Ridley Scott is set to direct Haldeman's Forever War with Dante Harper (D.W. Harper) to write the script: Haldeman’s book follows William Mandella, who is conscripted into the military following an attack on humanity’s colonies by the alien Taurans. He and his fellow recruits undergo a gruelling training regime on Earth and are then shipped off to fight via wormhole-like phenomena. When they eventually return to Earth, the time distortion means that decades or even centuries have passed at home and society has undergone massive changes, even though our heroes have experienced only a few months away - and each time they return, the world has changed beyond recognition from the Earth they signed up to fight. I'm not familiar with this novel, but from reading the blurb - it sounds great, looking forward to this, it will keep us busy until Prometheus 2/Bladerunner 2 are unleashed! @joeyjoe, I do think he will get to 'Prometheus 2' next. From The Hollywood Reporter... Fox confirms to THR that Scott and the studio actively are pushing ahead with a follow-up (stars Michael Fassbender and Noomi Rapace are signed) and are talking to new writers because Prometheus co-scribe Damon Lindelof might not be available. "Ridley is incredibly excited about the movie, but we have to get it right. We can't rush it," says Fox president of production Emma Watts, who also has overseen the successful reboots of the X-Men and Planet of the Apes franchises. A Prometheus sequel would be released in 2014 or 2015. I'm hopeful that Fox would not go back on this and end up with "egg on their face". And besides, in spite of (heck, maybe even because of) the divisiveness in response to the first one, a sequel should yield a healthy paycheck for the studio.

I remember reading that Scott obtained the rights to "The Forever War" back in 2008, after a 25 year wait or so. I also read there have been a couple other writers assigned to it since '08 (I think Harper is now the 3rd), so I'm not sure the addition of Harper tells us anything concrete yet. Scott's last comments seemed to indicate that, after 'The Counselor' finished post-production, he'd do 'Prometheus 2' then 'Blade Runner 2'. So, where would that leave 'The Forever War'? I have no idea. All I've read is Scott is VERY INTERESTED in these three movies, but probably has limited time (he's 74) to get to all of them. I think he needs to address 'Prometheus 2' first (especially with Fox Studios saying a release in 2014/2015), then it's up in the air for the other two. And then again, there has been talk of a third 'Prometheus' movie (a trilogy as a prequel linking into 'Alien). Makes one's head spin. I'd like to see him get to all of them (and I'd be happy with a third 'Prometheus' movie if one was necessary... it all depends on what they do in the second one).

Yeah Ridley will be kept pretty busy. I'd love to see him complete all of these! Why oh why did he wait so long to return to Sci-fi? Mind you Jake & Luke could always help their dad out!! ;-)

This does sound pretty cool. Kind of Verhoven's Starship Troopers-ish. Probably much different in style, though, I would hope, of course. In any case, I am thoroughly in favor of Ridley tackling more science fiction. Oh dear god I love the genre and lawd knows it needs more competent directors. This is apparently a very high-regarded novel, so I'll definitely have to look into it. I might get pretty excited about this... But yes, Prometheus 2 & 3 need to be done first! *gets a boner just thinking about it*

you guys do realise that RS can multi task, he was producing tv show ect while making prometheus and by the sounds of things part of the sequal was written with the first film. well atleast the part imediatly after Shaw and David leave lv223 for paradise.

yeah, but directing 3 films is an entirely different proposition than say....directing 1 film and producing 2 others etc. Although work load would be intense, directing 1 and producing 2 others etc is totally possible; directing 3 films at one time (and 2 of the 3 would be fairly massive undertakings)....good lord. I think im just scared that, eventually, prometheus is going to slip back onto the backburner..."development hell" so to speak. I just dont want that happening. I so cherish this new narrative/tangent (world of prometheus). Such a fun and interesting place!

at last offical news on the development of Paradise or whatever it will be called. to be honest if it took less then 2 years to develope i would be worried about the quality of the finished product, watching the furious gods docu makes you apreciate the amount of research and developement a film like prometheus undertakes and thats before they start rehersing scrips and filming. The Forever War sounds interesting like another film that will make the viewer think instead of sit there for 2hrs being spoon feed the plot like a total pleb. its another trilology 3 novels: the forever war is the first book , Seperate wars and other stories and Forever free. so if the first film is a success we might get another one.

I came across a note that RS appointed Matthew Michael Carnahan to start on the 4th draft of Forever War. This was in 2010 so this must still be on a movie-to-made plate for Prometheus Dirrctor. To me it seems like ther eis too much for RS to complete in a quality manner in this lifetime. However he could have people in place to complete his visions before he loses interest or the market. I am not familiar with the Forever War related books. For me bringing the Prometheus related movies to the screen would be just fine..
