Pro: it could introduce an "alien" theme to Godzillla without seeming cheesy. No way Edwards will sign off on something that seems even a little goofy.
Pro 2: could have others (Jaegers) helping GZ in the Jet Jaguar role, only a lot better.
Pro 3: They could exploit how this is really outside of Godzilla's "range." We are led to understand he's pretty familiar with the MUTO--at least enough to communicate. The aliens of PR would be totally outside of that and would present a fresh challenge godzilla isn't aware of and that a good director like Edwards could do a lot with.
Con 1: might seem contrived. Lots of core fans on both sides already feel that way...they'd have to write well to make it work
Con 2: if this movie is huge, doubt Edwards feels compelled to throw in with any other franchise, unless he and Del Toro are buds. He'll practically be obligated to make another Godzilla...
Con 3: Each franchise has distinct styles. PR more so. Godzilla 14 sought to be very realistic to modern earth. The future world of PR has a distinct fictional style and feel that are integral to the entire movie...hard to imagine Edwards signing up for that--and he'd have to, because they can't go "back" in time, right? This could be like Kiss bringing in Eddie Van Halen--he's (GZ) just too big.
that said...what if the next enemy of Godzilla...were mankind itself that had Jaegerlike robots? What about a dark future, where a few with brains, resources and evil ambition, have basically enslaved earth and enforced it with, oh, something murderous and Sentinel-like that now threatens all of existence because, of course, we've lost control? What if, once again, man opens the door to an "imbalance" only this time, it's man himself who's the real threat? Once Godzilla somehow destroys the robots or overt threat...can he stop? Does mankind, even free of the evil technology, deserve to continue to exist? dunno, they could do a lot with it...
