MemberBaragonApr-30-2014 9:45 AMHey guys! As most of you are aware, Akira Takarada’s cameo in the new Godzilla has been cut for unknown reasons. It’s likely the scene affected the pacing or was considered unnecessary, but whatever the reason, it’s a real shame. If you are unaware of the incredible circumstances under which he was actually invited to film the cameo, it’s an amazing story. But all that work has, sadly, been undone.
But now, thanks to G-FAN, a new petition has been created that will be sent to Legendary, respectfully requesting that Gareth Edwards reinsert the scene into the final film! The petition will be up until May 10th (cutting it awfully close), and they are looking for 1000 signatures. They are already at over 300, and while it’s unlikely a petition will change Legendary’s minds (I imagine deleting that scene wasn’t easy for them, but deemed necessary for whatever reason), there is always the possibility it could have an effect!
If you are interested in signing the petition, check it out here:

Let’s hope this makes a difference!

There's not much of a point for a petition if you know your going to fail.
I'd really just recommend waiting for an extended edition on DVD for Akira Takarada's scene.

Here's the deal guys, no disrespect to the petition or the great talent that Mr. Takarada is, but this kind of thing happens all the time. We don't even know what this scene was. If the film makers cut it because it didn't mesh with a scene or it threw off the pacing that means it was cut to improve the movie.
I'm glad this movie is being edited without bias to create the best possible movie for audiences. If cutting Takarada's scene does that, then I'm all for it. At best we'll get to see his cameo on the DVD / Bluray release.
I don't expect this to stop anyone from signing the petition. By all means sign it. I enjoy the passion. But at this point I don't believe that it's something that will or should to happen.

Do you have any idea who Takarada is? Because... He's not a she.

MemberMothra LarvaeApr-30-2014 12:35 PMGMAN I'm gonna have to respectively disagree with you. Its not always that film editors cut scenes for the greater good of the film. One Scend I recall that wished was in the final film was the deleted scene from Return of the Jedi. The scene when Luke is constructing his own lightsaber. Why they cut this from the final cut still baffels me. It didn't take away from the story and you gave the audience of how the lightsaber was constructed, not to mention how bad a** the scene was

Granted what editors cut and keep in films is largely subjective from one standpoint, but professional from another since it's their craft.
For example, you wanted the lightsaber construction scene kept in Return of the Jedi. You're right it didn't take anything away from the story, but it didn't add much either. Plus omitting it adds an element of surprise when Luke uses it for the first time. It alerts audiences that he has a brand new weapon and its reveal is much more exciting. The new saber isn't jarring enough to question and the pacing of the film isn't haulted by a random scene of him constructing it. Plus, if producers wanted the film to be a certain length then cutting down a short scene like that was the most logical.
Simply being a "badass" scene and "not taking away" from the story isn't enough to keep some shots in. You have to worry about pacing, run time length, how smoothly it cuts into the movie / surrounding scenes and if it's really needed. In the case of the lightsaber construction, I can say with 110% certainty there was no real necessity for it.

MemberMothra LarvaeApr-30-2014 2:22 PMMost of the time when you see a deleted scene you quickly understand why it was deleted. I'm going to guess that the deleted scene takes away from the movie. Therefore, I don't want the deleted scene reinstated.
