MemberNoobJun-01-2013 5:20 PMMy guess is because it would require too much power to remotely operate a 200ft+ robot. Direct control within the Jaeger allows little chance for error in case of some connection fluke. Plus, putting the pilots in the Jaeger would make them perform better as they are fighting for their lives.

MemberNoobJun-04-2013 1:43 PMWell from the Drift feature we see how the two merge as one. How do they deactivate the link?
Avatar shows a similar process, but the human is asleep when linked up. The deactivation happens when the Avatar falls asleep or the emergency shut down button is pushed (this can kill the driver if you interrupt the link while it's in progress. as seen in the movie when Quaritch does this.)
Compared with this movie, unlike Avatar, the Jaeger pilots are fully awake and conscious when they link up.
So how does the link with the Jaeger's really work when the two are wide awake and alert? Avatar's linking is easy to understand. You go in the machine, pass out, and wake up in the avatar body.
