The news cycle surrounding Alien: Covenant is starting to heat up in a major way. We recently posted a collection of still images that have come out, and a brand new video was released last week to celebrate being only one year away from the movie. Suffice it to say, even with a few other major sci-fi projects slated to arrive between now and the release of Alien: Covenant, fans of the genre are already itching to see this new installment.

Given that we've (presumably) got a little while to wait before we get too many new details about the film, it can be fun in the meantime to focus on a few side-projects. Chief among them for some fans is whether or not Alien: Covenant will wind up being the kind of flick to inspire an accompanying video game.

2012's Prometheus, a prequel film that was effectively the most recent piece of the Alien franchise, was a visual wonder that seemed primed to produce an excellent video game. Sure, there might not have been too much in the way of fast-paced action, but a simple exploration or mystery game with those visuals would have been captivating. However, Prometheus aside, this is a series that has produced some relatively recent games on completely different platforms and systems. Just consider a few of the most recent examples.

It wasn't that long ago in 2014 that Alien: Isolation came out, developed by Creative Assembly and published by Sega for Windows and consoles. Based on the Alien franchise but delving more into original territory concerning Amanda Ripley (daughter of Ellen) and her quest for her mother, it was an action/adventure experience that received a surprisingly positive reception. It's actually well worth finding and playing in advance of Alien: Covenant as one glowing review praised the way in which the game further expanded the lore of the series' universe.

If you're looking for a slightly more accessible title, there's also a casino game based on the franchise that's a beacon of good fun in a genre that can feel a little bit played out. Featured as part of a page of pop culture casino games at an online lottery platform, "Aliens" is a slot machine on the surface as well as an interactive experience packed with details from the films beneath. With a cast of original characters and a mini-game that lets you fire grenades at the Alien Queen, it goes above and beyond your average internet casino arcade, and is actually a great time for fans of the series.

And finally, for another accessible and perhaps surprisingly enjoyable option, Fox's lineup of iOS mobile games includes a few titles related to the Alien (and Predator) franchise. The best of them is AVP: Evolution, which basically puts you in the role of an Alien out to destroy the Super Predators. You can also play as a Jungle Hunter Predator in an attempt to kill off the Alien Queen. The game's graphics are top-notch for the mobile category, and it's one of the more complete action gaming experiences you'll find for your smartphone. As a nice perk, you can also design your own Alien or Predator character.

Given all of these examples, it seems to be anybody's guess whether or not Alien: Covenant will ultimately result in a game. On the one hand, Prometheus didn't, and there's no word of a Covenant game just yet. On the other hand, however, it's been proven that both Alien and Predator games can succeed pretty much anywhere.

Let's hope we do end up with a fresh game, as it would be a great addition to this franchise's total reach. But even if we don't, the examples above should provide some nice entertainment as we wait another year for the release of Alien: Covenant.

Who knows......

i guess people was thinking the same with Prometheus but we never got one...

With Alien Covenant it appears that it would be more action heavy than Prometheus and Alien and even Alien 3....  but maybe not a Aliens...

More like a Alien Resurrection i would assume as far as number of Xeno related threats... but Alien R never had a game either!

While Alien Covenant is trying to be a Horror movie, it appears we would be in for more than a Alien/Alien 3 One Monster hunting down people one by one...   it would appear to stand somewhat between the feeling Alien and Alien 3 gave us... also with a Human Contribution of between those movies... but with more Aliens.

And so it may make for a different take on a Horror Survival Game with more Action than we had in Isolation but far from a Alien Colonial Marines and AVP Game... Action based Shooter.

==================

HOWEVER!!!!

They dont have to make a Game that is 100% Canon and a replication of the Movie....  they can have it based off the movie but not fit in as a direct match to what happened in the movie.

A Perfect Example was the Alien 3 Game... this was Ripley on Fiorina 161 but it was not about her and prisoners being tracked down by a single Alien... Nope she had to take care of a whole host of Xenos as she ran around rescuing Prisoners.

So a game could be based on Alien Covenant but changed the plot a bit to make it into a game where its not the same as what we saw in the movie... Alien 3 movie/game is perfect example.

Alternatively we have Alien Isolation and Alien Colonial Marine games... its disputed and maybe personnel preference to how these fit in Canon...

However... these games where set in a After Math of previous movies.... i.e After Alien and after Aliens....

Alien Covenant could go similar route.. if a game was made....

Saying that PROMETHEUS could have had a game... yes there was not much going on to make one..... but they could have done a AFTERMATH Game..

Company send some mission to discover what happened to Prometheus.... it could start as a Survival Horror/Mystery Game and develop into a Action based game...... more like a Resident Evil... slow build up to more action orientated latter.

Dont forget we have Hammerpedes... they could explore why the Hammerpedes went into Milburns Mouth....   We have the Deacon and can it procreate...

We simply have a Game where a Mission was sent to follow what happened... and nothing was heard from the small crew... and so then the Marines are sent down... or another small crew from the same ship in orbit..

They discover.... the previous rescue crew could have been used as the Deacons Procreation Tools, some could end up Fifield Zombies (or more Xeno DNA versions) we could have Trilobites...

And to end it off we could have some Engineers awaken from other Temples and come to deal with the pesky humans....

So yes PROMETHEUS had the potential for a semi-canon Aftermath Game.....

And i think Alien Covenant could fit the same bill.

A game would be interesting, depending on who develops it. As we have seen with Aliens Colonial Marines, and Alien Isolation, who develops the game makes a big difference. Also helps when the folk making the game care about the property.
