Terminator Genisys sequel terminated!

Though there are some audiences that enjoyed the movie's action and welcomed Arnold Schwarzenegger's return, as evidenced by the movies moderate box office takings the truth is that 2015's Terminator Genisys was a failure. Critically panned as the worst movie of the franchise the movie, which was intended to reboot the series ending up being the final nail in the franchise's coffin, effectively killing off the series.

Previously Paramount Pictures and Skydance Productions had removed a planned sequel to Terminator Genisys from this year's release schedule while announcing they were looking hard into the viability of the series following the low critical opinion the movie had garnered. Originally scheduled for May 19th, 2017 release, the sequel listed as "Terminator 3" was rescheduled for a June 29th, 2018 release.

Recently it was reported that creator James Cameron (pictured above), whom also wrote and directed the first two, critically acclaimed installments, is planning on returning to the series as a consultant, with Deadpool director Tim Miller in talks to helm a reboot/conclusion of the franchise. This news coincides with the ever-approaching deadline that will see the franchises production rights return to Cameron in 2019 (he sold them for $1 to ex-wife Gale Anne Hurd in 1984).

New reports, courtesy of The Wrap, suggests that Cameron will indeed return to the series with Paramount Pictures having removed "Terminator 3" once again from their schedule for 2018. Speculation would suggest that the planned reboot/conclusion could hit theaters by 2019/2020. Hopefully, it will be the first installment in a Future War trilogy, retelling events of the series from a fresh perspective, in a similar vein to 20th Century Fox's recent Planet of the Apes revival series.

I actually like the concept behind Terminator Genisys, but it could and should be better executed. But still I would like to see direct sequel to Terminator Genisys and see shape-shifting Arnold and Emilie Clarke who was great as Sarah Connor.

Time travel movies are a tough nut to crack...they end up more like bad Saturday Night Live skits.

I wish James Cameron luck.

1 and 2 should be considered as canon.

The others are just a plain mess.
