I think that Darren Aronofsky could work too. Although slightly controversial, his filmaking style could suit the material. In fact I'd like to see him take on Prometheus 2, if Sir Ridley can't. His work has enough artistic vision and depth to satisfy. Take a look at Pi, Requiem For A Dream, and, in particular, my favourite~ The Fountain, and The Wrestler, Black Swan, and Noah.
There's enough in The Fountain and Noah to convince me of his suitability. Though I still hope that Ridley Scott will direct both sequels.

MemberPraetorianJan-11-2015 6:33 AMI know not everyone feels as I do about BladeRunner, for me, it's about as close to being a masterpiece as a Science Fiction movie can get!
That being said, I feel it's an enormous ask of any director to take on the sequel. To equal Ridley Scott's original will be almost impossible, for many reasons. I'm not saying it can't be done......with the right director!

Looks a interesting movie..
As far as Ridley goes, i am not sure what to say, i would have thought he would rather do Blade Runner 2 to be fair, a few who have seen the script which include Harrison Ford have said its one of the best plots they have ever read.
While Prometheus did not go down as well as maybe Ridley would have liked, and a number was disapointed with how it connected to the Alien Franchise, with Blade Runner 2 Ridley would have the chance to take what on paper seems a fantastic movie, and deliver a sequel that would amaze and do Blade Runner Justice...
Or does he forgo that chance to try and Direct a Prometheus 2 and either make for the wrongs that happened in the first movie, now i dont mean because of how it never went to what some people expected... i mean overall a lot was expected to produce a movie that would do Alien not only justice but also give a unique new franchise... the maintream felt it never lived upto expectations to be a EPIC... does Prometheus 2 have the greater potential to be that EPIC movie that would sit amoung Alien and Blade Runner as such?
Or does he play it safe and go for Blade Runner 2?
It would be good to see him Direct both movies and maybe he can! We have to remember that usually its 5 year wait on average between each Alien Sequel... So if they follow the same patern i am sure if the end product ends up being EPIC we wont mind waiting until 2017 for Prometheus 2... leaving Ridley to direct Blade Runner 2 for a 2016 release date.

AdminPraetorianJan-15-2015 11:33 AMRidly said he may still direct it, and that it's a deeply personal project for him. I think he will end up doing it himself either way.
Ridley Scott may still direct the Blade Runner sequel!
*Side note, I can't move it now that it is written, but in future it would help if Blade Runner discussions were posted on the Blade Runner 2 forum. This forum is for Prometheus threads. :)

MemberOvomorphJan-15-2015 1:54 PMSvanya... I positioned it here because I did make reference to Prometheus 2 and was hoping to encourage talk both for Prometheus 2 rivaling The Martian and Blade Runner 2 and therefore felt I was just inside the bounds to justify posting it upon the Prometheus site but in equal measure I hear what your sayin too...
