Will the aliens in Alien: Covenant be like the "Big Chap" or Cameron's "bugs"?

Hello there.

First and foremost, I would like to say that I am very excited for Sir Scott's upcoming Alien: Covenant! Everything I have read and watched up to this point has given me extremely high hopes. Naturally, however, with those high hopes also come high expectations. One of the top expectations I have for this film is that the creatures - the Aliens - will do the original Big Chap justice. I dearly desire to see the same skulking, silent and reticent behavior from the new beasties - the actions of opportunistic predators whom wait for vulnerable prey. With that being said, I am left to wonder how the chips will fall since we know that there will be multiple aliens running about. Will they be more like the vision presented by James Cameron, or will they be something in between what we witnessed in the first and second installments of the Alien saga? What would you prefer if given the chance to decide? As always, your thoughts and conjecture on this topic are most welcome, even if you choose to keep them to yourself. :)

Don't know and don't really mind either way. I daresay they won't look too much like the picture above.

Cameronesque bugs? In a Ridley Scott movie? NEVER! ;)

I am greatly excited by what's to come too Something Real!

There have been hints that Giger's Necronom IV may be reprised in some way. See my topic: H.R Giger's Necronom IV Appears on A L I E N: COVENANT Clapperboard

According to reports, we will see at least two types of MORB, the Big Chap and a new beast. I have a feeling that particular Giger design may be used for a re-invented Big Chap, or the new creature, perhaps an Ultramorph? Or both.

There were many Ultramorph designs for PROMETHEUS, which were never used.

Either way I hope to see a breathtaking version of Giger's work! I am willing to bet money opon us seeing a pale-translucent skinned MORB, just as H.R's artwork intended!

There is also a now adult DEACON on LV-223 to consider, whether it will be referred to, remains to be seen.

I'm with Lone, I'm going to bet we see more of the Big Chap style Xenomorph in Covenant. More than likely we'll see quite a few variations before the final, "big boy" is revealed.

This probably isn't a popular opinion, but based solely on what we saw onscreen I don't see much difference between the two outside of the fact one was alone, while the other had a hive behind it.

It more went with the context of who was dealing with them. The better trained, better equipped marines typically did better than the first crew because of just that, and I daresay the xenos almost always drove them back and took at least a few characters with them.

Alien is a slasher in space any way you look at it, and the victims in a slasher are never prepared or trained for the situations they're put in, Aliens is an action movie. If you put any big slasher villain inside an army base rather than whatever setting they have you'd see them acting less competent too, or effective too.

All of the Xenomorphs are similar and yes they have some differences but they are similar, sometimes minor differences due to creative in continuity aesthetics, where things look different a bit but are maybe supposed to be the same.

I think we are going to see something similar to the Original but we cant be 100% sure it would be the Big Chap Xenomorph if the movie will require a sequel and we are only going to just start to find out how the Organism is Bio-Mechanical....

So right now its hard to say....

As far as the Source Rumors, again we cant take them in anyway as FACT  and even if they was correct we have to remember this movie is not Green/Paglens Prometheus 2 but a Logans Re-write Alien Covenant, and so some concepts from Spaights draft looked nothing quite like we got in Lindeloffs and even Lindeloffs concept work based on his draft there was changes compared to the Final Product.

We maybe thus cant take the images on the Ball Caps, the T-Shirts and Clapper boards as being what we would see, we had that Face Huger Poster for the Creature Team and we cant guarantee we would see the same Face Huger.

All we know for CERTAIN is....

We will at some point see every stage of a Xenomorph Related Organism.... the movie seems to indecate more than One Monster... but this does not have to be different ones.. just that Alien had 1X Big Chap, Prometheus 1X Deacon and Alien 3 1X Runner Xeno... but Aliens had XXX amount of Cameron Xeno Warriors but it was still just One Monster... (Warrior) plus a Queen.

Looking at the Hand Sculpture we know at least there would be ONE  kind of Xenomorph, and this one does not look as Bio-Mechanical as Alien but not as Human as Prometheus.

It has 6 digits, but it appears different to every other one we have seen....

*Alien/Alien 3 ==> Two out most digits (replace Thumb and Pinky) and 4 Digits in the middle.

*Aliens ==> Same as above but the 4 middle digits are split into two joint pairs (joint up to the Middle Phalangers)

*Alien R and AVP ==>  The same as Aliens only the two split digits are not joint so it has 4 digits

*Promethes ==> Human Hands

And Alien Covenant the hands look like they have 5 digits like a Human only the style is similar to the Alien and Alien 3 Xenomorph only with 5 digits but the tumb digit seems to have a halfway split like the middle two pairs in Aliens.

And so this seems to be something new....

Maybe we would get a fresher take on these?

Here is a sculpture/model based of the one of Gigers Original Concepts from above.

]

To me these hands with a Split thumb look more like the Prop we saw from Alien Covenant and so if we saw similar to this thats less Bio-Mechanical and has no Hose/Pipe Appendages on its back but then we see a Evolution in the movie where its hinted a more Bio-Mechanical one with those Appendages could come from... then i think that would be a welcome result.

DURP004 - You actually present some very compelling and thought-provoking views in your statement! Your comparison of the Alien films to "slasher" movies is very interesting - and accurate at its core! :)

BIG DAVE - Once again, the wealth of information you have presented leaves little doubt that you are a true expert and fan of the Alien topic! Wow! I certainly see the differences that you have bought to light concerning the various iterations of the creature. The possibilities for continuing the trend of slight and major variations are staggering! :)

Assimilation & Genetic Evolution is part of what makes ALIEN such an incredibly engaging Series!! I like BIGDAVE's take on what Logically could happen throughout the beginning processes of what makes the MORB Perpetually more Bio-Mechanical thru out the 3Promee Sequels. I personally Believe this stage of events will greatly help Attribute to what Miss Sigourney recently said about Blompkamp's Alien5 possibly exploring the more Primordial Reason why the MORB does what it does ^_^

Wonderful Post & Contributing Conversation most wunderful fellow MORB-Enthusiast Scifiedz!

If Cameron had his way he would of made the aliens like in the original alien.    He only went with new design because of cost and time.  i feel like we all want the big chap alien even Cameron.

I hope that it will be more like the original alien if I have to decide. The idea that Cameron had wasn’t bad it is just that the Giger version is better. By making it more un-relatable it gets scarier. Hopefully we will not see too much of it but having it lurking in the shadows so people die but they are found after they have been killed so to speak because then you can use your imagination like they did when Lambert and Parker were killed in Alien.

Lone: I think that an Ultramorph would be interesting for the simple fact that we haven’t seen it before. Before I joined this community I hadn’t got a clue that the Ultramorphs existed so that is new to me. As far as the Deacon goes I am not sure if I prefer it as an isolated event or not.

Regarding Camerons Aliens....  they did want to go with the more dome headed Big Chap look but as the movie was going to be action based and stunt actors in suits, the see-through domes appeared to be not as hard wearing and too fragile to pull off and so the design they went with proved to be more sturdy.

It was not his intentions for them to look different to the Alien 1979 Xenomorph

Gigeresgue, Big Chap with better movement and articulation, "Gelly Ciwl" a must. Beautiful and terrible and dark. Alien not bestial.

I'm sorry to nit pick but why did you use the darn AVP Xenomorph as the tumbnail when you could of the Big Chap or Cameron's alien instead?

Sorry I just really hate AVP (2004) and its creature designs.

XENOTARIS - Hahaha! I do not mind your question in the least; I do not see it as being antagonistic. The honest truth for my image choice is simple: it was the clearest one I could find at the time in which I created this topic. I happen to think it is somewhat interesting as an image; though I agree that the designs from the first two Alien films were far better! :)

"It was not his intentions for them to look different to the Alien 1979 Xenomorph"

He also thought the sculpted ribbing of the head was much more interesting.

S.M -  I was not aware of that fact! Thank you for bringing it to my attention! How very neat! :)

Another thing is the Aliens Xenomorphs look based off the Alien one minus the clear dome....  they just enhanced the details under the dome and they wanted to use the dome but was to fragile to make them work as they would be used for a lot of action.

I think it would be interesting to bring up a reason for the Dome idea to be explored...
