Our entire team stopped short suddenly and froze, alert. We heard nothing more. So I looked at my group and spoke up.

“Obviously, he’s gotten into the city.” I continued, “So, its our job to get him out, and hopefully neutralize him in the process.”

“But,” Emily, the only girl in my squad and my wife, said. “We’ve always worked in the jungles. Used stealth and camouflage, now we’re out of our element.”

The rest of the group nodded in agreement nervously.

“We don’t need that though. All we need is our intelligence and cleverness. Now, we face the monsters that are at our door, and bring the fight to them! We’ve been hit, now it’s time to hit back. Now, are we going to back down, or are we going to look that beast in the eyes and avenge the ones that have been lost?!”

The group all cheered and cocked their guns.

“Good.” I continued. “Because here we go.”

The group and I drove the city for hours, until we decided to rest and eat by the stadium nearby. The sun was setting and everybody was hungry. After dinner we started to pack up and get ready for another search. We shut the trunk on the jeep and turned on the ignition-

As The Reaper suddenly lunged out of one of the stadium’s dark gates with a vicious roar. We all screamed as the mighty jaws slammed shut right next to the car. We put into drive and screeched off. But not fast enough, as the Reaper bit down on Marcus’ leg and flipped him up in the air, catching him and crushing him in his mouth. We didn’t even have time to mourn, as The Reaper looked at us and snarled. Tanner gunned the engine and we speed off. The T. rex followed behind at a surprisingly fast pace. The rest of the group and I fired our guns in desperation. The Reaper jerked in surprise, but the bullets weren’t enough to do anything but minor pain, like a bee sting. The Reaper roared in fury, a deafening bellow that would scare a pride of lions.
I took my rifle aimed carefully and fired, the bullet spiraling toward his knee. Bullseye. The bullet wouldn’t do much damage, but it surprised him enough to make him lose his balance. He hit the ground with a resonating thump, and twisted, retching in frustration, trying to get up. Then he laid still, quiet. Tanner parked the car suddenly, and jumped out. I was too surprised to say anything. Tanner came up to the T. rex and started yelling.
     “This is for Marcus!”
Then, he cocked his gun. The mighty animal snarled, but Tanner aimed and went for the trigger. The T. rex roared as the bullet hit him in the snout. However, the bullet was too small to do anything but infuriate the animal. Tanner yelled again, this time incomprehensible. Slowly and quietly, the T. rex’s jaws creaked open, and a thick muscular tongue snaked out. Tanner didn’t notice, as the slimy muscle slunk at him.
“TANNER!” I yelled.
But it was too late, the forked indent at the tip of the tongue wrapped around his leg and snapped him back. With a yelp of surprise, Tanner was whipped into the animal’s mouth. The T. rex rolled over and flexed it’s muscular legs, as it started to get up. The great beast was dripped blood from the futile bullet wound on it’s cheek. The Reaper stretched out his leg, treating his knee wound and the mighty leg rearticulated, barely making it anything but sore. Then he roared victoriously, and lunged for the car. I started the car and screeched off, as the open jaws lunged for me and my team.

The speech sound familiar, but I can't place it right now.

Good Chapter.

Of course I'm the one to ask this question: What kind rifle?

I always imagined it as a Savage M-110

That's a nice rifle.

Sure is. I always thought it was really good, and wasn't that ugly at all. But people seem to hate the look of the rifle just because of the bolt action, but thats what gives such power and accuracy.

I love bolt action. My .22 is a Savage TRR-SR with a Tasco 6-24x42 AO scope. It is tactical, and with the exception of a bipod, looks like a much bigger gun.

The action has nothing to do with power and accuracy. Power is in the round (a .50 BMG does the same damage wether it's out of a semi or bolt), and accuacy is in the barrel and shooter. With .50 BMG, the Semis actually have lower recoil due to the gas operated chambering system. Bolt action is more reliable, and if you ask me, feels more badass and bolt action rifles look better.

Bolt action actually may not have to do with power, but i believe it does have to do with accuracy. I could be wrong. But I agree they look good. Btw, the speech I based it off of was from Pacific Rim.

I knew it was familiar.

Bolt action is simply more reliable and easier to maintain than semi. Accuracy is all in the barrel, trigger, and shooter (provided all the screws are tight).

For example, say I have two .50 cal sniper rifles. One is bolt, one is semi. They both have 32" heavy barrels. They both have bipods (that also helps accuracy), and both have 2 pound trigger pulls. The wind is minimal, and I'm shooting at 400 yards (very close range for a .50). They would both get hole through hole accuracy with the same shooter (I've been informed by my neighbour that I could be a S.W.A.T sniper, her son is a cop), and the difference in the group size would be so little it wouldn't matter.

Keep in mind, snipers hit 98% of the shots they take. The longest confirmed sniper kill was something like 1500 yards with a McMillan Tac 50 (or Accuracy International AS50) bolt action sniper rifle. The conditions were perfect for a long range shot (little wind, warm temperature, etc.). Most of the time, you don't get to take a 1500 yard shot, but 1 mile seems to be the standard .50 cal range, and the Barrett M82A1 (a semi auto) has achieved that before (6 or 7 rounds at around a mile, no misses).

Thats true, i was mixing them up. Thanks for the info. But yep. Thats the speech. Did you like this chapter? I try to make them as realistic as possible.

I did like it, yes.

I'd imagine that a .338 Lapua wouldn't even slow a T-Rex down, but the surprise part, nice idea, I could see that happening.

Like I said bullets wouldn't really do much to a Rex. I mean think of the comparitive size. So I agree. And what surprise part are you referring to?

When you said that the shot to the knee surprised the Reaper and he fell.

Ah. Yep. I figured that it would just surprise him, like a sudden push on your knee makes you fall. But thats all it would really do. Im quite proud of the tongue scene too.

Yeah. I've got a scene in TS:JP where Terrance takes a .50 cal to the head and the only reason it gave him a headache was because it was between the eyes inside 20 feet.

Thats true though. Bullets would hardly do anything at all except piss it off. But did you like the tongue scene? Just wondering. However, I agree, it woukd give them a headache or a tiny bee-sting sore (maybe) but thats about it.

The tongue scene was good.

It gave Terrance a headache, and the shooter (don't want to give too much away) managed to escape him.

Nice chapter. Really enjoyed it.

Keep in mind that many people have died for their beliefs; it's actually quite common. The real courage is in living and suffering for what you believe in. -Brom-
