There seems I think to be a bit of a block when describing how the derelict on LV-426 could play a part in a Prometheus sequel when its pointed out that it has been there thousands of years. I think Ridley Scott described it as potentially having been there thousands of years and while Dallas says the Space Jockey looks fossilised, he says it only 'looks' fossilised without any real evidence to back up his claim. Both seem like throwaway comments to me that are never really expanded upon that much. You could say the fossilisation process, if that is indeed what happened, was speeded up by the atmosphere on LV-426 if you really wanted to ignore the 'thousands of years' idea and fit it into the timeline. I think there is still conjecture as to how long it has been there and that leaves it open to be included at some point.

yeah...arguments can be made for multiple scenarios. Personally, im into the notion that the derelict has been sitting there on LV 426 for a min of 2000+ years (could have escaped the chaos that occurred when things went to hell on LV 223 only to crash and land on LV 426)...However, the derelict could have easily been laying on LV 426 for many many thousands of years.

How about hundreds of thousands of years.

That Derelict sceene could be shot just as the Sacrificial Engineer seeding life was. As an Analepse.

What's curious/interesting to me is: Weyland Industries (WI) knew about the xeno and the warning beacon -- but not about them being on LV-426. How do we know that? Because in ALIENS, van Leuwen tells Ripley that there are no aliens on LV-426 because colonists/terraformers "have been on LV-426 for years and never mentioned anything about any aliens." So they either didn't know the eggs were there or sent the colonists there to become hosts for the eggs/face huggers. Except if the latter, they wouldn't have let the colonists "stumble upon" the eggs after years and years; they would have directed to them to the eggs (which Burke does only after hearing Ripley's story. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.............

It would be nice to see the Original Space Jockey and his Derelict in any way possible...like something ancient...or...like as an important element of the plot. but this time he has to appear in the movie or otherwise

If the Derelict HAS been there for eons, then perhaps the eggs were the way the Engineers USED to do business; since replaced with the goo canisters.

That would make sense then that there were murals of the xeno in the Big Head Room in Pro' which held the canisters containing the "DNA" of the xenos. Sort of a "testament" to the xeno...

There is one theory that speculates the dead Space Jockey in ALIEN is not the Engineer. It is a bridge organism for birthing Xen/s. Why the Engineer designs their space travel gear after the dead elephantine being is still a mystery. Maybe it is out of respect for the species who willingly sacrifices themselves for a higher purpose, even though that purpose is for death & destruction. Another theory is that the Space Jockey is originally that fossilized being we see in 1979 ALIEN, an elephantine humanoid which the Elder Engineer creates as bridge organism for birthing all kinds of biological creations. The Jockeys get sick of serving the Elders, the Olympians in Greek mythologies, imagine your role in the universe is to strap yourself in the chair, go to a strange planet and let the Xeno infect you. Pretty horrible. So they decide to rebel against their creators, steal their bio technology so that they could force-evolve themselves closer to their creators, into a powerful, beautiful humanoids that will someday overthrow their Creators. Kinda tie into David's desire to free himself of Weyland's control.
