::UPDATE 07/11/2013:: The new game is not tied to any particular film, not even George Miller's long-delayed Mad Max: Fury Road which is due in cinemas some time next year, so this digital Max is not modeled after any real-world actor. Even so, the Australian flavour of Miller's original trilogy was a large part of their distinctive charm. It seems that many people have been voicing their disapproval of the vocal casting, and Avalanche has been listening. Last week, studio founder Christofer Sundberg announced via Twitter that the finished game would give an Australian twang to Max Rockatansky. The tweet read: "Attn. fans who want Max to have an Aussie accent in #MadMaxGame : It shall be so. We admire your loyalty. You have been heard." This is great news for long-term fans of the films, who have been waiting decades for a game set in this nasty post-apocalyptic world. Thanks to : BrisbaneTimes.com for the news! ::UPDATE:: Outraged gamers and hardcore fans have launched a petition on Change.org to plead for Avalanche Studios to give Max an Australian voice. As it stands, the decision was made to give Max "generic" sounding American voice which doesn't fit the character and negates the hero's place in popular-culture and is a bit of an affront to Australians who hold the character and movies so dear (and also to global purists). Stephen Farrelly, the editor of Ausgamers.com, wrote that the decision was an "affront to Australians who hold the character and movies so dear." As seen on Change.org's website: Avalanche Studios: Hire an Australian actor to portray Max in the Mad Max videogame. Mad Max is an important part of Australian cinema and pop-culture history. However, the series is as equally important worldwide, and is arguably one of the most recognisable and referenced post-apocalyptic tales ever told. The titular hero, Max, was played by Mel Gibson whose Australian heritage came across as a gruff, stoic and hardened portrayal of a man who'd lost everything, but still had a sense of hope. Avalanche Studios has, however, chosen to have Max voiced by a "generic" American voice-actor so that Max can appeal to a "generic" crowd. This negates the hero's place in popular-culture and is a bit of an affront to Australians who hold the character and movies so dear (and also to global purists). We're not asking for Mel Gibson, but finding an Australian voice-actor who can channel the Max of the popular films would just be the right -- and reverent -- thing to do. Please Avalanche, have a heart and give us the Max we all love. G'DAY MATE! Petition Made by AUSGAMERS.COM Click Here to Visit Their Site You can show your support and sign the petition here: Change.Org The game is being developed by Avalanche Studios, who are behind the Just Cause series. The game will be hitting the shelves in 2014 on the PC, Playstation 3 and 4, and the Xbox 360 and One. They only need 1,500 votes and only need 137 more votes! What do you think of Avalanche's decision to make Max a generic character? Tell me your opinions below! Resource: dailytelegraph.com.au

This is awesome, thanks for the support guys. I'll be doing a radio interview with ABC Radio Broken Hill this morning -- where the first movie was primarily shot -- to talk about the petition and Avalanche's decision. Keep checking back for more on the game and petition too.

Why on earth would they not have him speak with an Australian accent?? That is so stupid, and it makes no sense. It's like having Superman speak with a Scottish accent or something.

Hell yeah! Why in the f**k wouldn't he have an aussie accent? That's just f**king stupid! Oh yeah, lets spend a ton of money making a game that would span generations, and millions of fans, and hope that it makes millions, and um yeah lets just give Max a generic voice. Oh my god! What morons!
