I was discussing the upcoming sequels to Blade Runner and Prometheus with someone, and trying to figure out when Ridley would have time to work on both films. I then had a random thought: What if the sequels were actually the same, single film? Not saying they are, or should be, but after seeing the link between the films in the Prometheus DVD extras, I thought "what if"? Yeah, I know, I should probably put the bong down now.

interesting idea. however, de lauzirika (producer of prometheus blu ray) recently stated that the blade runner/prometheus connection on the blu ray was more of an easter egg for the fans (notice it was more of an implied connection than an objective/literal connection...no name mentioned etc.). de lauzirika said that he, rather than scott, came up with the aforementioned connection and that it shouldnt necessarily be considered canon (though ridley didnt object to said easter egg). Who knows. ive wondered the same thing concerning the timeframe. I have a sinking feeling that one of the two films is going to be pushed back...appreciably. Id love to see both films come to fruition, but at this stage in the game, the prometheus sequel is a bit more near and dear to my heart (blade runner functions beautifully as a standalone where prometheus was designed as a two parter (at least) from the very beginning).

Let me put it to you this way. They haven`t technically lied about anything they`ve said in their statements. Search through some of the comments about the shared Blade runner universe ideas from the past if you have the time, and notice how Lindelof recalls his story of always thinking the two universes were connected on separate occasions. It`s like a script he`s repeating... he and Ridley must have talked about Bladerunner and the shared universe idea... Ridley has said he envisions them as going on in the same universe in the past as well. There are subtle things hidden in the films that connect them already, and now the easter egg in the Weyland files. its very clear to me what`s going on... deception on a massive scale surrounding this project and the next projects. I`ve only begun to scratch the surface with my talk of an upcoming David-led rebellion against all of humanity, the engineers, the elders, and the true gods. If anything Bladerunner 2 is a prequel to Prometheus in some ways... Paradise adds clarity to it all and explores the Engineer-Elder civil war and competition among the corporations back on Earth leading to the Weyland Yutani merge. The universe timeline would then go Bladerunner, Bladerunner 2, Prometheus, Paradise, Persephone(or Poseidon) and then the original Alien. If this pans out we`re looking at four movies that tell the story leading to and complementing the original Alien series. Bladerunner 2 would be its own thing and almost entirely connected to Bladerunner until the last 10 minutes. Where we find out it is in fact somehow going on before Prometheus and Paradise + exists in the universe (and that Predators have been shoved out, shown up, completely removed from the universe and replaced with new elements. A hybrid series done right because thematically the androids and replicants share similarities, and now motivations and desires that are slowly being mixed together. Bladerunner was about the replicants destroying their creators. This series will be about android-replicants destroying, dethroning, and replacing their creators. Becoming corrupted by power and becoming corrupted leaders. Becoming gods and kings, stealing power from those above them in the hierarchy and creating a new order for the series. Deceiving the humans into believing they are still running the company... Subjugating humans and the completely mechanical androids who come later and pretend to be more human than they are. Portraying things a certain way. These ones are actually a little too close, a little too human, uncontrollable like the Replicants. Weyland believed his experiment with the David 8 had not worked. David is becoming a real boy because he`s a mixture of replicant and android and can understand emotion. Weyland wanted a real son he could still control but it backfires and David`s emotions are becoming real.. Maybe not one and the same movie unless plans have changed a little, but part of the same new franchise. A new bio-mechanical hybrid franchise, where the androids in Prometheus and Paradise are secretly more like hybrid android-replicants... Bio-mechanical. A bridge and not an end to either series. Prometheus is the bridge going between each connecting side and definitely not a direct prequel to the original Alien. Or really a prequel to it all by the time all is said and done. Paradise still has to happen and then Poseidon or Persephone directly after Paradise and before the original Alien. Someone said Terminator should be connected to this universe, but we don`t need that when there were already subtle links to Bladerunner made by the director. We have enough synthetic people ready to turn against humanity in this story, and if they add in Blade runner in a balanced way and instead of the Preds it can lead to things much bigger than the inclusion of skynet that are right up that alley... except on this side of the bridge the synthetic people wish to steal from, destroy, and control the creators of their creators as well. Vickers would then be neither robot nor real... she is both and neither completely... So Theron was not lying, Vickers 1 is dead and kind of like a pleasure model lol, adding new meaning to Chance and Ravel talking about a lapdance with miss Vickers and what Shaw could be based on. They know she`s not human, and not completely real. She`s more like a replicant design and despises the fact David is more mechanical and Weyland prefers him. What happens in the last 10 mins of Bladerunner 2 may set up what happens in Paradise and the many questions it will cover. `Big things have small beginnings-- if AVP had been set-up properly and had things done at least somewhat well or better, then it would not have failed to lead the series. This is a new experiment being led by someone who will eventually balance out the hybridization of Blade runner with the Alien universe. Which means slowly building the connections on screen.

i can understand why Vickers could be similar to a replicant thats why she doesnt bleed white blood. it would also support they theory that she doesnt know shes synthetic like Racheal in blade runner that was discussed in another topic, but why do you think Dr Shaw is an android?

I think it can go either way with Shaw. She could be a true human that's capable of logically and instinctively surviving a situation. In one of David's double meanings he's being a bit sarcastic when he says "I didn't think you had it in you, poor choice of words". He absolutely knew the Alien was in her but here he's subtly displaying how he lies by implying a double meaning. It wasn't really a poor choice of words, because he deliberately tried to show Shaw his form of lying... he may actually admire her a little. He doesn't only mean the Alien comment, he also means she has something "in her", he almost compliments her survival skills. However, he means a little more than what he's saying. He means she has something in her that the rest of the crew lacks... she may be a little like him and Vickers or she may be a balanced human who's beliefs/memory forms much of her personality and allows her to mitigate the influence of the nature of the culture she was born into. A culture where Weyland is king and the cliches are all incredibly old... Technology has moved forward, but because of Weyland's influence the soul of the culture has regressed. The crew are semi-emotionless or overly emotional like Charlie. There is something wrong with the earthborn culture of that time, they are ego-driven and illogical... this is all Weyland's fault as King/God and the way he mistreated his subjects over the years transfers onto the culture. Everyone was being manipulated by Weyland/David Shaw is slightly different. She has that certain something inside her that allows her to be logical, rational and instinctual at the same time... allowing her to survive when Vickers doesn't. If anything she's more real than Vickers and different from the rest of the crew, so David begins to realize she can and will go against Weyland's programming because she chooses what to believe and controls her own fate. David may actually admire this a little, but is surprised that this being survived... she has very good survival instincts and can think quickly, logically and rationally at the same time to remove the alien from herself. She masters her own fate in a way no other character in the series does except for maybe Ripley's sacrifice to kill the Alien inside her. She chooses how to respond, knows something is up when they're freezing her, choosing to believe something is very wrong. Something David steals from her dreams to not only influence her but also allow himself to change his own programming... he also chooses what to believe and it ties into him picking up everything, lying, and not informing the crew about any possible cultural clues he read along the way... Shaw could be real, or Vickers is a replicant-android and Shaw could have something in her too-- but really it could go either way. They wouldn't want to spoil the surprise if this is the case, but if Vickers returns Shaw could begin to question if she is real. question her beliefs (the false memory/belief about her father Weyland implanted...) and finds out who her true creator is... It could begin to look like she's not real but then it could turn out she's a human who Weyland tried to control through her dreams. She could still be human and simply has the right stuff "in her" and is not as irrational or illogical as the rest of the crew... David doesn't like most humans, which can be extrapolated from his response to Holloway: "not too close I hope".

In the Weyland timeline there was a lawsuit filed against Yutani when they tried to steal the David design. What if Yutani successfully stole the replicant-android Vickers design at a much later date? They also have their own androids now, are more like the last line of defense against Weyland's chaotic reign, and work cooperatively with the military. They spy on Weyland secretly with the quiet eye software they gave him and much more, they know much more, almost all of what happened. More than the Weyland corp knows because David's not telling. The quiet eye tech was a pandora's box or trojan horse that weyland shouldn't have let into his company. They knew enough about the mission to become suspicious. If Weyland is king then Yutani evolved to be more like internal affairs; even during the lawsuit they only wanted the David design to analyze it and protect the population and colonies from any glitches and to make sure it's not "twitchy". Something the rorschach like test in the David viral is supposed to do (make sure they aren't becoming too real, more human than android.. analyzing their subconscious desires..) but these androids find ways to lie. Yutani could have been monitoring everything that Weyland was doing with his secret mission to protect the population from being further mistreated by Weyland or inadvertently affected because of Weyland's mission. They knew the risks and were thinking logically. They knew what their chaotic king was up to and are the only company who can stand up to him or clean up his mess at this time. Shaw said not to follow her but Yutani is way too interested and invested in what may happen and how that may affect earth. What if they show up with a Vickers 2 that Yutani created who is slightly different from the first Vickers. They successfully stole Vickers and at first Shaw doesn't know why Vickers and a Yutani team have come for her and David. Interfering with David's plan for the Engineers. In a way Yutani inherits the Bladerunner tech for a while and acts as a police force... repeating themes from Bladerunner, attempting to put an end to David's increasing power and reign. Trying to stop the rebellious android-replicants Weyland has unleashed on the universe. Eventually David involves himself with the Elders and Engineers, going between each group, manipulating each and making things worse... leading an android army, Weyland corp, Yutani, and the Engineers against the Elders and true gods... doesn't everyone want to kill their Elders?. He builds an army of corporations, forcing the merge when he becomes victorious over Vickers. A corporate/android army that can not be infected, can regenerate heads and has endless resources (like the hammerpede), wields the fire for a short while in the reignited Titanomachy. Unites all the groups/cultures together against an empire like in Lawrence of Arabia. Instead of a kingdom, David is building his Empire: the Weyland-Yutani Empire. He associates with the past kings and Queens to give the image that a Weyland or Yutani is still in control... he paints things a certain way and becomes a leader like Lawrence. Uses propaganda like the Pharaohs. He's the closest thing to a prince in his own mind. The Weyland lineage has been severed and the reborn Vickers would work for Yutani. A potential head of the company/body that is regrown like with the hammerpede. David's head is different, his brain needs to be kept alive... he's the head that gets to live after being severed from the body/company because he has bio-mechanical near-immortality. The reason the crew is so illogical, semi-emotionless, fake, and semi-unquestioning can be explained by Weyland's influence on the culture and the fact that many of them are emotionally not real, hiding agendas, things are being hidden and the emotions they display are fake or ego-driven like Charlie/Weyland. If Vickers and David are not what we're expecting it totally changes the movie. The real humans are more robotic than the members of the crew who don't know that they could be replicant-android hybrids with false memories and beliefs. Everything was being manipulated and Weyland could make David go into peoples dreams and make adjustments to the memories/beliefs that have been implanted like in Bladerunner. It's a false memory that's being played in Shaw's subconscious but I can't say for sure if Weyland simply found a way to do that to human's dreams, or if Shaw is something different. I think it's better if they play with the idea and then reveal Shaw is real but had the false memory planted in her dreams to influence her beliefs. Weyland/David gave her bad programming and it backfires. Shaw's desire to live by her "father's" words and choose what to believe drives her to continue to become a hero of the story.

The reason she could still be real is that David can enter Weyland's dreams too and Weyland is a human. But if she isn't real I strongly believe she's more like a replicant so that her dreams, memories and beliefs could also be manipulated in cryo-sleep. What if David was even subtly manipulating Weyland or the whole crew through their dreams, he doesn't warn Weyland about the bio-weapons like Shaw does. As well Ridley, and Lindelof had a habit of only calling David a "robot" in the run up to the film-- a vague term that may not accurately reflect what David is. Ridley also said "there may be two robots". But so far nothing has come of that statement. He actually referred to David as a replicant a few times in interviews. Was this a mistake? Or does Ridley almost consider them one and the same now? Did he almost instruct everyone to consistently refer to David as a robot, and never an android? Except Fassbender who kept calling David an android or a robot in some interviews. I think they set it up to be true after we get the Vickers reveal and some info on what David is. When David disconnects from the dream helmet we see a brief flash of him standing there without the helmet, almost between Shaw's dream world and the real world. Almost like he was in her dream as well somehow, imprinting and projecting himself into her subconscious world. In the deleted scene he may have enjoyed talking about Paradise and influencing her further.
