Interesting. I am not sure when, where or how a prior communication would have happened.

I never understood the seeing parents dead reference. I thought it was his interpretation of psychology or something.

I think it is possible a hibernating engineer could be on the ship he and Shaw left with.

I dont think David has spoken to the Engineer prior to that scene when he awakens him.

"I never understood the seeing parents dead reference. I thought it was his interpretation of psychology or something."

Its a theme in Prometheus that the sequel was going to explore, about how the Son can rebel against the father.

I am sure most of us.... well i would say at least 50% have at some point as a Child said to your Parent/Parents or said to a friend about your Parent/Parents  "i wish they was dead" or "i wish they would die"

This is usually into response of being mistreated in your eyes by your parents and held back from doing what you want.

Or when your Parents prevent you from doing something you want to do, and Parents say no because you have not deserved it, or are not ready or its against their wishes.

I think this theme fits perfectly with how David may feel.... and with No Parents telling him what he can/cant do... David is Free.

Big Dave- that could be it. David could essentially be at an adolescent stage compared to humans despite his superior intellect. When David asked the question, Shaw said that she never felt that wish or her parents.

I think David is attempting to individuate - grow away from his Source or Roots, so to speak, and thus he spoke. He was being metaphorical, speaking of his original origins and perhaps of humanity in general when he spoke of wanting to see his "parents" dead. What he meant, psychologically, was that he wanted to be free to evolve into his own being - he didn't want to be a puppet of Weyland or of human expectations in general. He wanted to pursue his own development and agenda. Developmentally, this is true of us all, whatever we may feel towards our parents. Also, I doubt he met with the engineer, as it would have required awakening him, and it seems a bit cumbersome.

Rather, I tend to think that the Engineer recognized that David was not human, but was instead likely the product of humans. What he saw was that the creations of the Engineers were themselves Engineering, and this could be construed as a threat - just as the idea of artificial intelligences being able to self-replicate and evolve seems threatening to us. To be God is to fear being excelled by one's creations, or by one's creation's creations.

Indeed Ifox...

As i covered here

I wander if the Engineer was to his creators as David is to ours...  But he knows as our creation David is a Tool that can overthrow us and also Engineers.... as they know too well they did with their own Parents so to speak.

david was most definitely mistreated by weyland, the scene in Prometheus where wyland describes david as the closest thing to a son he will ever have, which though comforting to david is a dig at Vickers, would have made david feel important but then he is shamefully shot back down when weyland says he has no soul. the camera deliberately cuts to david at this point and i sensed a look of disappointment and from davids upright posture an attempt at keeping his dignity infront of the group. i think this david has developed what could be described as a soul or at least the beginings of 1. i think his line about wanting theyr parents dead is an admission of hatred towards weyland and his desire to be free as with weylands death he would be free from his control, and in many sons cases, out from under his fathers shadow.

i don't see david having previous contact with the engineer. ridley says the engineers are violent so i think if david had reviously spoken to him the engineer wouldv just ripped him apart there and then and wouldn't have gone back into stasis

No way he spoke to the Engineer, when the hypersleep chamber is opened all cords are attached and the Engineer is so out of it after 2,000+ years of hypersleep. Also, David's remark about "parents dying" is his metaphor of being able to do what he wants without being "owned" by Weyland as he's pretty much a slave. I feel like David gets made out to be the villian of Prometheus and he really isn't, Weyland is.
