Fragments of a hologram rose: Re-seeing Blade Runner by Chris Rogers

The postcard is a white light reflection hologram of a rose. Holding
it carefully between thumb and forefinger, he lowers the hologram toward
the hidden rotating jaws. The unit emits a thin scream as steel teeth slash
laminated plastic and the rose is shredded into a thousand fragments. Parker
lies in darkness, recalling the thousand fragments of the hologram rose. A
hologram has this quality: recovered and illuminated, each fragment will
reveal the whole from a different angle.

I like how Chris was able to draw a connection to Ridley's NY helicopter shuttling, with the service to/from the Pam Am midtown helipad that eventually was discontinued, permanently (after the 1977 accident). That particular service was unique, as it had the aircraft using the rooftop helipad of one of NYC's tallest skyscrapers. It originally came from the vision of Pan Am founder Juan Trippe, and was labelled as part of his wild 'futurist' dreams. Critics also called that shuttle service a reckless PR gimmick that was merely about promoting Pan Am.

A helicopter ride over Manhattan is quite the BR-like experience, and would be even more so if one were landing on a skyscraper helipad. In 2011 alone, there were roughly 40,000 recorded 'air-taxi' helicopter flights to/from Manhattan. Of course, there are continuous public efforts to ban what would be considered non-essential flights (taxi/tourist), utilizing the area's many heliports.

You're all welcome (+thanks).
