I wonder if the Engineer had been kept alive briefly prior to his death by the D

The Deacon pecking its way out of the Engineers body is an analogy to the eagle pecking its way into the human mans liver. Here is a reversal and we have a beak-shaped protrusion (in this instance, the back of the Deacons pointy-head) pecking its way OUT of the alien mans body roughly near the liver area instead of in. It seemed as though the producers were being ironic and having the 'Pecking Action' of a beack-like object from some creature pecking its way out of anothers body. Maybe the Deacon 'fed' upon the liver aswell as many other internal organs of the Bio Engineer before it emerged from within his torso cavity. He may not be kept alive but because it (The Deacon) got out of the Engineers body the way it did I wonder if their is going to be some sort of purgatory for him and his 'sins' for want of a better word. I think he suffered too much trauma to his chest cavity area but I was just observing and pondering possible solutions.

I fail to see how Deacon has to do with the eagle in the myth... And why to poke so much into religious stuff? Purgatory? as in LOST? Seriously? Wasn't it clear [and enough] with the "Prometheus" reference in the Weyland's TED? And the Deacon as a cruxifed being in one of the murals? And the other one with the Engineer as a sort of Creator?

David it was just an idea, thats all. O.k. I was just thinking of ideas but watch the end part of the film again and think about it again.

My take- and very broad too... The Engineers did something (like create the Terran Human Race?) and like the Titan Prometheus, therefore will be punished for eternity by having a perverted byproduct of their creation run amok for just as long (the xenomorphs?)...

That's interesting aircraftfixer, so instead of a single engineer giving us life, they "all" did or at least this group did. I hadn't thought of that before, it's an interesting theory, maybe they are being punished by a higher power or their creator...

I still don't understand how the Deacon managed to fit into the Engineers' chest cavity, it looked as big as the Engineer it came out of.

Cypher, your words are relevant. :)

Its almost as if as it grew bigger and bigger within the Engineer it either dissolved, ate up or evaporated the innards for nutrients purposes and in doing so thus evacuated enough entrails out of the way so as to contiually grow in their place. It sort of balanced its books grow size and development in equal proportion to growth space available., the two go in tandem together as a result. And at some point the plancental sac developed and shored up the rest of its dvelepmental processes until its eventual emergence during its 'birth'.

@Cypher I don't understand that either! Of course there are many things which don't quite make sense in Prometheus.

I can see why you might think that Cypher. I have mixed feelings about the true intentions and implications of what the Deacon truely stands for myself. I would like more clarity on that aspect of the film even if it is not presented during the film then at least in the writings and the script or the potential novelization pf the film may give more insight into the mystery surrounding the creature and what it actually represents for the franchise, if any after this - I hope so! :-)

It would beg the question, if Shaw left a warning for people not to land there, why didn't the Nostromo pick that up as well years later? Surely it would have picked 2 signals up in the same planetary system..............

This should seriously have been the events right before the original movie. Instead, it's a confusing mess of un-answered questions relating to both franchises. Poor effort I'm thinking more and more as time goes on.

Sorry, I don't recall Shaw or anyone else leaving any sort of beacon prior to their departure. I may have lightly skipped over that part in comment, I may have missed it and not paid it much mind. I think their may have been a beacon on board the Prometheus lifeboat, is that the warning signal you are talking about? Or a signal left on the Juggernaught somehow? You may have to remind me of the section of the film your talking about Cypher.

Hyper, the end of the film where Shaw is leaving a message for anyone that happens across the planet, saying there is nothing but Death there........... Did you miss that monologue of hers?...........

I like how Shaw closed out the recent past with a Warning message...and now is prepared to face the future what ever it is . I doubt if she thinks about ever goinjg back...only the furure..to find her past. For me I can't let go of the past storyline on the moon...and give more thought., to the next episode. I just don't want to devote as much energy in understanding Pro 2 as In have to Pro 1 in the last month.

Warning Beacon Hmm I was thinking about the final minutes of the Prometheus star ship. You can see the crash alert flashibng before janek and Crew as they chased down the Juggernaut. Wouldn't make sense that a beacon/transponder/ warning be automatically set in place on the moon? If anything some signal to identify the last known position of our Ship should be in place. Perhaps jsut sending the last report on prometheus by Shaw would be enough for werland Ciorp. to trasce the flight path to LV-223. As far as the Deacon/Engineer relationship the Last engineer's fgaste was sealed when he was face hugged. He deserved being used by the Deacon. I also think that the Engineer was not feeling/knowing anything happening after he hit the floor of the shuttle. May he rest in hell.
