Saw the 3d Extended Trailer tonight on Wrath of the Titans 3d. Prometheous, as well as the new MIB, The Hobbit and Lock-Out trailer (another sci-fi for Guy Pearce by the way!) I must say that Prometheus looks gorgeous in 3-d. Eye candy galore! I can't wait! The imagery is just breath taking! My favorite out of the entire clip was of Shaw in her cryo. The depth of the "tube" in glowing yellow, the shimmering lights and streaming font of the 'tech' look really sharp. Just thought I'd share the news! So excited! Too bad the glasses suck! Why don't we have wrap around glasses by now?! The frames just hinder the view too much! I want to look up better glasses on the net before June. Any good links? Please share!

i just posted a discussion about the 3-D not too long ago. I totally agree man this movie looks amazing and as soon as i saw it in epic 3-D it blew me away. I highly recommend seeing Wrath just for the 3-D prometheus trailer it is way bad ass. mw3, I completely agree. The day Prometheus comes out I plan on seeing it in 3d, as well as 2d for sure. For sure. 2d will hopefully give the film that olde school feel. Just keep in mind that it was filmed with 3d tech... so it should be pretty both ways....

@mw3 - Sorry, 3-D is here to stay just as long as there's an option for 2-D.

Well, I am hoping to turn this thread into a good link for those of us who want to purchase "better" 3d glasses than the theater offers. I will do some research and post my findings here. In all hopes, I want to find a pair that "wraps" around your face to give the viewer a better way to see 3d films. Please, by all means help me out! If this item does not exhist, maybe some of your inventors out there should get on this mission! Hint hint! lol

Not sure if 3-D is gonna be adopted by the masses. There's a large group of people actively staying away from 3-D films. I will see one from time to time, but for the most part stay away from them. I also have several friends that won't see any movie in 3-D. I'm not seeing Prometheus for the first time in 3-D, but may see the second viewing in it if people say its worth it. It seems also if the screen isn't properly adjusted the picture can be quite dark and it's said films that are very dark the 3-D doesn't come across that well.

there is supposed to be alternative to the Real3D system, don't know the name right now, that has a much better brightness. If I find the name, I'll edit my post Edit: The two systems are RealD and Panavision 3D. The Panavision one is supposed to be much brighter. Problem is, RealD has a head start and a bigger foothold in the market. They are testing both systems on the public with Titanic 3D in Cali. Hopefully, the better tech will win out, but I wouldn't hold my breath

thanks Jim... but no banana. Those frames are still very 'rayban' if you will. I'm thinking more of visor! (Yes, i would wear a large 3d visor! lol) The director pair look the best from this site, with a larger lens. Still, I hope to find what I'm looking for. We shall see... (drum roll!)

The human eye is not physically capable of processing the images to your brain the way people think. It actually causes lots of problems. Why do you think there are 3 pages worth of warnings with 3D TVs and game systems etc etc.......... Personally, I feel like throwing up when I watch anything in 3D. 2D I'm fine with, even if it's the exact same thing I was watching in 3D.

Nicely said Cypher. I agree with everyone here, 2d is my favorite. Like tonight for example, I went to see Wrath of the Titans in 3d, and my eyes had to adjust for awhile after the movie. From time to time just watching Wrath, I had to take the glasses off to rub my eyes. All in all, 3d is a fad to where if it doesn't improve soon, it will die off again like the red/blue lens glasses. I would like to make a strong comment again about how pretty the 3d trailer was for Prometheus, but how often will I have to give my eyes a "break?" Exactly why I plan on seeing it in 2d for the most part. Jim, if you find that source for new 3d tech, please post it here! Thanks!

I totally agree about hating 3D......I can't stand it...it's a gimmick and it drives me up the wall will the watering eyes and the rubbing... That said....I do want to see 'Prometheus' in 3D once after I see it in 3D, just to compare the experiences as I've always been a proponent of experiencing filmas it was intended, on the big screen, in widescreen format, etc..and because it was filmed in 3D, I want to give just this film that one chance.....it's 'Prometheus'....

The other issue with 3-D is it can give me headaches sometimes and others also. I think it has more of a chance of taking off if they can do away with the glasses. I'm more impressed with the IMAX format. I think if more films were filmed in the IMAX format they would be more popular than 3-D.

Cinefan, I completely got a headache tonight as well. Maybe if my eyes were more used to watching 3d all the time they could adjust? Anyways, I don't think we should turn this thread into a total 3d discussion, it'd would never end!!!!! Keep to the glasses! I want a helmet with a huge 3d glass plate on it! Bah! lol

@Freeze, I edited my post earlier. The two technologies are being tested right now with Cameron's Titanic 3D conversion. One is using the more ubiquitous RealD technology, and the other is the Panavision 3D process, which is supposed to be much brighter.

I have to agree to the 3D problems too ... although I don't seem to have a problem with my eyes or get headaches ... I have only seen one 3D movie (Avatar) and Prometheus will be my second ... I will also see it again in 2D ... I love technology and am a sucker for gadgets but not when it's not totally right ... I think the main problem for a lot of people, watching 3D screens is, the 3D translates into a greater mental effort, making it easier to get a headache ... normally, each eye will see things at a different angle ... When that gets processed in the brain, that creates the perception of depth therefore the 3 dimensions in the movies are not exactly calibrated the same way that your eyes and your brain are ... If your eyes are a little off to begin with, then it's really throwing a whole degree of effort that your brain now needs to exert ... this disparity for some people will give them a headache ... I think they will get it right, 100%, one day ... but will it stay? ... that's another story ... @ Freeze Him - "Will 3d work with a 3d blue ray player and a non 3d HD? Just wondering?" Nah, you need both a 3D TV and 3D Blu Ray Player. The type of 3D on my TV is a new type of 3D for home cinema - Passive 3D. The glasses dont need batteries and are very cheap - about £2 a pair. They dont dull/darken the image, they dont flicker the image into each eye(which was a big cause of headaches in older 3D TVs) So yeah, no headaches so far. I think you just get used to it after watching a few times. Even the Nintendo 3D gave me major headaches and caused my eyes to go blurry at first LOL But you quickly adjust. Even though Im a fan of 3D, I still like watching my films in 2d and will watch Prometheus in both.

The problem with 3D is that it is something being force fed to our eyes, with the eyes fooling the brain and viceversa. In real life the eyes are immersed in a real 3d environment and they can shift the focal plane between objects at different distances. In 3D movies the eyes are forced to focus on one plane only, the projection screen, so there's no real freedom for the eye to wander through the picture and choose a different focal point. If something is blurred in the background (or in the front), it will stay blurred because that's how it was shot, yet the eye will naturally try to focus on it, trying to shift to a new, nonexistent focal plane. Hence the headaches. IMO the real-eye friendly breakthrough will be the introduction of holographic movies.
Ridley Scott will eventually tell us how the Queen was born. Right now we have the Deacon; coming soon the Mercury, the May and the Taylor.

3D is nothing yet...it is truly a gimmick, and a way to sell new equipment... Sorry, but I don't mind seeing a 2 minute trailer in it, but no way in heck I can sit through a movie where you're only getting "half" of it due to the way it works, and your brain is constantly being fried by conflicting messages---I always have a headache after about 5 minutes. No thanks.

*** Why Don't They, thanks for the info. I am going to have to once again "upgrade" my entertainment! I truely want the option for 3d in my home. 3d fad aside, it's nice to have options!
