MemberOvomorphNov-10-2012 12:53 PMFor readers interested in this subject I wrote out some ideas for Paradise in the Prometheus discussion area. Let me know what you think or add some new stuff. Knowing Ridley Scott he's a smart researcher and blends mythology and imagination together quite well. I hope him and his writers don't get too ancient Greek with the Paradise story-telling. They should read the Vedas and the descriptions of Heaven on Earth or the last Golden Age Earth and us humans experienced. Mount Sumeru was to the middle east or mount Kailas in India is what Mount Olympus was to tthe west or Greece. According to most ancient myth humans used to be giant gods and had powers like Dr. Manhatten according to the Vedic mythology similar to the ancient Greek gods. There's accounts of Atlantis by Plato, Edgar Cayce and the founder of a modern community called Damanhur in northern Italy who claims he time-travelled to Atlantis. There's evidence of a Lemuria from ancient Polynesian cultures that predates Atlantis as well describing humans as giants and all-powerful. By giant I mean up to 100 feet tall but able to enlarge or shrink their form. Humans were genetically shrunk down and stripped of their immortality and powers apparently no longer able to be gods. Ego and vanity started the process of a dark age falling on Earth. Atlantis was corrupted and became overrun by psychopaths and evil spirits...their genetic experiments failed like the xeno experiments so the land was destroyed by tsunami and earthquake.

MemberOvomorphNov-10-2012 6:48 PMI have a feeling that the events of many different Golden Age myths will be mixed together, broken down/concentrated and then re-combined in interesting ways while being explored in Paradise, played out by what happened to the Engineers' Paradise.
I keep referencing Atlanteans, but they would only be a part of it. What you're talking about with the many factions described in the Vedas may form another big part of it. It already seems the Engineers can represent a group in almost any of the ancient myths, so I think they drew from them all when they created the Engineers. Giving them some traits of the lower rebellious factions in each set of myths. Predicting how the story will relate to the myths is hard because they're referencing many different cultures, and there's no way of knowing for sure which pieces they intend to use and mix. However I do believe comparative mythology could help us out here, and may even be the reason Weyland was so sure they had immortality...
This leads me to believe Paradise will hold multiple meanings and have an above/below thing going on. Heaven on Earth aka the Garden of Eden and the Haven above.
The engineers world may not be much of a Paradise. It may be an Engineer refugee world, which may confuse David and Shaw at first. It's more like a safe haven then heaven, in my view of where this is all going. The Engineers only became as aggressive as they are over time because of recurring disagreements with the Elders and true gods, who punish more effectively with things like massive floods and cataclysms described in the myths. It would be a safe haven for all the Engineers who are trying to avoid the Elders' punishment... A paradise, or an oasis, out in the vast open desert-like regions of space controlled by the Elders and the true gods.

MemberOvomorphJan-09-2013 3:11 PMSorry it has taken me so long to respond Mala'kak...good points. I think Scott wants to get to who created all this rather than another side plot about being on another LV moon situation like in Prometheus. It seems the Engineers are the Titans who stole the "fire" of life from their god creators to create humans and other creatures. Being naive and new "creators" that fire/xeno experiment got out of control on these moon and planet bases where they were outposted on.
I'm curious how much Scott will draw from ancient writings about a utopian paradise or if it will be utopian at all...seems he likes the sinister mystery of things rather than gushy new age crap where everything is pretty rainbows, fairies, unicorns and everything being wrapped in gold. Maybe he'll opt for an ecclectic mix of many things...who knows. I know he will use his imagination to create his own painting of the Paradise reality.
