In the aftermath of the hacking at Sony the fate of the Spiderman franchise now rests in the hands of Marvel, whose reputation for multiple successful films within its cinematic universe has expanded with the characters they have put on screen.
Most recently, news have grown of the cancellation of the ‘’Sinister Six’’ project under the helm of Drew Goddard, who is known for writing the screenplays of Cloverfield, and World War Z, as well as having directed Cabin in the Woods.
It would seem such as shame for the talented Mr. Goddard to withdraw from the project, yet Sony and Marvel have been most considerate, allowing Mr. Goddard to become attached to the latest Spiderman flick, which is just too perfect. As Mr. Goddard has spent the last couple of years working on the Sinister Six, it is assumed that he has researched the multiple villains that have appeared in the Spiderman universe, each with their own backstory that ties in well with everyone’s favourite web-slinger.
Too make the fitting even more brilliant, Ironman is expected to brawl with the web-slinger in the new film, and what better way to introduce the new actor to the Marvel Universe, given that Peter Parkers origins have been told on screen before. A fresh take like this could be what the franchise needs to reboot and reawaken just the way the fans are surely craving.
It is also a shame that Andrew Garfield has stepped down, given that he rapidly became popular with the role, yet according to sources the character is too retain his high school stage which means that there are a number of talented young actors to whom Marvel can court for the role, names included have been Dylan O’Brien (Teen Wolf, The Maze Runner), Josh Hutcherson (The Hunger Games, Journey 2) and Logan Lerman (Percy Jackson, Fury) but what do you think?
If there is one thing that should remain it is that plans for the Sinister Six and Venom films should not be shelved, but reconsidered to work within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, both are hotly anticipated films with popular characters and would do well to draw in the worlds Spiderman fans and help to make up for the apparent critical and commercial failure of The Amazing Spiderman 2.
It is important to remember that this character is one of the most coveted of the Marvel Universe and one of the most popular amongst fans, and if Sony and Marvel are smart, and they are, they ought to fill up Phase 4 of Marvel with Spiderman-related material, this helps Sony with its contract to produce at least one Spiderman films within five years and hastens the franchise to the heights and expectations that fans have waited for many years.
In regards to fitting in with the Marvel Universe, it is possible that the release of Captain America: Civil War will be delayed to allow the writers more time to incoperate the web-slinger into the Civil War story and introduce his potential new backstory, (of course why they simply don’t name it Marvels Civil War is a little confusing, given that it is beginning to seem less and less of a Captain America stand-alone).
It would also be possible for many of Spidermans villains to be included in other marvel films apart from Spiderman, such as that demonstrated by Loki moving from Thor and into the Avengers, or the possible inclusion of Ulyssus Klaw as a villain of the Black Panther in Avengers: Age of Ultron, the universe is just so rich that Spiderman will have so much bring so long as Sony and Marvel play their cards right.
