MemberConversationalistMar-14-2017 8:10 PMConsidering how average the second and third films were after the great first film, and how this is other stories in the same universe rather then remaking the original trilogy, I'm not seeing a downside.
In fact if they could remake the second and third films that'd be good too.

AdminAtmanMar-14-2017 8:30 PMI feel like it would be hard to replicate or at least expand upon the existential themes presented in the original films. Sure, none of the sequels could compete with the first one, but they all remained connected on a fundamental level. I would not support films set in the Matrix universe for the purpose of banking on the name alone. It would need to have some serious substance and involve some pretty groundbreaking and profound concepts for me to get behind it.

MemberConversationalistMar-14-2017 8:38 PMIt'd be simple to make a war movie - several even - a la Rogue One, without needing to get into all that monomyth stuff.

AdminAtmanMar-14-2017 8:46 PMExactly, it would be easy and also boring. Rogue One at least addressed the manner in which the plans to the Death Star were stolen.
The only avenue I would be interested to see, is a story detailing the original savior. The first "One" before they were reincarnated. I would like to see how the first Human became aware of their cir***stances and kickstarted the perpetual cycle of destruction and creation. That could be cool, but would require a massive scope. Warner Bros better not cheap out on this.
I suspect they might go even further back, and pull a play out of Terminator's playbook and focus on "The birth of The Matrix". Watch them title it that as well hahaha!

MemberConversationalistMar-14-2017 9:02 PMWhy would it automatically be boring? There's a stack of those hovercrafty things with crews that you could create new stories from.
Star Wars had five series of Clone Wars and now a couple of series of Rebels that tell new stories.

MemberLegendMar-14-2017 10:24 PMI have always imagined the opening moments to a fourth Matrix as thus...
Voice over by Morpheus (Lawrence Fishburne) chronicling the fragile peace between the humans of Zion and the Machines, detailing how many humans have been freed from the Matrix with help from the Machines and how some humans have been allowed to help the Machines repair their tech on the surface. Morpheus' voice over closes, stating that the fragile peace held only until "that" day...
We see the Morpheus and other familiar faces such as Link in the hangar area of Zion as one of the controllers identifies an unknown vessel approaching Zion via the underground tunnels. The vessel isn't transmitting an ID code and hasn't identified itself as a Sentinel, but continues its approach. Alarms are raised and Mechs are loaded, guns trained on the gate in question. As the unknown craft nears the gate a camera identifies it as one of the humans own "hovercrafts". The doors are opened and the hovercraft is ushered, at gunpoint to a nearby docking bay where it lands and powers down. Morpheus slowly approaches the landed craft his face pale and followed by a small gathering, behind him Kid shouts "It's the Logos!"
On cue the Logos' boarding ramp lowers with a hiss, bright light shining from within as a hooded and cloaked figure walks down towards the gathering crowd, all of which fall to the ground in reverence, except for Morpheus whose face is perplexed beyond belief. The hooded, cloaked figure the lowers his hood revealing their identity as Neo (Keanu Reeves) who looks Morpheus warmly in the eye before the two hug like old friends.
