The cinematic universe is a much more popular concept than it was 10 or so years ago. When the first Iron Man movie was released, no one would have anticipated that the MCU would expand and become the worldwide conglomerate that it currently is. This is reflected as well in the likes of the DCEU. The popularity and success of these universes led to the development of others like the Dark Universe and the MonsterVerse.
The latter cinematic universes, specifically the MonsterVerse, have not been as successful, on paper, as their comic book predecessors. Iconic Figures Inspire Spin-Off Games
The figures that have been involved in the MonsterVerse are already incredibly well-known and popular. The likes of Leafwing, MUTO, Skullcrawler, and Mother Longlegs were already known by many. On top of that, you have the iconic figures that are Godzilla and King Kong. These resonate with audiences given they are already well-known and as such, the rise of the MonsterVerse has inspired spin-off games involving such characters.

The movies sold quite well when they were at the cinema (albeit maybe not as well as studios would have liked) but when these sales are paired with what was sold in merch, the damage isn’t as bad as some people make out it is.

The MonsterVerse is Doing Better Than You Think
When you compare the success of the MonsterVerse to its counterparts such as the DCEU and the MCU, you may well think that it is not doing very well. It is worth noting though that the MonsterVerse is doing a lot better than people think. Ticket sales alone are turning over a profit; however, combined with the likes of money made from games that use the image of these monsters, as well as merchandise sales, the MonsterVerse is a success in its own right.
