Hello Scified its me Xenotaris. I wanted to create this forum to help people recognize what is a dinosaur and what is not.

Okay Dinosaur or Dinosauria is a clade of reptilian animals that have their legs tucked underneath them rather than sprawling out. They range from Cold-Blooded to Warm-Blooded, most if not all of them had some feather covering or non-at all like the sauropods.

Dinosauria clade also include the modern clade Avia or Birds as well as the extinct Non-Avian Dinosaurs, but dinosaurs are within a larger clade Ornithrodira which includes the Dinosaurs, their descedents birds, the flying Pterosaurs, the dinosaur's ancestors and ancestral cousins the dinosaurmorphs and Dinosauriformes. Which itself belongs to the larger clade: Archosauria. Archosauria then rests in Archosaurmorph which belongs to the clade Diaspids which includes both the Archosaurmorphs and Ledpidosaurmorphs.

Mosasaurus: Often called a dinosaur in media, but it sadly is not seeing that its far more closely related to Snakes and Lizards which are both under the clade squamata which is under the clade lepidosauria.

Pterosaurs: Often mistaken for dinosaurs but they are far more closer related to Dinosaurs than the Mosasaurus.

Dimetrodon: One of the most erroneous, since Dimetrodon isn't even a member of Diapsid reptiles but rather the Synapsids; a clade of animals that would eventually lead to mammals.

Prehistoric Mammals: Yes some people think that Mammoths, Sabertoothed Cats, and Mastodons were dinosaurs. This is obviously wrong but I had to include it.

Megalodon: Yes people seem to think that Meglodon is a dinosaur since it didn't live with humans but this is obviously wrong since its a shark and not a reptile of any kind, let alone an archosaur.

Birds: This is a dinosaur, since Birds are direct descendants of theropod dinosaurs.

Tyrannosaurus: This is a Dinosaur, under the clade of theropod which includes all carnivorious dinosaurs, a few bipedal herbivorous dinosaurs , and of course birds.

Mosasaurus are usually referred to as Marine Reptiles.

Good grief.

MemberAllosaurusOct-17-2016 8:02 AM

Indeed but Marine Reptiles is a very broad term since some Marine Reptiles belong to either Archosaurmorphs, Lepidosaurmorphs, or Pantestudines (Turtles, Pliosaurs, Plesiosaurs, and Ichthyosaurs; whether you consider them an archosaur or lepidosaur is up in the air for paleontologists although fossil evidence and genetic evidence seem to imply that Pantestudines are a type of archosaurmorph)

I was going to say Tarbosaurus and Zhuchengtyrannus, seeing the chicken is distantly related to the Tyrannosaurids; while birds are more closer related to Troodontids.

Oh darn, I should of read that closer. Well all birds are its closest living relatives. Given that both Tyrannosaurids=Tyrannosauroids and Avians are both members of Coelurosauria.

^The answer is the chicken. Turkey's being a close second.

Good grief.

Chickens are not Tyrannosaurids nor are Chickens basal birds, far from it. Also chickens are fairly recent evolution, now turkeys evolved 23 million years ago.

Look it up my friend, chickens are the closest living animal to Tyrannosaurus.

Good grief.

MemberAllosaurusOct-17-2016 5:32 PM

I did, I'm a dinosaur enthusiasts. All Birds are distantly related to T. rex.

With your logic, it would be saying that Pigs are closely related to humans. When Humans are primates and Pigs are Artiodactyla

Chickens evolved from (through the process of domestication) Red junglefowl which its self belongs to other Junglefowls which they themselves belong to a pheasant subfamily Phasianinae which belongs to main pheasant family Phasianidae, which shares the order Galliformes with other similiar birds such as Numididae (Guineafowl), Odontophoridae (New World Quails), Cracidae (basal Galliformes), and Megapode (Brush-turkey and Scrubfowls) this entire clade is only 45 million years old, go any further the less chicken the chicken's ancestor gets and the more primitive bird it gets all the way until you find the last common ancestor of all modern birds until you finally reach the clade Paraves which is the last common ancestors to all birds, Troodons, and Dromaeosaurs (Raptors)

The last common ancestor between Modern Birds and Tyrannosaurus was 165 million years ago.

Chickens first appeared 6000 BC, far to recent to be a relative to a Tyrannosaurid

Chicken T.rex closest relative.

Smithsonian T.rex chicken related.

T.rex is related to all land fowl, but chicken is its closest biological relative. However, they are not related 100% directly.

Good grief.

Xenotaris

MemberAllosaurusOct-17-2016 5:59 PM

Your using articles that are about Jack Horner? That guy is a quack.

Also the reason they say chicken is because its the most familiar Bird, but in reality all birds are distantly related to T. rex but Birds (chickens included) are far more related to the Raptors than any Tyrannosauroid. Freaking Dromaoesaurids/raptors actually share a common ancestors with all birds (chickens included)!

Whoever wrote those articles are freaking stupid, Dromaeosaurids and Troodontids have far more bird traits than any Tyrannosauroid or Tyrannosaurid.

Go to wikipedia and any other source for dinosaur knowledge. I can assure you, they will all say that tyrannosaurs and chickens share the most similarities and are the closest related--even though they are not. Jack Horner is a quack, but the articles are not.

Good grief.

MemberAllosaurusOct-17-2016 6:30 PM

Dude are you trolling me?

What part of Chickens plus Paravaes not closely related to T. rex you don't understand. I visit wikipedia and it supports my views, I have like a Kagillion dinosaur books stuffed in my bookshelves.

Article

You don't seem to understand. They are not 100% related, but of all birds, chicken is the closest to T.rex.

Good grief.

Xenotaris

MemberAllosaurusOct-17-2016 6:44 PM

Convergent Evolution then, how could Chickens be the closest to T. rex when T. rexes aren't even a part of Bird Evolution *facepalm*

ALIEN VERSUS PREDATOR UNIVERSE

GG

ModeratorAllosaurusOct-17-2016 6:54 PM

Yes, by convergent evolution. Chickens are the closest, of ALL the birds, to T.rex.

Good grief.
