With many movie theatres charging excessively high prices for their tickets and concessions, and with a plethora of movie sequels, prequels, reboots, and shared universes failing to engage movie audiences, critics and fans it is unsurprising, especially with the overwhelming choice of streaming and catch-up media platform, that the small screen has become for many their preferred choice for their entertainment wants. In years past production quality differed greatly between the big and small screen, but with many of today's small screen success stories, one could argue that the trend has switched with many shows like Game of Thrones, The Expanse, and The Walking Dead looking as good, if not better than their big screen contemporaries.
This switch from "a night out at the theaters" to "binge-watching the latest trending series" has been welcomed by many of those in Hollywood, with many leading stars also making the move to the small screen. The growing popularity of small screen entertainment has had its effects on the big screen too, with many small screen stars landing roles in some of the most anticipated upcoming movies, such as some of the cast from Stranger Things, the hit science-fiction horror serial set in the '80's - David Harbour will appear in the title role of the new Hellboy reboot, Finn Wolfhard (Mike) appeared in 2017's It and will return in its forthcoming sequel It: Chapter 2, and Millie Bobby Brown will star in the forthcoming Godzilla 2: King of the Monsters. Yet despite their fledgling success as leading Hollywood movie actors, the cast seems aware of their heritage and fanbase, having returned for the long-awaited third season of Stranger Things...
Coming to Netflix from July 4th the third season of Stranger Things will see a slightly older main cast struggling to navigate the minefield of adolescence, while also having to contend with more horrors from the nightmarish parallel world known as the "Upside-Down".
Set in the summer of 1985 Stranger Things season three will consist of eight episodes which will see all of the main cast reprising their roles, joined by guest stars Jake Busey (Starships Troopers, The Predator) and Cary Elwes (Twister, Robin Hood: Men in Tights).
