Black goo reaching earth

As we know from the Alien: Resurrection alternative scene, Ripley 8 and Call reach Earth and its destroyed. But I recall her mentioning a plague that could have wiped everyone out or something like that. Prometheus was probably not though of (even though the idea of pyramids was originally the plot for "Alien", the black goo was probably not thought of yet. But maybe Ridley came up with the idea to fulfill that gap hole of what happened to Earth in the Alien universe, I mean major coincidence or not??

There's a good chance that LV-223 wasn't the only testing ground with the black goo that existed... many more probably did, and an engineer could have possibly crashed a Juggernaut between Alien 3 and Alien: Resurrection potentially destroying earth.

Paris is a ship graveyard.  There's no evidence the rest of world is like that.  The very fact that Call was trying to protect the Earth from the Aliens, that the USM homebase is there and it looks green and pretty normal, with weather much like we have now, would indicate lots of people still live there, and it's business as usual.

In Prometheus, when one of the pilots mention the harsh atmosphere of LV-223 in detail, Holloway replies "just like home", this gave me an impression that Earth is basically severely polluted.

The fact that the Covenant crew needs to find another habitable planet could further establish this unless I'm missing something here. Like overpopulation (which sort of implies pollution anyway)

Taking the alternate ending of AR into consideration, I still imagine that Earth in that case is a desolate wasteland with a few survivors living in Mad Max style camps, but I never really drew any parallels to Prometheus, it was just an interesting detail worth mentioning.

With the theatrical ending in mind however, I believe that Earth is fairly "OK" sort of like you pointed out with those examples S.M.

Holloway was saying "just like home" in response to Ravel's "71% nitrogen, 21% oxygen, traces of argon gas".  Earth's atmosphere is 78% nitrogen, 21% oxygen, 0.93% argon.  LV-223 had over 3% CO2 versus our 0.04%.  So it was very similar to Earth - just not similar enough.  Dumb archeologists...

Weyland ended climate change last year (!) when he invented terraforming.  And going by the Sea of Sorrows novel, Weyland Yutani orchestrated a triumphant return when the Auriga crash threatened a nuclear winter and the Company re-terraformed Earth (mind you that book said the Auriga crashed into Paris too, but there you go).

A:R and some comic/novel's lore is not and will not be any canon for prometheus/covenant - thank god (ridley)

S.M oh I didn't recall the exact statistics there but despite the similarities didn't they also say in Prometheus that a couple of minutes without a mask would kill them?

Or am I either thinking about the silicon based storm that would "fry their suits in minutes" or the atmosphere on the planet in Avatar perhaps? I'm thinking loud now.

"S.M oh I didn't recall the exact statistics there but despite the similarities didn't they also say in Prometheus that a couple of minutes without a mask would kill them?"

You are remembering correctly.  Ford says it, then later Shaw experiences it...

"A:R and some comic/novel's lore is not and will not be any canon for prometheus/covenant - thank god (ridley)"

Why would have it anything to do with a film that took place 280 years earlier?

Holloway is responding Janek's "Whoa, now, that's weather.", not Ravel's answer.

Janek: - What is the atmosphere?

Ravel: - Atmosphere is... ...traces of argon gas.

Janek: - Whoa, now, that's weather.

Holloway: - Just like home.

Ford: - If you're breathing through an exhaust pipe. CO2 is over 3 percent. Two minutes without a suit, you're dead.

So the 'polluted Earth idea' is supported by the conversation. Holloway is not dumb in this scene.

Aliens- Alien Ressurection are not part of the actual canon from the Alien story to Prometheus. i doubt we will see any bigger connections except to the first movie and the last they made :-)

I agree Alien Ressurection is not part of actual canon. I personally feel it is just an awful movie, a couple decent ideas, a shoehorned way to bring Sigourney back, horrible horrible cheezy dialog and corny scenes and tone all over,....wince inducing over the top dialog between characters...i for one want to forget that movie ever happened and refuse to count anything in it as canon or an influence on these new movies that are a direct connection to Ridley's orginal Alien

I wonder if Shaw makes a covenant with David to / if engineers are all jerks that he kill them all to prevent morph goo from ever getting to earth even if the company tries to either. Sacrifice herself and all engaged in space when demon goo tech is around. She called it the lucerta plague. Can not friggin wait!!!!!!

Until Ridley Scott makes a Aliens Sequel that replaces Alien 3 and Alien R then they are Canon but Canon is always a personnel choice adn those who wish to not see Alien R as Canon is perfectly fine...

I felt the movie was a bit of a Popcorn Flick that was flawed, and had some element i found very flawed (Clone a Chest Buster infected person with the Queen inside from DNA, Stupid and Impossible) i rather see one Ripley Clone Evolve into something that then they extract the DNA and split Human/Xeno DNA this way to then clone a Xeno... i feel the DNA they got from Ripley would make a Hybrid and no way a Human and Chest Buster.

As for the Scene at the End i have to fully agree with SM

@Capt Torgo

A Covenant would certainly had to have been made, is a case of who broke the deal between Shaw and David, there is a lot of interesting ways this could be explored.

We know Shaw wants her answers, but what if they only need a few Engineers or related beings to get those answers, if Paradise has Thousands of Engineers then David too would want some answers and he would know the risk of getting what he wants would be very very unlikely if there are thousands of Engineers as he knows what ONE did to him.

Maybe he would think destruction of them all or most would be the way forwards and then by visiting the ruins he could get Shaw her answers... I however do not believe David has destroyed all the Engineers or even many.

I think this was a ancient event, but i do think some of them or related beings had survived and maybe David made a Covenant with them... which David had then broken prior to the Covenant ship arriving.
