to have here shortly, so no sarcasm intented.’

LOL, Armina, I don’t know who is behind this topic – the Sister, or the Master – but I’m sure this sentence was not created by the Sister… And now I’m not talking about the google translator (obviously false) cover story.

we had a good thread before you started your usual trolling

Ati

MemberPraetorianApr-28-2017 2:05 PM

Highlighting the fact that you misread and probably misrepresent several features of the movie in question is not trolling.

Inquisitor Fifield

MemberFacehuggerApr-28-2017 2:11 PM

we are not talking obsessive theories here - nothing to misread in motion pictures. Maybe go watch the 10min footage that are the topic, before raging like a manchild.

MemberXenomorphApr-28-2017 2:45 PM

OK guys, enough is enough - Ati I appreciate your passion.  Inq Fifi started a really good thread (my opinion of course) and requested putting the argument aside, so let's keep things above board and move forward.  With that said let's get the thread back on track.

MemberTrilobiteApr-28-2017 5:10 PM

I am fine with the animalistic behavior of the whatevermorphs. Hopefully we will see the moment they become biomech.

dk

MemberTrilobiteApr-28-2017 5:22 PM

Inquisitor Fifield A bit OT, but my problem was with the back burster scene and had nothing to do with the whatever morph.

I don't understand why Faris wouldn't let Oram's wife out- there was time. I think if the rationale was keeping things quarantined, then Faris already broke it by leaving the room after she was sprayed in the face by contaminated blood. Save those who can be saved and all that.

"For example in video games such as mmorpgs the monsters like sceletons, undead, abominations, zombies and other humanoid baddies "

So the Chinese are like opposite to USA and UK lol, i remember a Game called Carmagedon where you drove around killing people in a Car, and some countries the Humans was replaced with Zombies lol

I would love to see a Chinese Walking Dead lol

As far as the Neomorphs, i think he is showing us they are more Animalistic indeed, the only alternative to making them more Human/Primate would be Baby Neomorphs that just Poop and Cry and need feeding by someone lol

I would say they are going for a Evolution Approach here, and the Engineers Created a killing Machine, that was not Perfect.

We will see Evolution to it where it becomes more intelligent and i do suspect they could explore in future that AI plays a role in how it becomes Bio-Mechanical and Less Animalistic
