Development: Giant Horde Beast Nezua was an attempt by Daiei to capitalize on the monster movies going on at the time. Several still shots and promotional photos for the Nezura movie were produced and released, but the film was canceled by Kojima, the exectutive at Daiei, due to the very bad coniditions (lice, ticks and germs) brought on by the live, untrained sewer rats which they caught to shoot the movie, plus the worry caused for the neiphboring town of Daiei Studios. Daiei did not give up on making a monster films however, and they came up with Gamera the very next year.
Plot: At a Food Research Institute located on one of Japn' surrounding islands south of Tokys, scientists develop a revolutionary high-calorie food source labled the "S602". One of the scientists discovers that the nutrient has terrible side effects that cause mutations in those who comsume it. Plans to contiune with the experiments of S062 are halted and the current supply is supposedly disposed of. Soon after though several disappearances begin to happen that leads to an investigation that uncovers giant rats that have been attacking and eating livestock and humans. One of the dead man-sized rats is dissected for study and a decison in made to spary poison gas on the island to kill all of the rats. Many of the rats as well as an enormous mammoth-sized rat escapes to the sea and invades Tokyo. Eventually the rats cannibalize each other thus eradicating the threat on its own.
Opinion: To be honest I don't really think that this film is all that interesting mainly because it looks like this film would have been a lot like most of the films done here in the States with regule animals being turned into monsters. Does this mean I think it would have been a bad movie? No I just think it's cliche for me atleast. Not bat just nothing special.

MemberGodzillaMar-07-2015 2:46 PMULTRAZERO80 - You know, I have actually never heard of this film? How very compelling! The plot in and of itself does recall such movies as Them and Night of the Lepus. However, I feel that it might have made for an interesting monster movie had it been actualized. Regardless, thank you so much for presenting this information! I greatly enjoy learning new facts! :)
