Will Godzilla turn evil in 2018?

Will Legendary ever consider to go towards a more classic Godzilla route?

Aside from the Earth's natural radiation, will there be a possibility of him developing some sort of addiction towards man-made nuclear radiation? This may cause him to have a more erratic and violent behavior which may lead him to destroy anything and everything. And humans will now see him more as a threat now and a good excuse for a classic military vs. Godzilla scenes.

I think Godzilla will remain as as the protagonist monster that Legendary spent the entire first film establishing. There's no point in creating this persona for Godzilla if Legendary is just going to erase it in the next movie. I think that there could always be a scene where the military attacks Godzilla and he finally fights back, but as for suddenly making him the villain, there's no chance of it.

I agree. It seems Godzilla has been set up as the primary protagonist for Legendary's movies and I don't see that changing, particularly with King Ghidorah in the cards.

Toho's next Godzilla movie in 2016 does sound "evil" however, and if you're looking for that kind of Godzilla I think you should probably keep your eyes peeled for that.

The nice thing is Legendary and Toho will give is two distinct varieties of Godzilla which is important if two series are going to happen at once. They need to be as separate from each other as possible.

What exactly do you mean by, "a more classic Godzilla?"

The Anti-Hero Godzilla's are by-far considered classic, ever since Ghidorah: the three headed monster the 5th in the series Godzilla was an Anti-hero.

Some of the most famous films in the series depict the King as a savior, MechaGodzilla, Astro Monster, Son of Godzilla, Ebirah. So saying him being somewhat good as not quote on quote, "Classic" doesn't sound right.

Good grief.

I really hope not... Though I would like some Godzilla Vs. Military scenes.

I hope he stays as an anti-hero.

I'm in agreement with the majority here. The anti-hero role fits nicely for LegendaryGoji. However, I think that the way we Humans react to that role is open for adjustments for story-appropriate reasons.

For example, perhaps Godzilla could end up causing more damage initially than the monsters he's fighting in the film's sequels, and would prompt us to attack him in greater force than the others, but as the antagonist monsters show their more destructive capabilities, THEN we begin shifting to staying out of his way.

Whoops! I may have posted the topic in a hurry and I shouldn't have used the word 'evil' since I'm also used to seeing him as an anti-hero. What I mean about the 'classic' thing is about what Godzilla used to do in the old movies, particularly in the Heisei era is him raiding nuclear plants and nuclear subs for the radiation. And I remember in the 1991 vs. King Ghidorah movie where one character said the Godzilla's nuclear mutation caused him to be more violent. I just got curious if man-made nuclear waste will have a bad effect on LegendaryGoji. But I highly doubt it, we've seen it before.

And I agree the LegendaryGoji already established himself as a protagonist and I loved it, especially with other kaijus being thrown in the sequel. Since we have the 2016 coming out I prefer Legendary do something completely different than we're used to. I still kinda wished there would be a scene with him fighting back against the military. I know it's done countless times but it never goes old to me.

TSUKURIO4 - What a very interesting question you have posed! I would have to say that I hope Legendary's Godzilla remains as the protagonist/ant-hero throughout his jaunts on the big screen. With that being said, I happen to believe Toho's upcoming Godzilla (2016), as GMAN2887 has so wisely stated, will better showcase the "classic" Godzilla you have described! Certainly something to which I am looking forward! :)

I doubt it. Legendary's Godzilla may raid other nuclear plants for energy, but that is about it. He could be attacked by the military for the damage he caused fighting the Mutos and that could enrage him. But I don't think he'll go evil. Especially with King Ghidorah on his way to earth (assuming Legendary's Ghidorah will be from space).

It would be a ballsy (and unpredictable) move on their part to do that, but no, I don't think they will. Like most folks here, I think Godzilla will remain the protagonist.

I also think ToHo's Godzilla next year is a direct answer/rebuttal to the "hero" Godzilla, as all the talk (so far), has been to return him to his roots, which puts a big smile on this fan's face.

Agreed! We're just gonna let ToHo do what what it does best with Godzilla. I still wish that the 2016 one is going to be a solo film. The reason why the 1954 and 1985 films still resonates with me is because of Godzilla's destructive nature and the horrors he unleashed is very much in focus.
