M.U.T.O Create MUTOs in hopes that they will destroy Godzilla - One point of speculation.

AdminSpaceGodzillaFeb-27-2014 12:08 AMOkay, I've seen the new trailer, I dunno, 30 times? In between posting news and reading everyone's ideas here, I've had a few of my own ideas floating about in my mind which I'd like to share. Granted, I'm sure I'm not the only one to have these ideas, as it's a pretty solid speculation to roll with. Let me know what you think, if you agree, or if you have alternative ideas regarding my theory by replying below!
Okay, so my focus for this one (of many) theories, involves what the M.U.T.O organization is, and what the MUTO monsters are. Remember, the MUTO monsters are being marketed as MUTOs, not M.U.T.O. M.U.T.O is the organization.
My theory is this:
Godzilla was awoken in 1954, as per mentioned in the trailer. He was not created, he was specifically woken up. This could have been brought on my nuclear testing, OR it was just that time again for Nature to reset itself. I like to think back to Prometheus - sometimes in order to create, one must first destroy. Godzilla has always been the embodyment of nature's wrath, and could very well symbolize the recreation of planet Earth - eradicating all existing life for new life to form.
Watanabe (Serizawa) even states that "The arrogance of man... is thinking nature is in our control... and not the other way around." - insinuating that yeah, Nature is about to kick our ass and its going to use Godzilla to do so.
So, Godzilla wakes up, he's been asleep for eons, perhaps in a hidden, underground pocket. In an attempt to kill him before he reaches civilization, the military throw nukes at him and they think they kill him. Godzilla (who was not created by the atom bomb) gets rocked by the bombs and knocks him out essentially.
15 years go by, Godzilla has mutated, grown an immunity to atomic radiation, his body now infected with the atomic energy has transformed and turned a once dangerous animal into a world destroying machine.
This is the part that I'm unsure about - something wakes him up. Whether it be that his coma has subsided and his body has completed adapting to the atomic radiation, or something else, he wakes up 15 years later, ready to finish the task he was originally, instinctively set on doing in 1954 - destroying the world and resetting the balance of nature.
In Godzilla's absense, the government, now aware that such a creature exists, began searching for other life forms and even open up a secret branch for the research - M.U.T.O. They came across other, large, prehistoric creatures, hidden under ground, wherever. They run tests, trying to harness their power for the good of mankind and as a defense against Godzilla.
But, the creatures they created, the MUTOs, escape. After being exposed to a radioactive leak, I'm assuming, they too adapt and evolve from the radioactive energy. Once they've escaped, they head out into the world, and hide in those massive sinkholes we saw earlier on in the viral marketing campaign. Since they were originally a diverse collection of test subjects, we have multiple types of Monsters now, some hide under ground, some fly and some just invade like locusts - those would be the spider-like ones.
The way I see it, there are 3 main MUTO categories:
- The winged Muto (probably only one of them - the biggest one too)
- The spider/crab like Muto (the ones which attack the airport, the cities, etc...)
- The centipede like Muto (the one seen in the comic con teaser, which also burrows under ground, like centipedes do)
While all this shit show is just getting started, Godzilla wakes up again, now in present day. Whether by nature's instinctive drive or by chance, Godzilla has awoken at a bad time. The world is now being overrun by these new Monsters, which like Godzilla, have grown in strength due to the radioactive exposure.
Godzilla's initial task of wiping out all life 15 years ago is now challenged by a new threat, which will not go down as easily as Humanity will.
Suffice to say, Godzilla has one hell of a job to do and he gets right to it, by destroying city after city, Muto after Muto until.... I don't know.
That's where my imagination hids a road block. Does Godzilla go to sleep after wiping out the Muto? Or is he killed like in the original? I don't want to say he dies, but I think he might. Oxygen Destroyer style.
But, as always, nature must always keep a balance, and as the credits are about to roll, we learn that Godzilla is not alone, that there could be another, in hibernation, or even a baby, which waits, growing in the underground refuge its mother/father/whatever lived in for those eons before they were needed.
It's along ass post and if you read it all, kudos! Now, I bring up a lot of speculative ideas in this topic, so I'm interested to hear what all of you have to add or debate. Again, these are only ideas, but they seem like they could hold water.
What are your thoughts?

MemberMothra LarvaeFeb-27-2014 12:13 AMDayum! I love speculating, but this is a very solid theory. I feel that the "Awakening" comic will definetely show us Godzilla's origin before the film, if it turns out to be even close to this it'll excite me for the film even more.

AdminSpaceGodzillaFeb-27-2014 12:18 AMIndeed, I hope it doesn't reveal too much though. I like there to remain some mysteries by the end of the film. Something we can wonder about and debate on until the sequel(s) come around. Contrary to modern movie-goers, I don't want to be spoon fed all the answers. I want to think and use my imagination. It's what makes film so powerful and so memorable.

MemberMothra LarvaeFeb-27-2014 12:30 AMI like what you've written! However I've always hated the baby Godzilla concept. The original and the '80's remake are by far my favourite of the films. In the '80's version they lured him into a volcano and blew it up in an attempt to make a tomb/grave before we hear a speech along the lines of "We fucked with nature and got our heads smashed in. Probably should stop doing that".
I know Edwards has spoken about wanting to do a sequel, so perhaps G man doesn't die at the end of this film. Hibernation, perhaps?

MemberMothra LarvaeFeb-27-2014 12:30 AMi like how the general thought of godzilla in this film (since they are going back to the roots) is that hes just evil, but instead they turn one on us and make him an anti-hero where we need him to save us all.
He's the hero we deserve, but not the one we need right now, so we'll nuke him, because he can take it. Bcause he's not a hero, he's a silent guardian, a watchful protector, the dark kn- erm i mean the king of the monsters

AdminSpaceGodzillaFeb-27-2014 12:41 AMhahaha, TDK reference was funny. Yeah, I'm not sure. Aside from the [SPOILER]
...
Nautilus falls line in the draft sheet which leaked months ago, I don't see Godzilla dying. Hybernation is definitely an option. Perhaps they try bombing him after they submerge him in one of the giant sinkholes?
I'm also not keen on the Baby Godzilla concept. I would much rather them explain that there are pockets under the Earth that contain sparse echosystems, which contain massive, prehistoric creatures, and that Godzilla is one of a few different types. That would set up both Godzilla for a sequel AND an origin for any future Monsters.

MemberMothra LarvaeFeb-27-2014 12:57 AMNice speculation bro, I have my own one. I was thinking about it, my thoughts were that the Nuclear tests in the 50´s created new super-species, several governments and corporations chase these news animals and hide everything, they start to experiment with the creatures, using radioactive things to mutate them, trying to convert them in weapons, when they think they´re ready, they tested it; so they release one of these "weapons" and it destroys a whole city, contaminating it with nuclear radiation, like chernobyl; inmediately, they hide it saying that it was an earthquake or something; 15 years later, Joe Brody is studing in that place and discovers that it wasn´t a natural disaster, then he start further investigate, when he discovers it all, he confronts the M.U.T.O. organization / an evil corporation / the government, and he tells them that he knows everything, then, the trailer begins.

MemberMothra LarvaeFeb-27-2014 1:25 AMChris ya did alright but there's one thing that you said that makes no sence to me is the fact that the flying muto is gonna be the big baddy for Godzilla to take on and I just cant buy that, also the centipede monster was removed and replaced with the eight legged mutos, but if you remember a while back Gareth said that there were only two monsters, now personaly I think he was lieing, and ill show you why.
Now in my personal opinion compared to what weve heard of the eight legged mutos, that is by far to large to be one of them, and it dosnt look like something the winged muto would have as an appendage, now I think this is the big baddy, and to me that looks like a very primitive gigan claw, now im not saying its gigan, but when I look at it I can clearly see some sort of metalic sheen in the claw itself, plus another reason I say that is because we clearly see some sort of energy discharge when it strike's the ground leading me to belive that on top of cutting with the appendage, it also carry's a concusive force of energy that could do some serious damage if it hit something, and the big reason I see this as the big monster is because we only see the tip of the appendage, so after it sinks in you realise that whatever that thing is, it could easily be the size of Godzilla, anyway thats how I see the monster situation.

MemberMothra LarvaeFeb-27-2014 8:44 AM@Valkorin Now Im a pretty stupid person so I can be wrong but don't bugs or insects walk on the tip of their legs. So that could mean Godzilla cut off or blew off the Mutos wings and when it fell down it didn't land right.

MemberMothra LarvaeFeb-27-2014 10:02 AMHey, within that GIF I notice possibly another appendage, to the right after the footfall. It might be a light pole or something though, it's pretty straight. Never noticed this before. But it *might* be another leg.

MemberMothra LarvaeFeb-27-2014 10:48 AMThis seems like a very solid theory and very believable. This would be a very good movie to watch.

MemberMothra LarvaeFeb-27-2014 11:02 AMMy theory is that leaked script was real and the Muto are trying to kill Godzilla.

MemberMothra LarvaeFeb-27-2014 4:07 PM@Valkorin I agree with you about the clawed muto. I've watched that part of the trailer over and over again - frame by frame. My conclusion is that the scene takes palce on a building rooftop and what you see in the near background is only part of its body (which I originally thought was being dragged along the ground). If this is correct, then the clawed muto would be as big ad Godzilla.
I could however be completely wrong on this. I guess we will have to wait until the movie comes out.

MemberMothra LarvaeMar-06-2014 9:22 AMgood speculation. but it looks like you've told the film's plot. Hopfully the awakening comic will be a prequel to this and just as good.
