Fans knew Lucasfilm were cooking up a new Star Wars game announcement and today, it was finally revealed – all that anticipation was for – a digital card game... To the extreme disappointment of those hoping for a proper new Star Wars game, this new card game won't even be in physical format – it's going to be a digital gambling style card game.
Earlier today, the official Star Wars channel debuted the following release:

We are excited to announce we are working with Zero36 Studio and CCG Lab to develop a brand-new digital collectible card game where players can battle across the Star Wars galaxy.
Stay tuned for future updates.
The comments sections are riddled with unhappy fan reactions. Top comments and majority of feedback expressed disappointment for the fact the announcement wasn't for a Star Wars: Battlefield 3, or a Knights of the Old Republic remake – which apparently was in development at one point.

Fans are wondering if the VP of Lucasfilm Games Douglas Reilly is still the right man for the job. Since he took his position in 2012, there haven't really been any solid Star Wars games that resonated with the overall fan base as a whole the way Star Wars games used to. The mobile game Galaxy of Heroes seems to be the only game the company continues to actively invest in, while console entries have taken a backseat. With such an expansive universe to explore and so many existing titles deserving of a modern remaster or sequel, a card game was the last thing anyone was expecting – or hoping for.
Are Lucasfilm out of touch with their fan base? Or are the fans overreacting? Let us know your thoughts on the announcement in the comments below!
