I would like to know others thoughts on the first reveal of godzilla. I believe it was an epic fail. The first time I saw the movie I was in utter shock. They teased the audience for so long and when they finally show godzilla, its for about 5 seconds. Then you dont see him again until later in the movie. He shows up in san francisco and its like another big reveal. Again, they show him walking for about 5 seconds walking in the bay. I wasnt happy.

This is the directors fault. I want a new director for the sequels.

Your thoughts?

I would've liked a little bit more of Godzilla, but too much and it becomes Bay's Transformers.

I was perfectly satisfied with the full reveal of Godzilla at the Hawaii scene.

It was perfect. If there were any other big fight scenes before the climax, it wouldn't have been quite as awesome. Besides, we really did see the whole "fight" at the airport on the TV screen: Godzilla bit the MUTO for a few seconds, then it flew away like a pansy.

Still on this subject, are we?

I just and  returned from finally seeing the movie a 2nd time and I really don't have a problem with any of it at all. It's a personal preference thing for sure. Some of the heat this movie is getting is mind boggling. I never once felt bored or uninterested. I personally believe it's the most well made Godzilla flick I've ever seen. But having said that my favorite is "Destroy All Monsters" I only wish they could have add a Godzilla vs. the Military scene complete with a rendition of the classic Godzilla march theme. Other then that I wouldn't change anything one bit. To each their own though.

People can learn from their mistakes so im sure Gareth will clean em all up.

I will be willing to bet that Godzilla didn't have more than 10 minutes of actual screen-time, and only about 3 of those minutes were in daylight.

An extended battle with the military, a couple of scenes of Godzilla rampaging, and a final kick-ass battle with the MUTOs, would have made for an all-time classic Godzilla movie.  Instead Gareth Edwards chose to tease us.

After seeing Godzilla the second time, I've settled on a rating of 6 out of 10.  Not too bad, but no where near what it could have been.

Maybe next time.

JKOSMOS, I'll keep it short since this is the argument that refuses to die...I agree 100%!

I still don't get the teasing though? Seriously guys. Does it really make any sense to do that with a creature like Godzilla?

They showed him in the trailer!?! To then tease him in the movie is nonsense.

We have to break down how much quality time was there and what we view as quality time.

HOw many of us think of him swimming as quality time on screen? I don't. I thought that was overdone.

Screen time of him lying in the dirt and getting up? I don't view that as quality time.

Is the airport scene quality time? It would have been if it wasn't cut.

Is him falling down and looking at Ford quality screen time? I don't think it is.

So what are we left with? The fight against the Mutos, and I felt it was far too short.

Was it quality screen time for him to take the Muto from behind before the "kiss of death"?

I don't think so.

Its not just how much time he had on screen, but, how much of it was quality time.

The reveal itself I loved, the suspense and tension leading up to finally seeing him was great. Could've used a little bit of action after the roar but I loved it regardless.

@Ratedrex

You'd lose that bet. After seeing the film 3 times I can honestly say he's in it for more than 10 minutes.

Ratedrex-I don't know...I bet you're at least really close to right about Godzillas screen time. The other night there was a crappy bootleg of the fight scene on this very site. I was tempted to get my phones stopwatch and time how much actual Godzilla you see on the screen, but I was too tired and decided not to. I'm kinda kicking myself now. I haven't checked, but it's probably been pulled by now. However, that being my second time seeing it, I'm convinced that it was no more than 15 mins. You factor out the human action, and you are almost certainly around 10 mins. in the final scene. I found myself being irritated all over again.

Okay folks, I went back and found the footage of the final Godzilla battle, from the HALO jump, to when Godzilla falls for the first time.  No second MUTO kill. I timed it with a stopwatch. I know, nothing better to do at the moment. I tried to time ONLY actual Godzilla, not the human action. I let the clock run for some of the MUTO stuff, cutting out perhaps 50% of them. Here's what I got-4:24 seconds. That's right folks. And that's my sloppy timing. If I were more acurate, I'm thinking 4 minutes. So if you were to add the second kill, what's that, like another 10-20 seconds? Then he passes out, gets up, falls into the ocean, and swims away. Another minute? Two tops? Airport scene, perhaps 20 seconds, maybe less. The bridge...again, several seconds at best. A couple steps into San Fran, another few seconds. Now, me personally, I'm not going to add all his back swimming shots. So what are we talking in total? Around 10 minutes TOPS of Godzilla in the WHOLE MOVIE! 10-measley, friggin' minutes. A well done 10 minutes from a quality perspective, but 10 nontheless. If anyone wants or cares to double check my work, be my guest. If you think I'm nuts for doing this? Maybe. But the debate's not going away, so we may as well add some accuracy to it.

Next-Time and compare how much screen time Godzilla gets in 1954.

I think the director did a fantastic job, the reveal made me go change my jimmies, I love the suspense, the build up.

Thank you for doing that. If that is truly the screen time, that is pathetic. Really pathetic of Legendary and Edwards.

How much time are they going to put in the sequel that will probably come in 2018?

They will have other monsters, so it can't be that much for Godzilla.

Wasn't Godzilla 1954 an hour and a half movie with 17 minutes of screen time? Or am I wrong? I don't have the stats in front of me.

I wonder if there is a resource somewhere for Godzilla screen time in all his movies out there?

Talisman-So I time checked most of G1954. I didn't have the whole movie on my DVR, so I missed to Odo island scene, which is pretty short on Godzilla anyway. I got the rest, and it ends up being aprox. 9 min. That's just Godzilla face time, including foot stomps and most of the tail swings. I didn't add tanks and flaming buildings or anything like that. So it ends up being pretty similar. I think the difference is that in 2014, the action is pretty frenetic and POVs trough glass, so you don't get much sense of a good view. In 1954, you get really really good, stable looks at big G. The camera is right on him. Of course, in each case in those regards, there are pluses and minuses.

Of course, the original Godzilla is 80 min., so you're getting more G per movie time.

And my real problem is that this is not 1954. In 2014, I expect a specticle. I don't feel I got it. I think Godzillas screen time should have been more akin to Godzilla 2000.
