Character arcs are important to any story. They basically show how the character evolves in a film. In this case, Daniels, played by Waterson will be the new female lead as we can probably assume Shaw dies. Will Daniels be a natural leader or will she have to learn as Riey did? Perhaps Daniel's will have a romantic love who is tragically killed, leaving her alone to carry on. We can tell by the photos released that she will be a fighter. Now, will Scott carry her character into the next film or will she be expendable and a bridge to the next main character in the next film?

Is it Daniel or Daniels?

It is Daniels, I've fixed the title for ya David001. As for her fate? I have a funny feeling shell be a "surviver", but one of the only few, if any others do make it.

Hyped for: Alien: Romulus | Badlands (Predator 6) | Cloverfield 4

Thanks Chris.

I believe that she will make it as well. Though, she will lose all her dear friends in the process

If she will be a well developed character that is somewhat likeable (let's compare her to Ripley) then I hope that she will survive but if she will be a dumb ass like Shaw then I hope that we will not need to see her a lot. My guess is that she will be better than Shaw because it is not likely that she will be as bad or worse. This will be interesting to see.

As far as being a natural born leader or learning I think that even though you have the leadership skills you need to learn things along the way. There doesn't need to be a big contrast between these two.

@Thought_Dreams

You can't/shouldn't have flat one dimensional characters...You need some 'dumb ass' in every character...or they might as well be David...a perfect synth.(of course :David was programmed by humans...so he has a lot of dumb ass in him..i.e: Waking a super being and then having it tear your head off is very dumb ass. I can think of thousand ways I'd have woken the Engineer and not gotten everyone killed. David was debased, embarrassed and again has to rely on humans to wipe his headless ass for him.)

Maybe Daniels is a superwoman. I for one, hope she's not.

Monster Zero:

I don't claim that I want some sort of super humans either because all people have some flaw. What I mean is that she shouldn't be like Shaw ("I think that they want us to visit them" It is what I choose to believe") or Milburn and Fifield that choose to touch an angry space cobra and get lost despite being the map maker. These things are obviously dumb ass things.

No one is perfect just don't make them super stupid like they were in Prometheus that is what I am saying. You can probably find something that isn't good about Ripley if you really try. Characters can be made likeable and still have some sort of flaw.

I would hope the character would develop in some ways. The most compelling characters are those that learn and change with the audience. This is supposed to be a horror movie, so just look at the cliche female lead to any of them as a starting point to what we might be able to expect from her at base.

Well, here's my problem with the characters. Maybe they are being selected for their pioneering skills as settlers, versus pure problem-solving under pressure, survival skills needed for these extreme conditions.

I don't know what the time lines are or which expeditions got to read and heed AAR's (after action reports) from which expeditions, but jeez, you'd think after all these fubar missions they'd wise up and put some pipe-hitters onboard who were born to work in this kind of environment.  If I see one more scientific type trying to pet alien life forms, I'm gonna shoot them myself.

I think Ripley set the bar for a non-warrior trained type, who is thrown into the deep in of the pool and comes out swinging.  With a little tutoring from Hicks she commences to kick a lot of alien ass.  Be nice to see some of that again.  Cuz the next one who sez "we're a scientific expedition; we don't need weapons" is gonna be fed to the nearest Alien.

Diz:

If you try to pet a space snake without any common sense to me that person is stupid and I wouldn't feel bad when the persons dies - that is basically one idiot less. However if you have encountered an alien before and there were no problem back then I could understand not being as careful but yeah that scene was stupid. Watch this review https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eSaKxB-8YlE (3:29-6:46) where she comments on that scene.

Yes the "no weapons" comment immediately made me dislike Shaw even more (the invitation comment was the first). Hopefully she will not be in it that much (AC) because if she will then it will make it worse IMO if she hasn't learned anything/got some common sense/character development.

You know, some of you guys don't like Shaw, and I get that, she gave us good reasons, but here's another thought.  I have seen really goofy people morph into real meat-eaters when put under pressure.  So I have learned not to write anyone off, because you just never know who is gonna raise to the occasion.

You could only hope that while chilling in the Jug with David that she might have a change of heart, and see the world as it is, rather than how she would like it to be.  Yeah the Aliens didn't invite you to come meet them, they were pretty freaked out when you crashed the party.  And yeah, the next time a pipe hitter pulls out the hardware, you might smile and say right on dude, rather than diss him.

So I mean some people actually change.  But some just double-down on whatever they're doing.  Depends.

Anyways, I'm hoping Daniels will be one that rises to the occasion.
